Chapter 331 Can Wishes Truly Come True?

Ye Wan walked over and looked at the small cake on the table. She sat down and tilted her head to look at the man beside her, "Do wishes really come true?"

She had lived for over twenty years, and this was her second birthday. She had made a wish that year too, but it hadn't come true, and reality had plunged her into the abyss.

"Probably," Gu Yunting had intended to say, "Who can say for sure?" But looking at her eyes, filled with a hint of confusion and anticipation, he changed his words.

Reassured, Ye Wan closed her eyes, clasped her hands over her chest, and made a wish with great sincerity. She slowly opened her eyes and blew out the candles.

"What did you wish for?" Gu Yunting asked.

"I hope my brother's surgery is successful and that he'll be healthy and happy from now on." Ye Wan dared not make any grander wishes. She hoped this small wish could come true.

Hearing her wish, Gu Yunting felt a pang of displeasure. Did she only have her brother in her heart?

Ye Wan, oblivious to his change in mood, removed the candles, picked up the knife and fork, cut the cake into four portions, and handed one to Gu Yunting.

"Mm," Gu Yunting responded faintly.

Ye Wan took a slice for herself. She actually loved birthday cakes, but unfortunately, she hadn't managed to have even a bite of the huge cake prepared at the Lin family's that day.

She picked up a fork, carefully scooped up a piece, and put it in her mouth. The sweet, soft, and smooth cream instantly filled her mouth. The girl's eyes lit up, "Try it quickly, this cake is incredibly, unbelievably delicious!"

Ye Wan had never tasted a better cake.

Gu Yunting, not to be outdone, picked up a fork and tried a bite. Although he didn't like sweets, he had to admit the cake tasted excellent.

How could it not be good? This was a cake he had commissioned at great expense, made by an internationally renowned pastry chef. For this small cake, he had flown the chef in from abroad and sent them away afterward. The cost of this single cake was hundreds of thousands.

But Gu Yunting would certainly never reveal these details.

As long as she liked it, that was all that mattered.

Ye Wan quickly finished her slice of cake, her lips lingering with a hint of longing. Her gaze then settled on Gu Yunting's slice.

"Not enough?" Gu Yunting asked, amused, looking at the girl who resembled a little glutton.

Ye Wan nodded, "Are you still eating it? If you're not, can I have it?"

"But there are still two slices left?" Gu Yunting was curious why she didn't eat the other two.

"I wanted to give one slice to Sun Ma and one to the housekeeper."

"So you're trying to take mine?" Gu Yunting's tone was a little stern.

Ye Wan immediately sat up straight and said, "You could have just said no, I don't have to eat it."

Despite her words, the young girl's eyes still darted to the cake in front of the man, clearly showing her desire to eat it.

Gu Yunting, speechless, pushed the cake towards her. Ye Wan's face immediately lit up with a smile. Sun Ma and the housekeeper walked in with dinner.

Ye Wan gave the remaining half to Sun Ma and the housekeeper. Sun Ma happily took the cake, intending to eat it later. The housekeeper, however, was a little surprised. She had thought Ye Wan disliked her.

In fact, the housekeeper had misunderstood Ye Wan. Ye Wan didn't dislike her at all. She didn't dislike anyone who didn't intentionally bully her.

As Ye Wan ate the slice of cake that belonged to Gu Yunting, she couldn't help but sigh at how truly delicious it was. It tasted better and better with every bite. She had eaten her own slice too quickly, devouring it whole, which was a waste.
