Chapter 18 Survivor?

Bai Ye stepped over the shattered glass and slowly walked into the supermarket.

Beside the counter, a cash register had fallen to the ground, its drawer sprung open, with some coins scattered around.

The countertop was a mess, with many items strewn about. Bai Ye casually picked up a lollipop, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth. It tasted fine, so it probably wasn't spoiled.

Continuing forward, Bai Ye reached a row of shelves and, after a glance, kept walking towards the front.

On those shelves were milk, yogurt, and fermented milk products. These items had a short shelf life, so he knew they were likely inedible without even looking.

What Bai Ye wanted were compressed biscuits and mineral water. Liquor would suffice if he couldn't find anything else, as long as it had a long shelf life.

As Bai Ye mused, he walked towards the next shelf. Before he could examine the items, the shelf suddenly tilted and fell towards him.

Bai Ye instinctively raised his arms to brace against the falling shelf, and the items on it instantly scattered across the floor.

Then…

With a clang!

Bai Ye felt something step on the shelf, causing its weight to suddenly increase, forcing him to take half a step back.

Without hesitation, Bai Ye, with one hand supporting the shelf, raised his rifle with the other and pulled the trigger.

*Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang…*

As flames spewed from the muzzle, bullets swept across the shelf. Immediately after, Bai Ye saw a figure leap down from the shelf and run towards the side.

"Stop!"

Bai Ye let out a low growl, forcefully pushed away the shelf, and continued to shoot, but the figure was extremely fast. It weaved through the shelves in the darkness, and with a swift movement, disappeared without a trace.

Bai Ye frowned, raising his rifle in front of him, level with his shoulder, and slowly paced forward. But at this moment…

A figure emerged from behind the collapsed shelf, holding a climbing rope. It circled around to Bai Ye's back, suddenly attacked, and wrapped the rope around Bai Ye's throat, pulling him forcefully backward.

Bai Ye, caught off guard, was pulled to the ground. He looked up and saw a man behind him, his clothes filthy, with a large beard, disheveled hair, and his face covered in thumb-sized growths.

"Native?"

Natives referred to those who lived in the world battlefield, not those selected from various worlds. Some of them were friendly, some harbored malice, some could help you, and some wanted to kill you. Occasionally, one could even receive tasks from natives and gain benefits upon successful completion.

As for the guy in front of him…

Bai Ye naturally categorized him as someone who wanted to kill him.

*Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang…*

The moment the man tightened the rope and dragged him, Bai Ye unhesitatingly turned the muzzle of his gun towards him and pulled the trigger.

At such close range, he could easily hit the target without needing to aim.

As bullets struck, bullet holes appeared on the man's body, and blood flowed continuously.

However, after being hit seven or eight times, the man didn't fall. Instead, he dropped the rope and turned to flee to the side.

Bai Ye drew his combat knife and cut the rope from his neck, wondering, "Zombie?"

Only zombies were immune to bullets, but zombies couldn't possess such speed and agility. Moreover, in the brief moment their eyes met, Bai Ye saw a gritting expression on the man's face, and the pain from being hit by bullets. Zombies, on the other hand, had a limited range of expressions; in fact, they had no expressions at all, only roars or groans.

While Bai Ye was thinking, a row of shelves to the side collapsed like dominoes, directly smashing towards Bai Ye.

Without any preamble, Bai Ye kicked out forcefully, shoving the shelf back. Immediately after, two figures flashed out from behind the shelf.

"Ning Shuang, Sword Control!"

The Ning Shuang sword, suspended beside Bai Ye, transformed into a silver light and shot forward.

With a *thump*!

The Ning Shuang sword caught up to one person, pierced through his body, and then pinned him to the wall.

Bai Ye quickly moved forward, ejected the empty magazine, loaded a new one, and pulled the trigger again.

Bullets continuously streamed out, hitting the opponent's back. The person's body twitched, blood dripped, and soon, he became silent.

His companion, showing no intention of rescuing him, simply smashed through the window and quickly fled the supermarket, running towards the adjacent restaurant.

Bai Ye didn't rush to pursue. Instead, he first went to the person pinned to the wall by the Ning Shuang sword. He grabbed the person's hair, tilted their head back, and felt for a breath.

Dead?

Zombies couldn't be killed without a headshot!

So, this guy wasn't immune to gunfire, but his body was terrifyingly strong, and a few shots just wouldn't kill him?

Bai Ye showed a look of realization, understanding the origin of these individuals.

These guys were indeed survivors of the post-apocalyptic ruins, but they had mutated and not died after being infected with the T-virus.

This was a low-probability event, but it was indeed possible, similar to the principle of strengthening the body by injecting the T-virus and then injecting a vaccine.

However, what was the reason these people used the radio to lure people here?

Bai Ye casually pulled the Ning Shuang sword from the person's body, then stepped over the shattered floor-to-ceiling window and walked towards the restaurant on the side.

"This is Ambrose Gas Station…"

As Bai Ye reached the entrance, he heard the voice again.

Entering the restaurant, he saw a radio on a table to the side, continuously playing that message.

Then, Bai Ye looked up at the restaurant, and his brow furrowed.

There was a strong smell of blood in the restaurant, and on the ground around him, Bai Ye also saw some fragmented bones, including a complete leg bone. It was human.

Taking a deep breath, Bai Ye slowly walked around the tables and moved forward.

But at this moment…

From behind an upright table, two figures suddenly leaped out, holding a cloth bag. They swung it towards Bai Ye, and a large cloud of white powder drifted towards him.

Bai Ye quickly shielded his eyes and then pulled the trigger.

With his vision obstructed, Bai Ye couldn't confirm the opponents' positions, so he could only slowly shift his gun barrel and sweep it horizontally, preventing them from getting close.

But…

Someone was behind Bai Ye as well!

A woman pushed aside the table she was using for cover, sprang out from behind Bai Ye, and slammed into his back, knocking him to the ground. Then, like a fierce wolf, she pounced on Bai Ye and began to choke him!
