"I really don't know," the person in charge reminded. "A call just came from upstairs. You can think about it yourself, who among the people you know has this kind of ability?"
Jiang Mu genuinely couldn't think of anyone she knew who could have accomplished what happened today.
Yet, she had a feeling that the person who helped from behind the scenes was the key to saving the Jiang family!
Jiang Yan was feeling incredibly unwell. She had only recently had a miscarriage, and after being beaten, she had been soaked in cold water for so long. Now, she couldn't feel anything in her lower limbs. The autumn water was already chillingly cold.
When Jin Lan arrived, he saw Jiang Yan looking as if she was about to faint, her face deathly pale, and her lips devoid of any color.
Jiang Yan was very surprised when she saw him. She immediately stood up, "Did you help my family?"
"It wasn't me. Ye Wan pleaded with Gu Yunting, and he sent me to help. I'm just following orders," Jin Lan's expression was very indifferent, and his tone was extremely stern.
Jiang Yan moved her lips, "Thank you anyway."
Jiang Mu returned at that moment and happened to overhear her daughter's conversation with this stranger. She felt more at ease. Walking in, she asked, "Yan Yan, who is this gentleman?"
"Mom, this is Jin Lan. He helped us this time. Ye Wan was the one who asked him for help," Jiang Yan knew her mother used to dislike Ye Wan and wanted to change her mother's perception of Ye Wan.
Jiang Mu now regretted her past attitude towards Ye Wan, but this was not the time to discuss it. She immediately walked over to express her gratitude to Jin Lan.
Jin Lan's gaze swept over Jiang Yan. After a few perfunctory words, he left. Her condition had nothing to do with him.
Jiang Mu's gaze also turned to her daughter. When she saw her daughter's terribly sallow face, she was startled. "Yan Yan, why do you look so unwell? Oh my god, are you sick? That water was so cold. For a young lady to be soaked for so long is dangerous!"
"Mom, I'm fine," Jiang Yan shook her head. In reality, she was struggling to endure the discomfort, but she didn't want to appear vulnerable in front of Jin Lan.
Jiang Mu pulled her along and asked Jin Lan if he could find them a place to change their clothes, take a shower, and then take her daughter to see a doctor.
Jin Lan indifferently told the mother and daughter to get into the car. They smoothly left the scene and found a hotel, where he opened a room for them to shower and change.
Only after the hot water poured over her did Jiang Yan feel alive again. She took a simple hot shower, changed into clean clothes, and walked out.
When she came out, her mother had already done so. Jiang Yan suspected her mother hadn't even showered. She saw her mother talking to Jin Lan with a fawning expression, as if her mother were a servant and Jin Lan a high and mighty king.
Jiang Yan felt a pang of unease in her heart.
"This was truly an undeserved disaster. I don't know how much suffering Yan Yan's father will endure," Jiang Mu said.
"Compared to those who perished in the fire, at least you are alive," Jin Lan replied indifferently.
Jiang Mu felt ashamed upon hearing this. Jiang Yan, however, became anxious and rushed forward, saying, "We know we made mistakes, and our family will do our best to atone. My mother is just worried about my father's illness. He has high blood pressure and heart disease; he needs medication daily."
Jiang Yan's voice choked with emotion as she said this.
Jiang Mu immediately pulled her daughter back, preventing her from saying more. "Mr. Jin, you are magnanimous. Children can be thoughtless; please don't hold it against her."
