The new semester was about to begin. After finally waking up, Ye Wan called Jiang Yan to ask if she wanted to go shopping for back-to-school supplies together.
Jiang Yan had already started her part-time job at the milk tea shop and didn't have much time. She told Ye Wan to go ahead and buy her things first, but Ye Wan insisted on buying a set for her too.
After hanging up, Jiang Yan continued making the milk tea in her hands. Once it was finished, she handed it to the waiting customer. "Hello, what would you like..."
The rest of her words caught in her throat because the customers were Chu Yu and another girl. Jiang Yan recognized the girl; she was from the same high school, one of those popular and influential figures. Her family was also very wealthy. Back then, Jiang Yan was practically invisible in school, not particularly attractive, and her family's financial situation was only slightly above average. Consequently, she never caught the attention of those prominent students.
"I'd like a Mango Pomelo Sago, Chu Yu, what do you want?" the girl asked, smiling as she linked her arm through Chu Yu's.
"Lemonade, no sugar," Chu Yu replied, his gaze fixed on Jiang Yan, his voice low. Da Feng Novel Network.
Jiang Yan immediately printed the order and gestured for them to scan the QR code to pay before she started making their drinks.
Yet, she felt an inexplicable pang in her heart. She knew this girl had been studying abroad and now looked even more refined and sophisticated. Every item she wore was expensive; she was clearly a "bai fumei" (a wealthy, attractive, and educated woman). Perhaps only girls like her were a good match for Chu Yu.
As Jiang Yan was preparing the drinks, she suddenly heard the girl behind her call out, "Are you Jiang Yan?"
Jiang Yan's hands paused. She turned around and smiled. "Hello, I am Jiang Yan."
"It really is you! I remember your family is in the clothing business and has your own bridal shop. My sister's wedding dress was ordered from your store. Are you working part-time here?" Gao Lisha asked, her gaze full of curiosity.
"Something like that. That'll be two drinks. Thank you." Jiang Yan wasn't familiar with her and didn't want to prolong the conversation. She handed over the drinks and then turned to serve the next customer.
"We're all classmates. Since we've run into each other, why don't we have dinner together? When do you get off work?" Gao Lisha continued to press.
After taking the order for the next customer, Jiang Yan found the woman's behavior perplexing. They weren't close at all, and Jiang Yan didn't even know how this woman knew her name. Why would they need to have dinner together?
"I still have a long way to go. Thank you for your kind offer, but I won't intrude on your date," Jiang Yan politely declined with a smile.
Gao Lisha seemed disappointed, but she still didn't leave. And since she didn't leave, Chu Yu didn't leave either, just standing there, which Jiang Yan found incredibly annoying.
"Jiang Yan, you don't know this, but many of the boys around me back then quite liked you. I remember Chu Yu used to secretly look at you," Gao Lisha said with a smile, seemingly determined to strike up a conversation.
"I didn't know. I thought I was very ordinary," Jiang Yan replied flatly.
She thought her nonchalant response would deter Gao Lisha, but the woman persisted. "How could you be ordinary? You were so chubby and cute back then." She then added, "Chu Yu, don't you think so?"
"Mm," Chu Yu responded.
Jiang Yan almost messed up the change. She thought these two were utterly ridiculous. She was Chu Yu's ex-girlfriend, and he was standing in front of his ex with his current girlfriend. What was he trying to do?
And was this Gao Lisha truly ignorant, or was she deliberately testing her?
Regardless, Jiang Yan didn't want to deal with it. She was already exhausted just trying to survive.
