Chapter 2 The System That Almost Crashed

The system had not finished loading yet, so Qin Shilei shifted his attention to outside the building.

Cries, shouts, and calls for help interwove into a cacophony.

Behind the balcony was a road leading to the teaching building, now a scene of apocalyptic devastation.

Three students, fortunate enough not to have turned into zombies, were being pursued and bitten by seven or eight of their classmates who had already become the undead.

Though their movements were somewhat stiff, these zombies were by no means slow. They quickly caught up with a girl running at the back.

They latched onto her and bit at her neck.

The girl screamed and struggled, but soon she was bleeding profusely, her cries fading into silence.

"Mom, where are you now?"

"Okay, stay at home, I'll be back soon."

"I'll be fine, you must lock all doors and windows."

Hearing her mother was safe, An Qian breathed a sigh of relief. She hung up the phone and intended to push herself out of bed and rush home.

Qin Shilei quickly stopped her. "Hey, shouldn't you calm down?"

"How far is your home from here?"

"In this situation, are you sure you can get home safely?"

"I'm afraid you won't see your mother again the moment you step outside."

An Qian raised her hand, pointing her long sword at Qin Shilei, and said coldly, "Get out of the way. My mom is alone. If I don't go back, what will happen to her?"

Qin Shilei moved to the left, clearing the path, and prepared to shut the door immediately.

This was her choice. With no kin or friends, one attempt at persuasion was enough.

When she dies, he would keep her sword.

"Wuwuwu!"

An Qian didn't rush out in the end, but tears flowed down her cheeks uncontrollably.

Her home was in another city, over a hundred kilometers away.

If she went out now, she might not even make it out of campus before dying.

Qin Shilei glanced at the long sword in her hand and walked towards the balcony again.

The girl who had been bitten downstairs stood up again, walking aimlessly.

As expected, being bitten by a zombie led to becoming one.

He looked at the system in his mind.

It was still starting up.

Only a number, no progress bar.

Would this cheat be cleared as a virus?

Qin Shilei became very uneasy, not even bothering to explore the game interface in the top left corner.

"Ding, startup error, initiating restart."

"God, don't scare me."

Qin Shilei prayed to all the deities in his heart.

Five minutes later, the system finally showed some change.

"Ding, All Things Attribute Refresh System successfully launched."

"Currently, there are five refreshes per day, with three fixed attributes."

"Each refresh will present three alternative attributes."

"Fixed attributes, once refreshed, require double the refresh count to be refreshed again."

"For the same item, multiple refreshes within a day will consume more refresh counts."

"Item advancement will increase the number of attributes."

"Phew!"

The system finally started up, and Qin Shilei breathed a sigh of relief.

Now, to figure out how to get a weapon.

He looked up and saw An Qian holding her sword in one hand and her phone in the other, talking to her mother.

There was still a signal.

After An Qian finally hung up the phone, he introduced himself, "My name is Qin Shilei, may I ask your name?"

"An Qian," An Qian replied coldly, with just two words.

Although she now understood that he wasn't a pervert, he had indeed taken advantage of her.

Not beating him up was already being lenient, so she wouldn't give him a good look.

Qin Shilei didn't care about her attitude and shamelessly asked, "Are there any defensive items left in your dormitory?"

An Qian looked up at Qin Shilei, remaining silent for a long time.

Qin Shilei's heart leaped with joy.

She had something, she just wasn't willing to give it to him.

Before he could appeal to her emotions or reason with her, there was a creak, and the door was pushed open a crack, revealing a hand with bulging veins.

Qin Shilei quickly stepped forward and held the door shut with all his might.

A gust of wind blew by, and a cold gleam flashed.

With a splash of dark, foul blood, the hand fell to the ground.

Bang, bang, bang!

The zombie with its hand cut off was still banging on the door.

"I'll open a gap in the door to let some zombies in, you attack with your sword."

Qin Shilei greatly admired her precision and bravery and spoke directly.

After An Qian nodded in agreement, he moved the bed back, leaving a gap of twenty to thirty centimeters.

First, a left hand with a severed forearm reached in, followed by half of a pale face with bleeding orifices.

