Half a Brick
Chapter 20 Heavenly Masters Manor
"What way?" I asked patiently.
"You're so dumb. When you challenge Qin Tianming, add a condition: that he helps you take care of us scum. You can't do anything to us, but the Heavenly Masters' Mansion can. With their connections to the government, as long as the Heavenly Masters' Mansion speaks up, would we dare to act recklessly? We're not afraid of small bosses like you, but if government officials come, would we dare to mess around? Aren't we afraid of being arrested?" The old man shook his head knowingly.
The old man's face really deserved a beating, but what he said made sense. Qin Tianming could indeed handle these scoundrels. If I couldn't find the mastermind behind this in a short time, directly dealing with Qin Tianming would be a good solution. However, being led by the nose like this felt terrible.
I didn't make things difficult for the old man and let him leave. The mastermind must know that these scoundrels couldn't keep their mouths shut. As long as I offered good enough conditions, or if I were fierce enough, they would definitely choose to betray him. Therefore, the mastermind would never show his face in front of them. There must be many intermediaries involved. The chances of me finding the mastermind through the old man were practically zero.
After the old man left, I waved my hand to disperse the neighbors who were watching the commotion. The show was over, and they should go back to mind their shops.
The neighbors chased after me, asking if I was really going to challenge Qin Tianming.
I just told them, "Don't worry. Whether I challenge Qin Tianming or not, I won't let those scoundrels run wild on Funeral Street."
Because of my consistent reputation and responsibility, the old neighbors didn't block my door for too long and soon dispersed.
I went back to my shop and immediately called Bai Tingting, asking if she had hired a bunch of scoundrels to disgust me. Miss Fox Eight had only taken this one job recently, and I highly suspected that Bai Tingting wanted to get her face and legs back from her.
As soon as Bai Tingting answered my call, she started cursing non-stop, using almost every swear word she had ever heard in her twenty-plus years. But when she heard me mention getting her legs and face back, she suddenly stopped and became extremely excited, like a person in the dark suddenly seeing a glimmer of light.
"What did you just say? Wan Qian, say it again. Miss Eight can return my face and legs? How? What are your conditions? Wan Qian, tell me, hurry up and tell me! As long as you can give me back my face and my legs, I'll give you whatever money you want. I'm the chairman of the Bai Group now, I have plenty of money. I just beg you to give me back my legs and face. I don't want to be like this, I don't want to..." Before she could finish speaking, Bai Tingting started sobbing, crying so desperately and helplessly that I felt a little sorry for her.
"If only you had known this earlier, why did you do what you did? The price you paid cannot be recovered. Don't delude yourself. You should have already asked the doctors. Your face and legs cannot be restored. Surely, you don't doubt the doctors, do you?" After saying that, I hung up the phone.
Bai Tingting didn't seem to be acting. She didn't understand Yin-Yang techniques and probably didn't know about reversing cause and effect. If it wasn't her, who else could it be? Why did she specifically ask for the Eight-Tailed Fox? Could it be related to Miss Eight showing her true form today?
I stood in front of Miss Eight's memorial tablet for a long time, but I still had no clue. It seemed that I had no choice but to challenge the unlucky Qin Tianming.
You have to wonder, who did Qin Tianming offend? He just came to Huacheng, and he's going to be challenged by me?
But then again, why couldn't it be Qin Tianming who offended someone? Why did they specifically ask me to challenge him, and not someone else? I can't just consider my side of the situation. It's possible that this genius Feng Shui teenager is too arrogant, and someone specifically found me to knock him down a peg.
But if that's the case, it would be even harder to find the mastermind. How would I know who Qin Tianming has offended? I should meet him first.
I searched online for information about Qin Tianming coming to Huacheng and found that he was still thousands of miles away attending an event. He would be flying to Huacheng tomorrow and would stay there for a while, similar to an assignment to gain experience. In the next year or two, he would be stationed in Huacheng, managing the entire Feng Shui industry in the Huacheng area.
But this had nothing to do with me. Although I knew a little about Feng Shui, I had never even touched a Luo Pan (geomantic compass). We were not even from the same system, the difference was even greater than that between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Asking me to challenge Qin Tianming, honestly, I didn't even know what to challenge him with. Competing with him in Feng Shui? We didn't learn the same theories, I was worried that neither of us would understand what the other was saying.
But if not Feng Shui, then what? I couldn't just go and fight him, could I?
Forget it, no more pointless speculation. I should go out for a walk. I drove straight to the Heavenly Masters' Mansion.
It was a magnificent, ancient-style courtyard in the suburbs. No wonder they could deal with government officials. They were different from wild practitioners like us, everything about them seemed so proper. I had only circled the Heavenly Masters' Mansion a few times when they stopped me for questioning.
"What are you doing?" A middle-aged Daoist with a face full of橫肉(hengrou, bulging flesh) appeared beside my car, flicking his horsetail whisk, almost hitting my face.
"Passing by."
"Bullshit! You've been circling the Heavenly Masters' Mansion a few times now. Is that how you pass by?" The middle-aged Daoist glared.
I said, "I'm not familiar with the roads, I circled a few times, is that not allowed?"
"Normally it would be, but not today. You're acting suspiciously. Who knows if you're here to sabotage tomorrow's welcoming ceremony? If you offend Young Master Qin, who will take responsibility? Get out of the car, we need to search you!" The Daoist kicked my car door violently, but he didn't kick the right spot and hurt his own foot. His expression was extremely ugly.
I held back my laughter and asked, "What if I don't get out?"
"If you don't get out, I'll make sure you can't leave!"
As he spoke, the Daoist waved his horsetail whisk several times, and a row of junior Daoists immediately came over and surrounded my car.
The junior Daoists were synchronized and well-trained. Anyone who didn't know better would think that this middle-aged Daoist had a lot of people under his command, but I could tell at a glance that they weren't people at all, just paper figures manipulated by the middle-aged Daoist with術法(shufa, spells).
Daring to show off this petty trick in front of me, today is your unlucky day.
I didn't even need to perform a hand seal. I just glanced at the paper figures, and they immediately defected, knocked the middle-aged Daoist down, and ran away with him.
I stepped on the gas, planning to leave, but a sports car that had been parked behind me suddenly started and sped ahead of me, forcing me to stop.
"Shopkeeper Wan, you're here but you don't come in for a visit, you're being too distant." A handsome young man in the sports car leaned out and slowly took off his sunglasses.
Ding Kan.
