Chapter 22 The Attack

Bai Ye's spirits immediately lifted. Using a high-powered telescope, he kept his eyes fixed on the three vehicles.

Then…

As the first vehicle passed the spot where Bai Ye had discarded the Frost Sword…

"Control sword!"

With a flicker of Bai Ye's thoughts, the moment the first vehicle drove over the Frost Sword, the sword transformed into a streak of silver light, piercing the vehicle's tires.

The next instant, a piercing screech of tires against the ground erupted. The driver inside was startled, then frantically spun the steering wheel, and…

BANG!

The second vehicle, trailing behind, collided with the first. The blade on the front of the second vehicle directly plunged into the cargo box of the pickup truck.

Fortunately, the speed of the vehicles wasn't high, so they didn't overturn. Both vehicles slid forward four or five meters before coming to a halt. The third vehicle, however, managed to brake in time and avoided a collision.

A moment later, Bai Ye saw several people emerge from the vehicles. Arguments broke out. After all, if that blade had shifted slightly and pierced the car body, it would have been a bloody mess.

In fact, Bai Ye had hoped for precisely that. He thought it would be good to take down at least one vehicle.

However, the current outcome was acceptable; at least the vehicles had been forced to stop.

Bai Ye silently switched his Aug rifle to burst fire mode, then slowly adjusted his aim, targeting a man's head.

"See you next time…" Bai Ye muttered, caressing the trigger. "No, there won't be a next time."

BANG!

Bai Ye pulled the trigger. Through the scope, the man's head instantly erupted in a spray of blood, and he fell to the ground without warning.

The surrounding crowd froze in shock. Just then…

BANG!

A second shot rang out, followed by a scream of pain. A man clutched his arm, staggering backward, crimson blood flowing freely from between his fingers.

"Someone's attacking!"

"Weapons, get the weapons!"

"Use the cars as cover, quickly, move!"

The road riders finally snapped back to reality, scrambling towards their vehicles. They retrieved weapons from inside their cars, and then…

BANG!

The gunshots continued. This time, Bai Ye didn't miss. He accurately hit another man in the head, leaving a bloody hole in his forehead.

The man's eyes widened. His back pressed against the car, he slowly slid to the ground, leaving a trail of blood along the vehicle.

"Over there, over there…"

The remaining road riders finally located Bai Ye's position. As one of them shouted, the others drew their firearms from their vehicles and opened fire in Bai Ye's direction.

It had to be said, the road riders looked quite ferocious as they roared and returned fire.

However, Bai Ye was grateful for their ferocity.

Although he had forced the vehicles to stop, only the first one was truly damaged. The others could have simply driven their remaining two vehicles around the desert flanking the road and continued their journey.

But the lawless state under the apocalypse had ignited the ferocity within people. This group of road riders might have felt fear, retreated, or felt guilt initially, but after continuous plunder and killing, those emotions had long since vanished.

After being attacked, their first thought was to retaliate and kill the attacker.

This was excellent!

If they hadn't done so, but instead fled, how would Bai Ye have completed his mission?

"Frost!" Bai Ye commanded with a thought. "Control sword."

The Frost Sword, hidden beneath the vehicle, suddenly transformed into a silver light, shooting out from under the car and flashing past the road riders' feet.

"Ah, my leg!"

"It hurts, it hurts so much!"

Several road riders instantly collapsed, clutching their ankles and wailing.

Seizing this opportunity, Bai Ye scrambled to his feet, switched his Aug rifle to full auto, and unleashed a volley towards the front.

Rattata, rattata, rattata…

Gunfire erupted, bullets flying relentlessly forward, striking the road riders' bodies, instantly drawing blood, and hitting the vehicles behind, emitting metallic clangs and sparks.

When the magazine was empty, Bai Ye loaded a grenade into his grenade launcher and then…

RUMBLE!

An explosion boomed.

Layer upon layer of fire mixed with black smoke erupted. The immense heat wave caused the surrounding dry grass to sway.

As for the road riders, they were blown away by the blast. Some fell silent immediately, while others lay on the ground, moaning in agony.

Bai Ye walked onto the road, rifle in hand, looking at the groaning road riders on the ground. He silently reloaded his magazine, then…

Aim, shoot, next…

Aim, shoot, next…

Bai Ye walked on, methodically shooting down any surviving road riders before heading towards the vehicles, intending to search for the supplies they had plundered.

Just then…

"Die, you bastard!"

An enraged roar sounded. Bai Ye turned his head to look.

One road rider had managed to hide beneath a vehicle, avoiding the explosion. Emerging from underneath, he immediately scrambled onto the roof and grabbed a Gatling gun mounted there.

The next instant, with a roar from the attacker, the Gatling gun began to spin, its muzzle spewing fire.

Bai Ye's pupils contracted. The moment the attacker opened fire…

"Yin Yang Reversal!"

Bai Ye took a sudden step forward, spreading his arms in a Tai Chi stance. Then, with his arms drawing circles, a nearly visible vortex of energy appeared around Bai Ye as he continuously drew circles with his hands.

Rattata, rattata, rattata…

The Gatling gun's fire was incredibly fierce. As the barrel spun, the bullets fired seemed like rain, but…

The moment the bullets touched the vortex, a bizarre phenomenon occurred.

The bullets seemed to freeze in time, floating obediently in the air, then following the flow of the vortex, they began to circle around Bai Ye's body.

The road rider's expression was priceless. From initial rage, it turned to disbelief, then from disbelief to a stunned silence, and finally from silence to sheer terror. His hands, gripping the Gatling gun, involuntarily loosened their hold.

And in that instant…

Bai Ye suddenly lunged forward, thrusting a palm forward.

With a bang!

The vortex swirling around Bai Ye suddenly exploded. As the vortex shattered, the bullets encased within it shot forward.

However…

This time, the bullets weren't directed at Bai Ye. Instead, they hurtled directly towards the road rider!
