"Meow~" the bell let out a sound.
"Good girl~" Jiang Ji gently stroked the bell, then reached out and slowly pulled open the bed curtain.
Looking at Nan Zhiyun, whose complexion was haggard on the bed, Jiang Ji's eyes flickered. He looked at the little cat in his arms, "You miss her, don't you? Go on..." Jiang Ji released his hand.
The bell jumped out of his arms, walked to Nan Zhiyun's pillow and lay down, without disturbing her.
Jiang Ji stood in place. He noticed that Nan Zhiyun seemed to have been crying, and the pillowcase by her eyes was wet. For some reason, Jiang Ji's heart also felt a pang.
He reached out as if to touch her, but just as he raised his hand, he put it down.
"My hands are dirty..." Jiang Ji looked at his hands and tugged at the corner of his lips, a slightly terrifying smile.
"But it will be soon... I will keep my promise." Jiang Ji looked at Nan Zhiyun, his thoughts inscrutable.
"Your father wanted you to be well... but you look so pathetic right now..." Jiang Ji muttered to himself.
"He loves you very much, and in the end, he thought of you completely. He doesn't want to see you like this." He continued, then lost in thought about something.
"...I don't want to either," Jiang Ji added.
"I'm sorry... I don't want to either, but I can't help it..." A hint of guilt appeared in Jiang Ji's eyes.
In his eyes, Nan Zhiyun had always been like a little sun, living like a child. Jiang Ji had never seen her so fragile. He had known before that Nan Zhiyun was not favored and had suffered much mistreatment, but he had never witnessed it.
When he saw Nan Zhiyun, Yu Jingchen had been doting on her, so in Jiang Ji's eyes, Nan Zhiyun had always been radiant. Seeing her like this now was something Jiang Ji had never imagined. He didn't understand why it had become this way.
Jiang Ji's mood was complicated. He had approached Nan Zhiyun with ulterior motives from the very beginning, including the incident where he caused Nan Zhiyun to fall...
He had no other choice. Only by doing this could he ensure that his future plans could proceed. Nan Zhiyun was the best candidate. Moreover... the Empress Dowager was aware of this. It was with the Empress Dowager's instigation that he had been able to get close to Nan Zhiyun so smoothly.
Sometimes he envied Nan Zhiyun, because she had a father and an Empress Dowager who thought of her, who would spare no expense for her. As for himself... perhaps thinking of unpleasant memories, Jiang Ji's expression turned sinister.
It would be soon... in two more days, he would be able to avenge himself... everything would be over soon.
However... recently, there had been many tails following him. Someone had started to suspect him. The only person Jiang Ji could think of was the one above.
When Yu Jingchen brought Nan Zhiyun back a couple of days ago, he had summoned him. His words were full of probing, but Jiang Ji couldn't quite understand. Given Yu Jingchen's nature, if he had suspected him, he would have nipped it in the bud. Yet, even now, Yu Jingchen hadn't done anything to him, only sent people to watch him. This was quite perplexing.
Was it because of the Empress Dowager? But it shouldn't be. The Empress Dowager wouldn't go to Yu Jingchen to say these things now, and moreover, she wouldn't go to such lengths for him.
