"Mm," Gu Yunting responded indifferently.
"What did you do today?" Gu Yunting asked.
"Worked. What else could I do?"
"If you're short on cash, I can pay you a salary."
Gu Yunting recalled how much she had done for the Gu residence when the former housekeeper was around. He remembered one instance vividly: the housekeeper had asked her to hand-wash all the curtains in the Gu residence, forbidding her from using warm water even in the dead of winter. She had eventually collapsed from exhaustion, and no one had paid her any mind.
"I don't have time for that now. I'll take on part-time jobs when I can," Ye Wan shook her head. She refused to accept charity; she wanted to earn her own money.
Without waiting for Gu Yunting to say more, Ye Wan went into the kitchen, took out some dried noodles and three eggs, and began to prepare the meal. She rolled up her sleeves, revealing a section of her arm as fair and smooth as jade. A small, red mole on her forearm stood out vividly against her pale skin, making one's gaze linger.
Two bowls of noodles were soon ready. Following Gu Yunting's request, two eggs were added. Ye Wan found one egg sufficient for herself. Gu Yunting, however, looked at the two eggs in his bowl and felt a sense of unease.
As Ye Wan was about to eat, he said, "This is boring to eat like this. Go get a small dish of side dishes."
Ye Wan: "..." This young master is so demanding!
She got up and went to the refrigerator to get some side dishes. There were already pre-prepared pickled vegetables inside. She brought out two small plates.
After sitting down, Ye Wan picked up an egg to eat. Gu Yunting suddenly said, "Why do you have an egg, and I don't?"
Ye Wan: "?"
She looked at his bowl and indeed, there were no eggs left. But she had clearly made him two fried eggs.
"That's impossible. There were two just now? Where did the eggs go?" Ye Wan tilted her head from side to side, searching, and finally her gaze landed on the trash can beside the man.
Gu Yunting raised his hand, pushing her head away, and demanded, "Share half with me!"
Ye Wan: "!"
She glared angrily at the man who looked utterly entitled. He had clearly had two eggs! And he still insisted on fighting her for her single one!
He was truly lacking in gentlemanly conduct!
Ye Wan resigned herself to it, broke off half of her egg, and quickly ate her portion.
Gu Yunting: "..."
This time, the division was obvious: one large half and one small half. She got the larger one, and he got the smaller one.
Noticing the girl's small trick, he said nothing and lowered his head to eat. It seemed like from now on, it would be best to only have one egg at home; sharing it would be more enjoyable.
He had forgotten that he was the one who had asked her to put two eggs in his bowl next time.
After finishing the noodles, Ye Wan cleaned up the bowls and was wiping the table when she saw two eggs lying in the trash can!
Ye Wan looked shocked. He would rather throw the eggs away than share his half with her? How truly wicked was this person!
That night, Gu Yunting came to Ye Wan's room to spend the night. Ye Wan was truly exhausted and said she wanted to sleep and didn't want to move.
Gu Yunting bit her through her clothes and scoffed, "When have you ever been the one doing the moving? It's always me."
Ye Wan: "..."
"How about we let Miss Lin move into the Gu residence? Then she can share half of the burden with me," Ye Wan suggested earnestly.
Gu Yunting's movements suddenly froze. He looked at her, his eyes forced wide and red, as if he couldn't believe what he was hearing, "What did you say?"
"I said let your future..." Before Ye Wan could finish her sentence, Gu Yunting fiercely bit her mouth, silencing her completely.
Ye Wan found it incredibly exasperating. Hadn't he asked her to repeat herself?
