"She had the child aborted the moment she learned that Mian Mian didn't need the baby in her womb! Such a vicious woman doesn't deserve to be a mother!" Jiang Jingxiu's eyes flashed with pain as he brought it up; it was a life.
Mian Mian was so adorable; that child must have been equally intelligent and cute. Yet, its life was snuffed out by its own mother before it even began.
"That's impossible! Jiang Mi would never do such a thing. You don't understand a mother's love for her child! We would rather suffer ourselves than harm our child even a little bit," Ye Wan immediately denied. Although the truth was still unclear, she wouldn't believe anything that would cast doubt on Jiang Mi.
No one knew better than she did how overjoyed Jiang Mi was about the child's arrival. And as a soon-to-be mother herself, she understood even more how much Jiang Mi loved her own baby.
"That's how it is. Go ask her. As for her wanting Mian Mian back, it's impossible. She doesn't deserve it." Jiang Jingxiu was convinced that Jiang Mi had aborted the fetus herself, so he was filled with aversion towards her and didn't want to discuss anything related to her anymore.
Ye Wan was exasperated. She had to go ask Jiang Mi what exactly happened. Arguing with Jiang Jingxiu was useless now; she needed to clarify the facts first.
Jin Lan escorted Ye Wan out. Ye Wan asked him about Gu Yunting's hand condition. Jin Lan told her not to worry, saying it was recovering quite well.
After a moment's hesitation, Jin Lan said, "Do you know why he gripped his hand so tightly, preferring to be crippled rather than open it?"
"Why?" Ye Wan had no idea. She could barely see him, let alone know the reason for his actions.
"His palm held two rings: the silver ring you gave him, and the one he gave you." Jin Lan, unable to bear seeing Gu Yunting suffer any longer, told Ye Wan the truth.
Ye Wan could hardly believe what she heard. She remembered being so angry at the time. Thinking that they had broken up, she felt there was no need to keep the two rings and had thrown them into a nearby burning brazier. So, Gu Yunting had reached into the brazier to retrieve the rings, causing his hand to be burned?
The fire had been burning so fiercely. And then he had clenched the burnt rings in his palm... Thinking about it made her breathless.
How much pain must he have been in? The rings must have embedded themselves into his flesh.
"Was it difficult to remove them?" Ye Wan asked, trembling, almost unable to stand.
"The rings had fused with his flesh. They had to be cut off bit by bit with a surgical knife," Jin Lan calmly told her a fact.
Ye Wan's legs went weak. She leaned against the wall to keep herself from falling. Jin Lan quickly supported her. "Don't worry, the surgery was successful, and his hand is recovering well."
"It's good that it can recover. It's good that it can recover."
As Ye Wan sat in the car heading to Jiang Mi's hospital, she kept her hand over her heart. The pain there was almost to the point of losing consciousness. Now, she was certain that Gu Yunting loved her, and loved her deeply.
She didn't know when he started loving her. But if, as he claimed, he didn't love her and was just playing with her, or punishing her, why would he embed meaningless rings into his own flesh?
Gu Yunting was not only a great liar but also a master of deception!
When Ye Wan saw Jiang Mi, she was awake. Ye Wan asked her for the specifics of the incident. Jiang Mi explained the details to her. After listening, Ye Wan asked, "So, you never saw those two bodyguards, and you're not sure if they were Jiang Jingxiu's bodyguards?"
