Chapter 29: Sold For Marriage
DAVINA
"Wake up, little Vina..."
A soothing yet, agitating voice kept ringing in my ears, and even though I didn’t want to respond to it. I felt a cold palm on my chin, with long and thin fingers drawing circles on my chest.
"Leave me alone..." I pushed the hands away, hoping to get more sleep as I had fallen asleep after crying.
"Get the fuck up!"
Pak!
A sharp slap resounded on my face and my eyes flew open the next second. A harsh and slow breath spilled out of my mouth, with my eyes widening slowly.
As I held my face, I slowly looked up in horror, and shock when I saw the Alpha hovering over me.
Immediately, my heart sank and goosebumps lined my skin and as our eyes met, his lips curled upward, slow and taunting.
"We meet again, Davina. Did you miss me?"
I glued myself to the wall as he bent down to my level with his muscles flexing and fur growing on his body. His wolf was on the edge, swarming in his eyes and ready to pounce on me.
"Aren’t you going to welcome me?" He snapped.
"Wel..welcome..." I shivered.
"Nah..." He shook his head. "That’s not good enough."
"What..."
He grabbed my hand, pulling me up on my feet, and a certain dread washed over me.
"Please..." I let out, as I scratched his arm to get him off me.
But it was futile. This man was as hard as steel and nothing could get him away.
In the blink of an eye, we were out of my room, rushing straight to another part of the mansion I had not stepped into.
A few guards were patrolling the area and it got darker on the way. I was nearing my doom, realizing I had been stupid when I snapped at Ethan, telling him that the Alpha should do his worst.
His worst wasn’t yet to come and I was already shaking all over and my bladder was about to burst.
We got to an empty room, and he threw me in. My body scraped on the floor as I rolled to the feet of another person.
I recognized these feet so well, with manicured toenails nestled in a high-end heel.
"Mom...?" I stuttered, quickly raising my head to see her looking up at me.
Her smile was bright, and beautiful like a mother looking down at her beloved child but deep within those eyes was a venom that chilled me to my bones.
"You have been a bad child." She clicked her tongue.
"No..." I shook my head, pulling away from her. I found the nearest exit, a window I could go through. But then they closed in on me.
"You left me all alone here to put up with a father I do not want! A father who tortures his children and you expect me to behave?!"
She laughed, like the pain and the words I spilled were nothing.
"Diego was merely supposed to teach you a lesson. To become a better woman and be a loved princess. How is that hard?"
"A better woman?" I sneered. "By warming his bed?"
"Or don’t you know he is a creep?"
But the way they froze made me realize I had made a mistake.
Diego’s eyes chilled, "Who...who told you that?"
My stomach dipped, knowing he hadn’t successfully carried out his cruel words because the brothers protected me.
My mind churned, to quell his suspicion.
"The...the night you...you came into my room." I stuttered, as a lie sprouted in my mind. "I saw that devilish look in your eyes and you couldn’t keep your hands away from me!"
"You...you thought I was asleep?" I sneered. "Your devilish sons—"
"Quiet!" He snapped, his face twitching with heavy breaths and I swallowed, as the rest of my words turned into dust inside me.
"Now, you know what I want from you. I have waited for you, long enough."
He reached for me, his claws lengthening and I desperately glued myself to the wall and clawed at the window by my side.
If I jumped, it would definitely be to my death.
I glanced at my mother who stood back watching this man close in on me.
I cried, "This shouldn’t be happening."
She shrugged, "It’s your purpose. If you didn’t cause trouble again, it wouldn’t be so hard on you this way."
"So, just take it as it is."
I shook my head, "You are getting married to him, not me!"
"Why do I have to satisfy your man?"
She laughed, her chest heaving and suddenly, her eyes turned sharp at me.
"Why do you think he wanted me? It was you, all along."
"What?" My brows creased. "What do you mean?"
At this point, Diego had closed in on me, and his hand wrapped around my neck. I struggled to breathe, with my red-rimmed eyes blinking rapidly.
And when I saw the satisfied smile on my mother’s face, I felt my skin crawl.
"Did...did you sell me to him? For your marriage?"
"Oh..." The Alpha tilted his head. "Now, your brain works."
I felt a sinking feeling inside of me and it just dawned on me fully, that I was never a thing, or a person before my mother.
She hated me, for something our family which I didn’t break. She blamed me for years and I should have known she would throw me away for anything that seemed to cater to her.
I had a number of questions, but I couldn’t speak because my neck was in a chokehold.
What did she gain from this? Money? Love? A marriage she wanted? How would she sleep at night?
I held Diego’s arm even though my skin crawled, attempting to push him away from me.
Inside me, I begged for that same strength that I had earlier. That strength that filled me with purpose and the drive that I needed.
"Just wait a little more, baby. You will love this..." His fingers caressed the side of my face gently as he tucked my hair behind my ear.
"The full moon is coming, and you will be bound to me. Everything you are, will be mine to control."
"But for now, I am going to teach you a lesson."
His hand went to his shirt, and he started to unbutton it slowly.