"Roar, roar."

The dorm supervisor, an old woman, with her monstrous mouth wide open, tried her best to squeeze inside.

*Puff!*

A stream of black blood gushed out as An Qian severed the dorm supervisor's head with her sword.

Good sword!

Good swordsmanship!

It seemed she had indeed practiced.

Qin Shilei was very glad he hadn't thought of subduing her from the start, otherwise, he might not have been able to defeat a bare-handed An Qian.

Looking at the disgusting zombie head, Qin Shilei felt like throwing up.

He turned to see An Qian also gagging, holding onto the wood.

Suppressing his nausea, he moved the bed back to block the door securely. Turning around, he found that An Qian had recovered and was taking a long sword from the closet.

"How about this? If you agree to one condition, I'll give it to you."

An Qian raised the sword in her hand.

"Accompany you home? I'm afraid I have to decline."

Qin Shilei frowned and refused directly.

The game system had said that survival was the only goal.

He was just a shut-in, panting heavily after running upstairs. How could he help anyone?

"No, I saw you handle things quite well just now. I hope to fight zombies with you."

An Qian shook her head and explained.

"That's no problem. Not only are you beautiful, but you're also brave and efficient when killing zombies. You're a heroic woman!"

Qin Shilei happily accepted the long sword.

When the boss took the lead, it would be foolish not to agree.

Seeing him take the sword, An Qian showed a hint of a smile.

"So you agree. Then the responsibility of luring monsters will be yours."

"Luring monsters? Aren't you just looking for a cannon fodder?"

"We're teammates. It's just that I've practiced martial arts since I was a child and believe I'm more suited for offense, so you'll have to be the one to lure monsters."

"Offense is fine too, but don't expect me to be cannon fodder and die."

"Of course, we're teammates."

As soon as they agreed, Qin Shilei eagerly drew the long sword in his hand.

He frowned and asked, "Why isn't it sharpened?"

An Qian explained, "This is what I use for practice at school, so it's not sharpened. If you don't want it, give it back to me."

She paused and added, "How about we split the crystal cores from the zombies?"

Qin Shilei thought for a moment and put away the long sword.

An unsharpened sword was still better than bare hands.

If she turned out to be unreliable, they would go their separate ways.

A team with little trust was temporarily formed.

"Now that you have a weapon, are you going to go kill zombies with me?"

An Qian was eager to obtain more crystal cores to improve her strength and be able to go home to find her mother.

"We need to plan this carefully. Please wait for now."

Qin Shilei took the long sword into the bathroom.

His gaze lingered on the original lace in the bucket for three seconds, then Qin Shilei shifted his attention to the long sword in his hand.

Name: Long Sword

Quality: Ordinary

Attribute: Hand-safe

Description: This is an unsharpened long sword, very safe.

"Do you wish to refresh attributes?"

"Refresh."

Immediately, three circles of light, one white, one blue, and one green, appeared on the long sword.

Attribute quality ranks: Ordinary (White), Fine (Blue), Rare (Green), Excellent (Red), Epic (Purple), Legendary (Orange), Mythic (Gold).

He clicked on the white circle.

Sharpness: Ordinary grade, slightly increases the sharpness of the long sword.

He then clicked on the blue circle.

Dazzling: Emits colorful brilliance when swung, extremely gorgeous.

Are you sure this isn't a joke? What use is such brilliance for a sword?

Green circle.

Feather-cutting Blade: Rare grade sharpness, guaranteed to satisfy you.

Qin Shilei chose the green circle without hesitation.

A flash of green light, and a treasure sword radiating cold light appeared in his hand.

He stabbed it into the wall, penetrating twenty to thirty centimeters deep.

It should be comparable to An Qian's sword, and perhaps even superior.

"I'll call you Seven Stars Sword from now on," Qin Shilei named his sword.

He still had two chances to refresh attributes.

All Things Attributes, could he refresh himself?

Name: Qin Shilei

Level: Plastic One Star

Experience: 0/10

Cultivation Method: None

"Do you wish to refresh attributes?"

"Refresh."

He could really refresh himself. As Qin Shilei's thought moved, two white and one blue circle appeared on him.
