Chapter 52: I Am Sorry

Chapter 52: I Am Sorry

DAVINA

My eyes opened, as my fists wrapped around the edges of the bed. The white walls of the hospital ward room were in sight, with a distraught figure pacing all around.

"Hey...hey..." I croaked, and the next second, my chest was on fire, with a searing pain seeping into my throat.

I moved on the bed, shaking and the figure turned to look at me.

"Davina? You are awake?" A short gasp escaped his lips as he rushed toward me.

And then I pointed at the bedside table, "Water...water..."

In the blink of an eye, a jar of water was in my face and I grabbed it. I chugged down the volumes of water in seconds, but it wasn’t enough.

He brought another over and by the third jar, I was breathing hard. My body caved over the bed, as I held my chest.

"Are you okay? Do you need me to call the healer?"

I glanced at him, brows creased, "Who are you?"

"Darius."

"Ohh..." I let out, knowing I had heard his voice but had never seen his face. At that moment, my head whipped around the room, as I was desperately looking for my mates.

"Where are they?"

"Who?" He frowned, looking very clueless.

"My mates?" I grabbed his arm. "They were in here, right?"

"Ohh..." He laughed. "They were taken somewhere else—"

"Where?"

"Uhmm..." He stuttered, while glancing at the door.

"Shit! Where the hell are they?" I snapped, as my eyes blazed with intense rage.

He took a step back almost immediately, and he had his hands clasped behind him.

"I will take you to them this minute!"

"That’s what I thought." I snickered, as I pushed off the bed. I didn’t feel lightweight at all, or feel any fatigue from staying in bed for so long as I strolled out of the ward.

I was dressed in a flimsy hospital dress, just like the rest of the patients. And I quickly caught up to Darius.

"How are my mates doing? Are they still injured?"

He stopped, with his brows raised slightly, "Did you recall attacking them?"

"Y...yes. Did anything bad happen to them?"

He pursed his lips, and at that moment, my stomach dipped. He then bowed his head, with his eyes turning sad.

"I don’t know how they are going to react to seeing you, Davina. They feel betrayed."

"Oh goddess!" I gasped as my eyes blurred with tears at the edges. "What have I done?"

"So, isn’t it better you stay back for a while until they get calm? They might be too angry to see you—"

"I want to see them now." I cut in, as my fists clenched tightly.

"What?" He gasped. "Won’t you be putting yourself in harm’s way?"

"I don’t care!" I insisted. "I harmed them, whatever they want to do to me, they should do it."

As my gaze hardened, I pointed at Darius, "Lead the way!"

He nodded, but as he turned away from me, I saw the slight raise of his lips.

I went after him, "Are you smiling? At this crucial moment?"

"Of course not..." he gasped, covering his mouth as his eyes darted dramatically. "I wouldn’t dare do that before your honorable self!"

"It’s just so amazing to see you worry over them..." He got to a door and pushed it open. "...while they have been waiting desperately for you."

I stood at the door as Darius couldn’t stop grinning. But my eyes were on my mates, sitting on three different beds. The silence that prevailed over the room, as their gazes on me turned intense made my breath hitch.

And when my eyes trailed down to the bandages on their bodies, soaked with blood while they had bags of blood hooked to their bodies, it made my chest tighten.

"I’m sorry..." I whispered, as my feet carried me into the room. I almost stumbled but Uriel was up on his feet first.

He unhooked the needle in his arm, letting the blood drip as he caught me in his arms.

He held me tightly, against his injured chest and didn’t mind the pain from having me pressed tightly to him.

As his head lay on my shoulder, sinking into my neck, he whispered shakily, "My baby..."

But the next second, I was yanked off him, straight into Ethan’s arms. And he came with a surge as his teeth sank in my flesh, very close to the crook of my neck.

"What should I do?" He pulled away for a moment. "Should I mark you and never let you out of my sight?"

His voice was hoarse, filled with desire and longing he had buried deep in his heart.

"Uhhmm uhmm!" Darius quickly cleared his throat, to get Ethan out of his delusion, and at that moment, I glanced at Shawn who was still on his bed.

He was calm, too calm with a stoic face that didn’t turn away from me for a second. But his eyes betrayed him.

It was stormy, with a trace of guilt in there.

I walked toward him and took his hand knowing just how much he had gone through with Darius to save me from the Alpha.

"I am sorry..." He finally spoke up. "I couldn’t protect you from my father."

"It’s okay." I smiled, as a lone tear slipped from my eye. "I am sorry I did this to you..."

I touched his injury on the side of his stomach, and he winced slightly.

"You shouldn’t touch that..."

And as he turned his face away from me, I frowned.

"Why haven’t you healed yet?"

It just clicked in my mind, realizing it’s been three days since they got injured.

Darius stepped forward, "Their lives are in your hands now."

"What?" I arched a brow.

He took my hand, and the next second, he placed it on Shawn’s injury. My fingers traced the deep red marks that framed the site and the bandages.

"You see those, they are yours. Your claws left them, and only you can retract them. If you don’t, they might die."

"Heal them, Davina."

I swallowed, as I glanced at them all before Darius urged me again. All I could think of was speaking to Seraphine, asking for help.

But her obnoxious self skidded all through my mind, "What are they going to give me in return to heal them?"
