Chapter 501 Establishing an Empress

He used to think his Nannan had grown up at fifteen, but now Yun'er was almost eighteen, and he found Nan Zhiyun becoming more childish.

"Furthermore... on that day, I will bestow the title of Empress upon Yun'er." Yu Jingchen’s words created a storm, and everyone present was shocked by his announcement.

Especially Nan Zhiyun, she froze in place, speechless, as if she had been stunned.

Bestow the title of Empress upon her? Nan Zhiyun suspected her ears had malfunctioned. Was he talking about her?

"Your... Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun's speech became faltering.

"What's wrong? Can't you speak anymore?" Yu Jingchen found Nan Zhiyun's reaction somewhat amusing.

Nan Zhiyun bit her lip, her thoughts unknown. She slowly stood up. No one knew what Nan Zhiyun intended to do, they only watched her walk slowly towards Yu Jingchen.

Yu Jingchen didn't understand Nan Zhiyun's intentions either, but he still raised his hand and pulled her closer.

"What's wrong? Are you unhappy?" Yu Jingchen asked her. Nan Zhiyun was enfolded in his arms. Nan Zhiyun shook her head, leaving Yu Jingchen rather confused.

"What is it? Yun'er, you don't want this?" Yu Jingchen asked again. Nan Su and the Empress Dowager also looked at Nan Zhiyun without speaking.

"Afraid..." Nan Zhiyun finally managed to utter a single word.

Afraid?

"Why are you afraid? Afraid of what? Hmm?" Yu Jingchen questioned her.

"I'm afraid I'm not good enough... I don't know how to do anything, so I'm afraid I won't be able to fulfill the role... I'm afraid Your Majesty won't like me anymore... I'm afraid of being killed..." Nan Zhiyun said a lot, but Yu Jingchen found it amusing. He didn't understand why Nan Zhiyun would think this way; she never seemed to think like this normally.

"Why would Yun'er think like that? Who says you can't do it?" Yu Jingchen soothed her.

"That's what all those storybooks say. Once one becomes an Empress, many people will try to seize that position and frame the Empress. The Empress also has to do many things daily. More importantly, in those storybooks, the Emperor never likes the Empress. They might appear to be united, but the Emperor doesn't dote on the Empress." Nan Zhiyun wrapped her arms around Yu Jingchen's neck.

Hearing her say this, Yu Jingchen was taken aback. What kind of reasoning was this? Nan Su and the Empress Dowager, who had been worried, now found themselves at a loss for whether to laugh or cry upon hearing Nan Zhiyun's response.

"Storybooks? Yun'er, did you read this in picture books?" Yu Jingchen looked at Nan Zhiyun with amusement.

"Yes... So many storybooks say this. It's not just one book. If it were only one, I wouldn't take it seriously; I'd just think of it as a story. But almost all the storybooks write the same thing, so it must be reliable and have some basis in reality." Nan Zhiyun spoke as if it were the absolute truth, her face still carrying a fearful expression. She leaned against Yu Jingchen's chest, as if she were about to be abandoned the moment she became Empress.

Nan Zhiyun felt the tremor in Yu Jingchen's chest and was bewildered. She looked up curiously at Yu Jingchen and saw him laughing heartily.

Not only Yu Jingchen, but even her father and the Empress Dowager could not hide their smiles.

Nan Zhiyun's face flushed instantly. Why were they all laughing at her?

"Your Majesty..." Nan Zhiyun's eyes were innocent, but Yu Jingchen was thoroughly amused and laughed uncontrollably.
