Ye Wan returned to her room. She tried not to cry, but tears still welled up despite herself. Angrily, she walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. The water streamed down her face, making it impossible for anyone to see she was weeping.
She couldn't understand why life had to be so difficult. Did fate think she hadn't suffered enough? This was the closest she had ever felt to happiness, but was it to be snatched away so soon?
Ye Wan, in a daze, returned to her room and fell into a deep sleep. When Sun Ma came in, she gasped upon seeing Ye Wan still in her wet clothes. She quickly helped Ye Wan out of them, then blow-dried her hair and changed her into clean pajamas. After making sure she was settled, Sun Ma left.
The next day, Ye Wan woke up with a pounding headache. She checked the time; it was already afternoon. After she got up, lunch was ready. She ate, and then Sun Ma handed her a divorce certificate.
Sun Ma didn't dare to look up at Ye Wan, knowing how heartbroken she would be.
To everyone's surprise, Ye Wan was remarkably calm. She even managed a smile. She picked up the divorce certificate and examined it closely before calmly accepting it.
"Ye Wan, if you're sad, just cry it out. Don't hold it in; it's bad for your health," Sun Ma said, her own tears falling as she looked at Ye Wan with concern.
"I don't want to cry, Sun Ma. I'm fine," Ye Wan replied, not shedding a tear. She even smiled at Sun Ma again.
"I'm going to the mall later to buy some things."
School was starting soon, and she planned to buy all her back-to-school necessities that day.
"I'll have someone prepare the car," Sun Ma said, her heart aching. She knew she shouldn't cry in front of Ye Wan, as it would only make her feel worse.
Ye Wan arrived at the mall and bought stationery and books for school. She bought two sets, one for herself and one for Jiang Yan. After she finished, the driver asked where else she wanted to go. Ye Wan suddenly felt a desire to see her brother.
She suddenly remembered her brother mentioning he wanted to join a training camp. Only Gu Yun Ting could arrange that, and she hadn't mentioned it to him yet.
So, she immediately asked the driver to take her to Gu's Group, as if she had finally found a reason to see him.
Upon her arrival, Ye Wan was escorted upstairs. Gu Yun Ting was in a meeting. The secretary quickly knocked on his door to inform him that Ye Wan was here and waiting outside.
However, the secretary returned with a troubled expression. Ye Wan stood up and looked at her. The secretary spoke awkwardly, "Miss Ye, I apologize, but the President said to return. He's busy and can't see you right now."
The secretary didn't understand what was wrong with the President. Previously, he had always allowed Miss Ye to see him directly, and with great enthusiasm. But today, after she reported Ye Wan's arrival, he had paused for a moment before saying this.
"May I wait here for him?" Ye Wan's eyes began to mist over. She disliked this version of herself. In the past, she was like an armored knight, invulnerable. She never allowed herself to cry, because crying made her feel weak.
But now, because of him, she felt like crying at the slightest provocation.
"This way, please," the secretary said. She wasn't foolish and, although she couldn't say anything, she seemed to sense the President's internal struggle. He probably wanted to see her.
The secretary dared not take her into Gu Yun Ting's office, so she led her to an adjacent reception room. Inside was a sofa. The secretary poured her a cup of milk, and Ye Wan sat there, waiting for Gu Yun Ting to finish his meeting.
But as she waited, she eventually fell asleep.
