Chapter 196 The Penguin Man

Bai Ye glanced at the corpse, then at the burning Bureau of Investigation.

This was directly across the street from the Bureau of Investigation's entrance, yet apart from people screaming and scattering away from Bai Ye, no one stepped forward to stop him. Not even a single agent appeared.

Although Bai Ye knew very well that it was because the Bureau of Investigation was in chaos after the explosion, everyone was swamped and had no time for anything else.

Still, Bai Ye found it ironic.

This was what could truly be called a City of Sin!

Bai Ye grinned, then walked forward, disappearing quickly at the street corner.

By blowing up the Bureau of Investigation, Bai Ye earned 220 points of Sin Value. After taking down Yamagami Taisan, Bai Ye gained another 10 points of Sin Value.

It didn't seem like much, but killing a native of the City of Sin on the street would only yield 1 point of Sin Value. Compared to that, Yamagami Taisan was quite valuable.

Moreover, Yamagami Taisan likely had no significant achievements, or more directly, his Order Value wasn't high.

The Sin Faction and the Order Faction…

It was clear that the two major factions had to fight each other in the City of Sin. Those from the Sin Faction who killed people from the Order Faction could obtain Sin Value, while those from the Order Faction who killed people from the Sin Faction would naturally gain Order Value.

As for the value obtained, it would certainly be determined by one's own Sin Value or Order Value.

For example, Bai Ye had 220 points of Sin Value. If Yamagami Taisan had managed to kill Bai Ye, although he wouldn't be able to convert the full 220 points of Sin Value into his own Order Value, the Order Value he received would certainly not be a mere 10 points.

However, Bai Ye didn't care much. It was just a casual killing of a Chosen One from the Order Faction. 10 points of Sin Value was fine; he wasn't picky.

Screech!

As Bai Ye was contemplating, a sharp tire screeching sound suddenly came from the side, followed by several cars stopping beside Bai Ye. Two of the cars even drove onto the pedestrian crossing, one in front and one behind, blocking Bai Ye's path forward and backward.

The car doors opened, and a group of burly men in black suits stepped out.

One of the burly men approached the middle car and opened the door.

A short man emerged from the car, wearing a top hat and a tailcoat, a piece of ancient monocle on his face, and a cigar in his mouth.

"Hello, I am Oswald, or you can call me the Penguin." The Penguin exhaled a smoke ring, chuckling sinisterly, "I heard my child was taken care of by you?"

"Yes, that's correct." Bai Ye looked down at the Penguin and asked, "Is there a problem?"

The burly man beside the Penguin looked displeased and reached out to grab Bai Ye's shoulder, saying, "Who do you think you're talking to? Or do you know who rules the nights in the City of Sin…"

Before the burly man could finish speaking, his eyes widened, his pupils contracting frantically. Due to the pain, his entire body began to tremble, and he slowly looked down…

A bright red stain bloomed on his abdomen!

Bai Ye held a short knife in his hand, which he had cleanly plunged into the burly man's abdomen.

*Plop!*

Bai Ye yanked the knife out.

As the knife was pulled out, it spun around Bai Ye's wrist and landed back in his hand, now held in a reverse grip.

Then…

Bai Ye raised his hand, and the famous sword "Bloodthirst" transformed into a silver streak, sweeping across the burly man's neck, severing his throat.

*Thump!*

The burly man fell to the ground, his eyes wide open in a death stare.

The surrounding men in suits were shocked. They instantly pulled open their jackets, drew their pistols, and aimed them at Bai Ye's head.

Bai Ye remained unfazed, continuing to look down at the Penguin and saying, "One of the Four Great Families of the City of Sin, the King of the Night, one of the largest crime syndicates in the City of Sin. Am I right, Mr. Penguin!"

The Penguin chuckled, "It seems you've heard of me."

"Only heard of you. We are not the same kind of people." Bai Ye gestured with his finger, "Your class is a bit low."

As soon as Bai Ye finished speaking, the surrounding pistols moved closer to him, and two even pressed against Bai Ye's temples.

Bai Ye glanced sideways, then said to the Penguin, "Do you believe I can kill them all before they even fire?"

The Penguin raised his hand, signaling his men to lower their guns, and said, "I know you're strong, and a lunatic. But I've seen plenty of madmen. There was a fellow who escaped from Arkham Asylum, and he was scarier than you. So, you can't scare me."

As the Penguin spoke, he beckoned.

Someone immediately stepped forward, producing a new cigar and handing it to the Penguin.

"Furthermore, you seem to have misunderstood me." The Penguin lit his cigar and said, "I'm not here to cause trouble. On the contrary, I'm here to help you get rich."

Bai Ye asked, "Get rich?"

The Penguin replied, "Help me rob a bank. Afterward, all the money we steal will be yours."

Bai Ye looked puzzled, "I help you rob a bank? And the money is mine? Then what's in it for you?"

"I only want one thing from the bank vault," the Penguin exhaled a smoke ring, "two laser-engraved plates!"

As he spoke, the Penguin took out a banknote and showed it to Bai Ye.

"Understand?" the Penguin asked.

Bai Ye chuckled, "Isn't that just counterfeit money!"

The Penguin said, "This is no ordinary counterfeit money, because those two laser-engraved plates are the real deal."

"The problem is, why should I help you?" Bai Ye asked. "There's no need for us to cooperate. I can rob a bank myself. The money and the plates would all be mine."

The Penguin said, "Do you plan on running around town with the cash you steal? Do you know if those bills have been marked? Are you sure you can spend it? If we cooperate, I can help you turn the money into bank cards, and you can spend it as you please. The plates can be considered your reward, isn't that good?"

Bai Ye sneered. The Penguin was indeed a shrewd businessman, with the contributions and rewards clearly unbalanced. However…

"You have received a hidden quest."

"Help the Penguin obtain the laser printing plates from the Lex Bank vault. Quest Reward: 3,000,000 x 1, Sin Value x 100, Carrier Pigeon x 1."

Bai Ye felt that the Penguin was treating him like an idiot, clearly wanting his help to steal the laser plates without offering any substantial benefits.

Of course, Bai Ye wouldn't care if the Penguin really gave him money. What did he need the City of Sin's money for? He would be leaving here soon.

However, not caring about the reward didn't mean he could be fooled like an idiot.

Unless…

There was a hidden quest!

Bai Ye readily extended his hand to the Penguin and said, "Deal!"
