Upon returning home, Jian Yi busied herself with fetching warm water for Jiang Yan, while Jin Lan, after settling her down, headed to the supermarket.
Jian Yi watched her mother drink the water before placing the cup on the bedside table. "Mom, you should sleep now. I'll stay with you," she said.
"Thank you, my darling," Jiang Yan kissed Jian Yi. She was indeed very tired and fell asleep as soon as she lay down.
Jian Yi faithfully stayed by her side, watching her mother sleep with a happy heart.
When Jin Lan returned with the groceries, he entered the bedroom. Jian Yi immediately gestured for him to be quiet. Jin Lan tiptoed in, smiling, and picked her up. "Go play for a while. I'll cook dinner later and then wake your mother to eat," he said.
Jian Yi nodded. Jin Lan put her down, and she quietly left the room to find something to do.
Jin Lan was very touched by Jian Yi's thoughtfulness. Looking at his wife's sleeping face, his eyes were filled with tenderness. The entire trip to the supermarket, he had feared it was all a dream, that upon waking, everything would revert to how it was before, with Jiang Yan not pregnant and their relationship still strained.
He lowered his head and gently kissed his wife's forehead before rising and softly leaving the bedroom to cook.
Jiang Yan knew he had returned. She opened her eyes briefly before closing them and continuing to sleep.
During dinner, as the family of three was happily eating, the doorbell rang. Jin Lan said, "I'll get it."
He opened the door and his expression changed slightly upon seeing Jin Qing.
"Sister, why are you here?" Jin Lan asked, frowning.
"I've come to bring you and Yan Yan some things. I heard Yan Yan is pregnant," Jin Qing said, smiling as she entered, followed by a maid carrying several items.
Jiang Yan, who had been eating normally, felt nauseous upon seeing Jin Qing and rushed to the bathroom, vomiting the half-bowl of noodles she had just eaten.
Jian Yi was heartbroken. "Mom!" she cried, rushing into the bathroom to help her mother by patting her back and handing her tissues.
Jin Qing, however, was delighted. "This time it's for sure, she's really pregnant. Morning sickness is normal for pregnant women, it'll pass in a month or two. Oh, I always said this little girl looks like a lucky charm. See, Jiang Yan got pregnant right after she came home."
"Sister, please don't say such things," Jin Lan quickly went to check on Jiang Yan, disregarding his sister.
"How am I talking nonsense? You two should thank me this time. It's because I brought Tao Tao back that Jiang Yan got pregnant. Otherwise, she wouldn't have conceived. So, Tao Tao deserves some credit. Tao Tao, come quickly, look what Auntie brought you!" Jin Qing called out to Tao Tao.
Tao Tao was now a little afraid of Jin Qing and hesitated, looking nervously at her father.
"Sister, the child's name has been changed to Jian Yi, and Yan Yan's pregnancy has nothing to do with Jian Yi."
"How can it have nothing to do with it? If I hadn't arranged for you to adopt Tao Tao, could Jiang Yan have gotten pregnant? Don't delude yourself. Jiang Yan wanted to scold this madwoman, even hit her, but she was vomiting uncontrollably, her limbs weak, and she collapsed to the floor.
Jin Lan was terrified. "Sister, please stop talking! If there's nothing else, you should leave. We don't need you here right now."
