Gu Yunting avoided everyone and returned to the Gu residence with Ye Wan. Jin Lan arrived and gave him an IV drip, after which he felt slightly better. He then ordered someone to investigate when Ye Wan and Fu Huaishen had first met.
"You really suspect Ye Wan has some kind of relationship with that Fu fellow?" Jin Lan was somewhat speechless. He was truly blinded by his emotions. Ye Wan came to the Gu residence every day; what kind of relationship could she have with Fu Huaishen?
"She admitted it! She kissed that man!" Gu Yunting felt a sharp pain in his chest just thinking about it.
"Now that you mention it, I recall. Was it Fu Huaishen who went to the hospital to have Ye Wan bandage his wound? That guy was never a decent person to begin with."
"We'll know once we check. Since he went there, there must be traces left behind," Gu Yunting no longer trusted anyone's words; he only believed in evidence.
Before midnight, the bodyguard reported to him that Fu Huaishen had indeed been at the club when Ye Wan was working there. A death had occurred at the club that night, and the perpetrator was never caught. It was likely that Ye Wan and Fu Huaishen had met for the first time then. Later, Fu Huaishen was the one who had broken into Ye Wan's hospital room.
"See? I told you Ye Wan couldn't have anything with that Fu fellow. You're just jealous over nothing, and poor Ye Wan has to suffer for it!" Jin Lan glared at Gu Yunting.
Gu Yunting's brow furrowed. He had indeed lost control today. He had become extremely annoyed by the interaction between Ye Wan and Fu Huaishen and couldn't control his anger. Coupled with the drugged wine, he had hurt her again.
"You're about to get engaged to Lin Feilong, and you still want to marry the woman who drugged you?" Jin Lan asked again.
"It's just an engagement, not a marriage," Gu Yunting replied irritably. Thinking about the injuries he had inflicted on Ye Wan today, he couldn't sit still and got up to leave.
Jin Lan grabbed him, "Where are you going? I told you, don't go see Ye Wan right now. Let her get some good sleep. She needs rest!"
"Let go, I know what I'm doing!" Gu Yunting pushed him away and strode out.
Jin Lan: "..."
...
Gu Yunting arrived at Ye Wan's room. The girl was already asleep. He heard her pained groans. He quickly walked to the bedside, turned on the warm lamp, and looked down to see Ye Wan's face contorted in pain, her forehead covered in cold sweat.
"It hurts... so much... no..." Ye Wan murmured in pain, as if experiencing something terrible in her dream.
Gu Yunting reached out to touch her forehead. Assured she didn't have a fever, he finally relaxed. Thinking of his own roughness earlier, he found a tube of ointment from the nightstand, lifted the blanket, and carefully applied it to her.
The cool ointment on the burning wound finally made Ye Wan feel a little more comfortable. Her tightly furrowed brow slowly relaxed.
Gu Yunting went to the bathroom, wrung out a towel, and wiped her face, hands, and feet. Then, he lay down beside her, pulled the girl into his arms, and closed his eyes.
The next day, Ye Wan woke up feeling that the pain in her body had significantly reduced. Seeing the ointment on the nightstand, she vaguely recalled someone applying medication to her wounds.
She got up, washed herself, and walked out with her bag. Nanny Sun was waiting for her, saying that the young master had instructed her to have breakfast as soon as she woke up.
Ye Wan didn't want to see Gu Yunting at all right now. Nanny Sun practically dragged her over. Gu Yunting was reading the newspaper and only put it down when she entered, ordering breakfast to be served.
Ye Wan's lips were already scabbed, and any movement would cause them to bleed. She didn't feel like eating. Gu Yunting cut the steak in front of him into very small pieces and placed them before her. "Eat."
