The daughter and that man.
Time does not stop for one person's disappearance, nor does the earth cease its rotation because one person has left. This era even grants little time for sorrow, for life must go on, and those who are alive must continue to live.
Ye Wan continued her internship, and Jiang Yan found another part-time job. However, the two would occasionally think of Jiang Mi and feel sad.
...
Yan Haojue asked Ye Wan if she had time for a casual meal. Ye Wan, remembering her debt of gratitude for his rescue, agreed, proposing to treat him as a thank you.
They arranged to meet at the restaurant of their previous hotel. Ye Wan checked her phone; the average price per person was fifteen thousand. Although she felt it was too expensive, it was, after all, a rescue.
Ye Wan went straight to the hotel after work. Yan Haojue waited for her outside the hotel and smiled as he walked towards her upon seeing her. After Ye Wan greeted him, they headed to the restaurant.
Once seated, they began ordering. Ye Wan said, "Don't be polite, order whatever you like. This meal is on me."
"I won't be polite," Yan Haojue replied, ordering a few dishes. Ye Wan also ordered a couple.
Yan Haojue's gaze occasionally fell on Ye Wan's face. He had already investigated her background and was now certain that the girl in front of him was not the person he was looking for. She was only in her early twenties, while the woman from back then was at least over forty.
But how could there be two such similar people in this world? It made him wonder if this girl had some connection to the woman from back then, which was why he had asked her to meet him again.
As they were waiting for the food, Gu Yunting and Yan Jiayi walked in from outside. Yan Jiayi immediately spotted her father, whom she had only met twice. Gu Yunting, on the other hand, saw Ye Wan at a glance.
Ye Wan was wearing a white dress that day, with her long hair tied into a ponytail. She looked youthfully invincible, her face adorned with a gentle smile, so serene and beautiful that one couldn't help but be captivated.
"Why is my father with Ye Wan?" Yan Jiayi couldn't understand, yet she felt a hint of schadenfreude. Ye Wan was indeed a troublemaker, with men coming one after another, not even sparing married older men.
Now Gu Yunting would finally see her true colors, she thought.
When the two appeared by the table, Ye Wan only looked up. Her smile immediately vanished upon seeing them.
Gu Yunting's gaze remained fixed on Ye Wan.
"Dad, why are you with Ye Wan? How do you know each other?" Yan Jiayi asked.
"Ye Wan and I are friends. We are having dinner. You two should go eat yourselves," Yan Haojue said with a frown.
"Uncle Yan is also a busy man. Jiayi has asked you out several times without success. It's a coincidence that we ran into each other today, so why don't we eat together? I don't think Miss Ye would mind," Gu Yunting said, pulling up a chair and sitting down, his gaze on Ye Wan.
Ye Wan: "..."
Yan Jiayi also said with a smile, "Yes, Dad. You're so busy you don't have time to meet my fiancé, and now that we've finally met, let's eat together."
Yan Haojue's upbringing prevented him from directly refusing them, so he could only look at Ye Wan and ask, "Ye Wan, do you mind?"
What could Ye Wan say? Looking at Gu Yunting's menacing stare, she replied, "Whatever."
