Chapter 105: The Variseth Fighting Technique
I managed to make my way out of the building without getting stopped by Selene or the other strange family. It didn’t take long for us to make our way back to the manor.
Alarion and Sylas seemed to be chatting a bit about the meeting but it wasn’t anything that I could hear clearly.
"I hope you are ready to begin. We have a lot to cover." Alarion speaks up while looking back at me.
"I’m definitely ready to learn how to fight properly." I respond with confidence.
I wasn’t going to waste a chance to learn how to fight properly since someone was willing to teach me how to do it. I’ll make sure that his efforts aren’t a waste of time since he doesn’t have to do this.
"Good. We’ll be heading to the room you fought Sylas in." Alarion says as we enter the manor.
I followed him to the room where I fought against Sylas and it was cleaned up, almost like we never fought there in the first place. It was insane to see the place looking brand new.
"I’ll be teaching you the Variseth Lunar Arts. It might not have certain benefits since you don’t possess our blood but it’ll be a good fighting style to use." Alarion says with a bit of excitement in his voice.
A fighting style like theirs could be a lot better than how I’ve been going about my fights in the recent events. I mostly winged it when it came to the battles, just barely managing to dodge some of the attacks.
If this can help me with getting an advantage in the fights, then I’ll happily utilize it to the max.
"Just come at me as if I was an enemy." Alarion instructs.
He begins to shift into the stance of the Lunar arts. Every part of his movement felt as if it was rehearsed a thousand times, one leg anchored behind him while the other was placed in front of him at an angle.
His forward hand hovered in the air, fingers half-curled, not quite a fist but not quite open either. Almost like a predators claw waiting to strike.
The other hand was posed at his chest, open. It was ready for whatever attack that would come. Alarion was also complete still, almost as if he had just become a statue.
Seems you are going to be in for quite a lesson in fighting.
At least I’ll be learning how to properly fight instead of just relying on my power to carry me through everything. It might even save me some of the damage that I took repeatedly throughout previous fights.
Well, don’t keep him waiting.
I lunged forward while reeling my fist back, preparing to swing it towards him. The moment I thought it would connect he pushed it away with ease.
Swing!! Wiff! Every punch I threw was countered by him without fail. Pushing my fist to the side with each swing that I tossed his way.
It didn’t matter if I threw multiple punches towards him because he’d dodge or counter them as if it was nothing.
"Our family wanted to make a stance that was versatile. This form focuses on counters for the most part, which is exactly why you haven’t hit me yet." Alarion Explains after I stop for a moment.
"Wouldn’t it be suicidal to use that against multiple people or someone who focuses on range?" I ask curiously before waiting for his answer.
"Precisely why I said form. There is multiple forms. It’ll definitely be interesting to see if you can master any of them." Alarion teases lightly as he gets back into the stance.
Lunar arts is really going to be a pain in the ass to deal with but I still can’t understand why it would be called that. Then again, the moon feels as if it stares into the courtyard at night.
"I’m starting to wonder how the fight would’ve been if it was me against you from the beginning." I reply with a bit of a joking tone as I raise my fists.
"A total loss. You lack the proper mindset for a fight against me. Sylas would’ve won if he stopped underestimating you and used our fighting technique." Alarion speaks with more of a serious tone, keeping a bit of a calm demeanor as well.
I was kind of wondering how Sylas didn’t win that fight if the stance was this strong to begin with. In reality I should’ve lost the moment we fought against each other but he was too focused on the thrill of the fight.
He also kept thinking that my power wasn’t enough to beat him in a fight which was another reason I won.
Alarion gestures for me to come again. This time I push myself off the ground with a bit of my power to give me more speed.
My body was already swinging towards him before I felt his palm hit my chest in an instant while his other hand moved my fist away. "My nullification makes me an even deadlier opponent for you. This is exactly why I’ll be a great teacher for you." Alarion says before pushing me back with a bit of force.
I felt like I got the wind knocked out of me as his hand sent a shockwave through me. I was now a couple of feet away from him and it felt like my power was just shut off briefly.
Nullification is such a powerful ability to be blessed with. To think that someone like him would be given such a gift is insane.
Is nullification really that rare to get?
Extremely. He was given the talent which is another reason why he deserves to be an SS ranked hunter.
I guess that just means that it is even better for me to learn from him. This will help me understand how deadly fights can be if I ever encounter someone else capable of doing that.
