Chapter 98: The Selvaris Family (1)
I don’t know what awaits me today since yesterday was extremely chaotic with everything that happened. The fight against the reaper was intense.
Aria really made a difference in that fight so I couldn’t be luckier to have her by my side. She will definitely fit right in with our group after we leave Elyndra.
Having an SS rank like her will just add to the power we have at our disposal.
A light knock can be heard at the bedroom door, probably Sylas or Alarion coming to check on everything. I slowly made my way out of bed while trying not to wake anyone else up yet.
My body still felt pretty worn out after yesterday but that doesn’t change what needs to be done.
I open the door to Alarion standing there with a small smile across his face, he didn’t seem to be in a bad mood. "The Selvaris family would like to meet you, apparently you impressed them yesterday." Alarion says quietly while noticing the others were still asleep.
"Aria helped in that fight though. Shouldn’t she also be present for this?" I ask with a bit of curiosity while cracking my neck.
"They’ve met here before. You on the other hand, you are brand new." Alarion responds without wasting a second.
I step out of the room and close the door.
"Who exactly am I meeting?" I ask while looking down at my clothes.I didn’t think to change into something else before leaving my room... Shit. It isn’t the end of the world but it probably would make a better impression if I dressed a bit nicer.
Honestly it doesn’t really matter since I won’t be focusing on these families once I leave here anyway. Well, if Aria is coming with us then I’ll have to deal with Variseth again at some point.
"You’ll be meeting with Raizen to start, he is one of the oldest son’s of the family. He handles the behind the scene stuff." Alarion answers while tying his hair back.
"I’ll just assume that you’ll tell them where I went. I’m sure this Raizen won’t be too bad to talk with." I say calmly while we walk.
"Raizen isn’t much of a talker but he’ll probably ask you about your power. Don’t tell him much." Alarion advises with a bit of caution in his voice.
I don’t necessarily advertise what my power is or what it is capable of but I have a feeling that Alarion has an idea. He’s seen enough by now to make some logical guesses about it.
His guess might not entirely be spot on either since nothing has been seen like this before. At least as far as I’m aware of.
Hunters would’ve spread that like wild fire by now if it was something someone had the capability of using. All the guilds would also be after a hunter like that, if they were proven to be a human still.
There’s still the lingering fear of them wanting to assume I’m just some monster at the end of the day. So that would also go for anyone else who has it.
"I didn’t really plan on saying anything to them about it." I reply while keeping a calm tone.
"At least you are smart. People don’t always think about those things and then they end up with a target on their head." Alarion says with a bit of relief in his voice.
The conversation died down after that for the last bit of the walk before we reach the gate to leave the manor. He gives me a small wave before walking back towards the manor.
I didn’t really have time to think about it much since there was already someone standing ahead of me, waiting. A man wearing a crimson red coat with a high collar, fitted combat gear visible underneath, some sort of black leather, accents of silver throughout the coat, fingerless gloves, and black boots.
His outfit was what caught my attention first but it’s probably important to remember his actual look too. Long black hair curtained his face, veiling expression in shadow until the light caught his eyes. A bit of a small glow to them but they were red like mine.
So this man is Raizen Selvaris. It seems that he’ll be the first Selvaris I meet... And the first one I get to know. But Alarion said he’s not much of a talker so I don’t know how this will go.
"Rokuro I assume? Follow me." He speaks without wasting a second. His words felt precise.
I guess there won’t be very much conversation to start with, not that I mind it right now. I’ve been talking a lot more than usual lately and it’s not just in my head for once.
Eventually I found myself standing in front of a more gothic like manor than the Variseth family. Everything feels like the complete opposite with what I thought about them so far.
The manor itself reeks of something you’d see in a horror movie or that you’d read about in some horror novel. Even the windows were darkened with some black panes to match the aesthetic.
"My sister will talk more with you about everything." Raizen says as he opens the gate.
"Got it. I suppose I’ll just keep my comments to myself until then." I reply while following behind him.
He doesn’t say anything back as he leads me towards the main door of the manor. It didn’t necessarily feel off here but it definitely makes me wonder what this family does for this city.
How do they keep such an image when they look like some evil family plotting against everyone. Creeeek!
The door opens up to a giant open area with two sets of staircases heading to the second floor and potentially what looks like a third floor.
"Welcome to our home!" A woman’s voice echoes loudly off the walls with a bit of excitement.
