Ye Wanran called Jun Lichen. Gu Junbo answered the phone. Jun Lichen was awake and reached for his phone, saying weakly, "Give me the phone."
"You should rest and recover now," Gu Junbo said, looking at his son with concern.
"This call is very important, I must answer it myself!" Jun Lichen insisted, reaching out with a stubborn glint in his eyes.
"It's that girl named Ye Wanran. Don't tell me you've actually fallen for her?" Gu Junbo looked grimly at his son, who had been nearly beaten to death. Both were his sons, yet they had become mortal enemies. This was the situation he least wished to see.
"That's my business, none of yours!" Jun Lichen said coldly.
The call was connected. Ye Wanran angrily said, "Jun Lichen, can you stay away from Gu Yunting in the future! The person who hurt you has never been him! You're an adult, don't you have any judgment? Can you stop being so childish!"
Ye Wanran was truly angry. Both were Gu family sons, yet Mr. Gu favored Jun Lichen. From what Ye Wenqing had said before, it was clear that Jun Lichen's birth mother was Mr. Gu's true love!
She now felt immense pity for Gu Yunting, the child unloved by his father.
Upon hearing her words, Jun Lichen felt a sharp pain in his chest. He couldn't help but cough twice, blood trickling from his lips.
"Ye Wanran, in your heart, am I so despicable that I'm worthless?" Jun Lichen asked through his pain.
He regretted it. He regretted using a girl to get revenge on someone, only to realize in the end that he had fallen hopelessly in love with her.
He hadn't seen Ye Wanran since the holidays. He knew now that he was going crazy missing her, and if he couldn't see her, he might truly lose his mind. Ye Wanran no longer answered his calls, having completely banished him from her world.
So he was frantic and desperate. He had no choice but to find Gu Yunting, just to provoke him into a frenzy! Perhaps he still had a sliver of hope.
"Whatever happens to you has nothing to do with me. If you have even a shred of guilt in your conscience towards me, please stay out of my life and away from Gu Yunting!" Ye Wanran said and hung up the phone without a second thought.
After scolding him, she felt a bit relieved. She was still worried about Gu Yunting's condition, so she turned and walked upstairs.
Jin Lan examined Gu Yunting briefly. There were no major issues, and some medicine would suffice.
"Are you okay?" Jin Lan looked at him with concern. He knew Gu Yunting's feelings for his father, and how deep they were, which was why the hurt was even more profound.
"What do you mean?" Gu Yunting's eyes were unusually vacant and bewildered. A tearing pain in his chest intensified. The word "father" had always been deeply imprinted in his memory. Everyone thought he had forgotten, but only he knew that the longer time passed, the deeper it became.
When he was a child, his father was busy, but he could feel his father's guidance. It wasn't meticulous, but it pointed him in the right direction, which was enough for a boy.
Why did he suddenly abandon him, abandon everything, and leave? Was there nothing here worth cherishing?
He meant nothing to him!
"Your father is back. Do you have any plans?" Jin Lan asked cautiously. He knew that the return of Gu Yunting's biological father wouldn't be as calm as he appeared, especially with an inconvenient and troublesome younger brother now.
"No plans. He and I... we have no relationship anymore!" Gu Yunting sneered, closing his eyes and saying no more.
Jin Lan: "..."
