Chapter 527 Think I'm Cold-Blooded?

"Not yet," Gu Yunting replied indifferently.

Ye Wan found this answer surprising and asked, "She hasn't been rescued yet, and you've already come back to sleep? Isn't she in danger?"

"Perhaps," Gu Yunting replied, seeming unconcerned about Yan Jiayi's safety.

Ye Wan was now completely awake. She stared at him with wide, shocked eyes.

"What? Think I'm cold-blooded?" Gu Yunting reached out and stroked her hair.

"Don't you like her very much?" Ye Wan blinked and asked.

She felt he treated Yan Jiayi differently.

Hearing this, Gu Yunting lowered his head and bit her lower lip hard. Ye Wan's eyes welled up with tears from the pain. When he released her, she raised a hand to cover her lip.

"I don't like her," Gu Yunting replied calmly.

Ye Wan frowned, clearly disbelieving him.

"Her brother was my brother-in-arms once. He died because of me. Before he left, he asked me to look after his sister, Yan Jiayi. She didn't use this name back then; she had another. She was later recognized by the Yan family," Gu Yunting explained.

Ye Wan understood. So Yan Jiayi's brother had died and entrusted his sister to him.

"After Yan Jiayi's brother died, I discovered some important things. Only he knew about them. So I need to find something from her," Gu Yunting's eyes deepened as he recalled events from three years ago.

Ye Wan finally understood. He meant that to find those things, he had to go through Yan Jiayi.

"But if she's been captured, how will you get the information you want?"

"As long as she doesn't die," Gu Yunting seemed completely indifferent to Yan Jiayi's life or death.

Listening to his cruel words, Ye Wan felt as if Yan Jiayi were not a person but an insignificant stray dog. A strange chill suddenly rose in her heart.

If she were ever captured, would he show the same attitude?

No! It wouldn't be like that! Every time she was in danger, Gu Yunting came to her rescue!

Even if he was harsh towards Yan Jiayi, he had treated her well enough. She only wanted to leave him because of past grievances.

Ye Wan's arms around Gu Yunting suddenly tightened. She looked at him deeply. Gu Yunting frowned and asked, "What? Afraid of me?"

Ye Wan shook her head. "No... You've saved me many times. I'm not afraid of you."

Hearing her words, Gu Yunting's heart softened considerably. He lowered his head, kissed her lips, and said, "Sleep."

Ye Wan obediently closed her eyes. They embraced and slept. For the first time in a long while, Ye Wan slept soundly.

...

Jiang Yan kept pinching herself on the way home. She was afraid she was dreaming. Once she confirmed she wasn't, she burst into happy laughter.

When she returned home, she saw her mother sitting in the living room. Her mother asked as she entered, "Have you eaten?"

"Mom, I have good news to tell you." Jiang Yan ran over excitedly, eager to share the thrilling news with her mother.

"What's made you so happy?" Mother Jiang smiled, seeing her daughter's joy.

"Mom, I won a house in the lottery today! A house! Now our family will have a place to live!" Jiang Yan's smile stretched wide with happiness.

"Are you serious? A house?" Mother Jiang looked at her daughter in astonishment. "It's not a scam, is it?"
