Chapter 13 Pressing Forward

This was an opportunity Bai Ye couldn't let go of. He immediately darted out, leaped up, stepped on the axe handle, and then onto the axe-wielder. He drew his handgun and shoved it directly into the axe-wielder's mouth.

Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang...

The axe-wielder's head was much tougher than that of an ordinary zombie. Bai Ye continuously pulled the trigger until he ran out of bullets. Only then did the axe-wielder's head finally explode. The massive body toppled backward, crashing to the ground with a thud.

Bai Ye wiped his gun with his sleeve, then unloaded the magazine, loaded a new one, and approached the dying man. He looked down at the man's wound, his intestines spilling out.

"Anything else you want to say?" Bai Ye asked.

"Give me a ride..." the man gasped. "Put me out of my misery. Thank you."

Bai Ye nodded, aimed his handgun at the man's head, and said, "Farewell, and don't let the door hit you on the way out."

Bang!

Bai Ye pulled the trigger. A bloody hole appeared in the man's head, and his body slowly slumped.

Bai Ye felt a pang of emotion. It wasn't that the man had died, but that when the axe-wielder appeared, the man had actually warned him to be careful.

Such a thing...

It was only possible at the very beginning of the World Battlefield. It made Bai Ye a little nostalgic. After all, ten years later, everyone's mind was occupied by only one thing: killing others, snatching God Stone fragments, and then leaving this damned place alive.

He put his gun back into its holster, took out a bag of nutrient solution, opened it, and put it in his mouth. Bai Ye continued towards Area C.

The appearance of the axe-wielder wasn't necessarily a bad thing. For the Umbrella Corporation, the axe-wielder was a failed product, but it had still mutated and was a valuable subject for reference.

In other words, before this base was destroyed by zombies due to a viral leak, the axe-wielder was likely kept with the Tyrant, or at least in the same area.

"So..." Bai Ye mused, "if the axe-wielder appeared in Area C, could the area where the axe-wielder and the Tyrant were held be near Area C?"

As he thought, Bai Ye recalled the general layout of the underground base.

The outer area was near the entrance and exit, followed by Area A. Area A was actually a decoy; it wasn't used for viral research but served as a normal bio-company's offices, just in case the base was discovered and they could try to bluff their way through.

Area B was for zombie sample experiments, meaning it was where they injected viruses to create zombies and observe their reactions. Area C was for viral sample experiments. Based on the original virus, Umbrella Corporation had developed various viruses, most of which were failed or semi-finished products. The T-virus was the most complete and the closest to a perfect base virus.

Bai Ye thought as he looked at the illuminated signs, muttering, "From here is the living quarters, the second passage is the entertainment area, turning right is the restaurant area..."

Bai Ye tried his best to recall the structure of the Umbrella Corporation's underground base. More accurately, Bai Ye was recalling the areas he hadn't visited in his previous life. Those areas were likely to contain the places where the Tyrant was held. Although the underground base was now destroyed and the Tyrant couldn't be contained, the probability of finding the Tyrant would be higher in the areas surrounding its containment site.

Suddenly, a thought struck Bai Ye.

"Entertainment area?"

Since the underground base staff lived within the base and couldn't leave freely, an entertainment area was necessary.

After all, even a donkey on a production team needed to catch its breath. Working underground for extended periods without a place to relieve stress could lead to research staff breaking down emotionally.

In his previous life, Bai Ye hadn't visited the entertainment area. Logically, it would be filled with recreational facilities and have nothing to do with viral research. What could he find there?

However...

"As the saying goes, the most unlikely place is the most likely?"

Bai Ye muttered, thinking that since he didn't know where else to look for the Tyrant, he might as well try his luck.

Bai Ye acted on his thought immediately, changed direction, and headed towards the entertainment area.

Upon entering the entertainment area, Bai Ye realized it was indeed quite impressive.

Billiards, poker, arcade games, a gym, a private cinema, indoor golf – it had everything. Most incredibly, it was equipped with ecological environment projections. Despite being underground, there were windows that showed skyscrapers outside.

Bai Ye remotely controlled the projection, and the environment changed to a seaside, with beaches, palm trees, and bikini-clad beauties. Even the sound of the sea breeze was simulated.

Bai Ye felt that the designer of this ecological environment projection clearly understood what men desired.

Bai Ye walked forward, thinking to himself, and then...

Bai Ye suddenly stopped, his gaze falling to the side.

There was a crack in the seascape!

The fake was just fake. Everything around was a projection. When the projection screen became damaged, the projected image naturally showed a crack.

The reason Bai Ye felt something was off was...

There was wind!

Behind the screen should be a wall. Why was there wind?

Wind implied that there was space behind the screen, and airflow would create wind.

Bai Ye walked towards the crack and forcefully pulled the damaged screen to the side. He then peeked inside and his eyes lit up. Indeed, there was space behind the screen.

Bai Ye stepped over the screen and slowly walked forward.

This space was somewhat dim. At the end, there was an old iron ladder. It creaked with each step. After descending the iron ladder, Bai Ye saw many neatly arranged glass jars.

The glass jars had iron bases. Inside the jars was a green, viscous liquid. Some of the jars had shattered, and the liquid had spilled all over the floor, thick and carrying a faint, fishy odor.

Besides that, there were many corpses!

Licker corpses!

About ten Licker corpses. Bai Ye went up to examine them. He could see many slash wounds on the Lickers, and of course, the fatal blow was a penetration to the head.

It was clear that these Lickers had been killed by someone!

"So, is this where the Umbrella Corporation's base manufactured Lickers?" Bai Ye frowned. "It seems someone has already been here."

Rumble!

As Bai Ye was thinking, a loud noise suddenly came from the ground beneath his feet, and the ground began to vibrate continuously.
