Chapter 344: Chapter 339: Apocalypse Sisters
"Ye Dong, what a coincidence. Are you also looking for the Mutated Vine? I just took on this task, let’s pair up and work together!" Just two days after leaving the base, Ye Dong ran into Leo, who was deliberately following her. This guy had no sense of shame; no matter how coldly Ye Dong treated him, he shamelessly stuck around.
"Leo, I’ve already told you not to follow me. I’m not going to like you, and if you interfere with the task, I won’t be polite to you." Ye Dong’s gaze was icy, and the pressure around her surged, as if the air itself was about to freeze.
This was the first time she used her superpower to intimidate someone. Leo felt as though his blood was about to freeze, the smile on his face stiffened, and his heart sank with a mix of frustration and resentment. He had humbled himself so much, why couldn’t she be moved? How could such a young girl be so heartless?
Ye Dong glared at him as she led her team forward. Her superpower was much stronger than Leo’s, not by a small margin. Soon, the pesky Leo who was so insistent on following her was left behind. Since he was so eager to follow, let him deal with the bothersome Zombies!
"Captain, there’s a large Mutated Vine ahead." Along the way to Jiang Province, Ying Yiming and his team encountered trouble. In order to hasten their journey, they took a shortcut, but with it came increased danger.
"Kill it." Ying Yiming ordered decisively. The Hu Province Base placed great importance on the green Crystal Core; it must have unique value.
Meanwhile, Ye Dong and her team were also heading in this direction. The nearby Mutated Vines had already been mostly cleared, and here, there were not only Mutated Vines but also other mutant plants and mutant animals.
What’s that?
Ying Yiming felt a gaze on him while he was cutting down the Mutated Vine, and vigilantly looked into the depths of the woods.
As they reached the latter stages of fighting the Mutated Vine, Ying Yiming noticed that gaze becoming increasingly dangerous. However, if they stopped now, the Mutated Vine would undoubtedly counterattack, and he did not want to fall short of completing the task.
"Roar!" The moment the Mutated Vine died, a huge Mutated Tiger emerged from the forest. This tiger was completely different from the ones you’d find in zoos before the apocalypse.
Ying Yiming estimated that it was at least three meters tall and seven to eight meters long. Its stripes were clearly defined in black and yellow, and its fur was like needles. Its tail was tensed, ready to attack.
Just with one glance, Ying Yiming sensed immense danger, and now, this threat had set its sights on him.
"Captain," Zhao Guanghua’s breath quieted. The fact that the tiger could walk out of a forest full of mutant plants unscathed proved its extraordinary nature. They had seen many mutant animals and even some in the base trained as combat partners. However, this was the first time Zhao Guanghua had encountered a Mutated Tiger that gave off such a strong sense of danger.
"It seems to have targeted us." Another team member swallowed hard, feeling his legs going weak.
"Roar!" Before Ying Yiming and his team could react, the Mutated Tiger pounced fiercely. Its speed was incredibly fast, and, unlike an ordinary tiger, it was capable of making sharp turns. One of the team members didn’t dodge in time and was struck by the tiger’s tail.
"Ah!" The team member screamed in pain, his body bloodied on one side.
Ying Yiming’s expression hardened: "Be careful, don’t let it touch you." As he spoke, a golden light shone from his hand, but his normally invincible Gold Element Superpower failed to display its power against the Mutated Tiger. The attack hit the tiger and produced a metallic clang, leaving only a scratch.
Ying Yiming’s complexion changed. This Mutated Tiger also possessed Gold Element Superpower, and it’s very likely that he was its target.
Not only humans can absorb the Crystal Cores of Zombies, mutant animals, and mutant plants. They can also absorb human Crystal Cores. Research in the base had shown that, aside from ordinary people, Superpower Users have an energy-concentrating object in their heads much like Zombies, which can also be absorbed by Zombies.
This Mutated Tiger must have sensed his Gold Element Superpower, so it wanted to evolve by devouring his Crystal Core.
Ying Yiming’s face looked rather unpleasant, never having thought that one day he too would become someone else’s food, especially when the other party was stronger than him.
"Roar!" The Mutated Tiger spat out a beam of golden light, turning the soil nearby into metal.
Ying Yiming swiftly dodged and, with the help of his teammates, rose to midair. The military knife in his hand was enveloped in a layer of sharp golden glow, and he aimed it at the Mutated Tiger’s back.
The Mutated Tiger sensed Ying Yiming’s move but instead of evading, it lashed out fiercely with its tail.
The military knife clashed with the tiger’s tail, causing a numbing pain in Ying Yiming’s hands.
But the Mutated Tiger didn’t give him a chance to react and charged at him again. Immediately a teammate raised an Earth Wall, and Ying Yiming had to roll to the side quickly to avoid the attack.
By the time Ye Dong arrived at the sound of the fight, he saw Ying Yiming’s team in a sorry state. The Mutated Tiger was clearly still at ease, but his team was either injured or exhausted, obviously no match for the Mutated Tiger.
"Lend a hand, and you’ll be richly rewarded," Ying Yiming quickly said to Ye Dong and his group.
When Ye Dong saw the corpse of a Mutated Vine nearby, he launched an ice spike at the Mutated Tiger: "I’ll be taking the Crystal Core from this Mutated Vine as well as all the Crystal Cores you have. Additionally, you’ll have to find me three more Mutated Vines of this size."
What Ye Dong said could be considered taking advantage of their predicament, but Ying Yiming had no position to bargain. Their lives were at stake, what more could be more important?
"No problem," Ying Yiming agreed to her terms without any hesitation.
After the agreement was reached, Ye Dong and his team joined the fight. Those he had brought with him were all experts from the base, and since they hadn’t exhausted their superpowers in battle before, their participation immediately gave Ying Yiming’s team a chance to breathe.
Finally having a moment to spare, Ying Yiming took a good look at Ye Dong. Wasn’t this Ye Dong, the leader of Hu Province Base? Was she out here looking for Mutated Vines?
And upon seeing Ye Dong in action, he finally understood why the Superpower Users of Hu Province Base were willing to follow a woman as their leader. Her superpower was even more formidable than his own!
Moreover, each of her moves targeted the vital points of the Mutated Tiger, never wasting an ounce of energy. Her combat experience was second to none.
As he watched, Ying Yiming’s awe of Ye Dong turned into admiration.
Due to Leo’s persistent pestering in normal times, Ye Dong wasn’t at all pleased with Ying Yiming’s gaze, and she even felt a bit annoyed: "Mister, I agreed to help you, not to have you stand aside and watch the show."
"Sorry." Ying Yiming redirected his gaze and then seriously coordinated with Ye Dong’s attack.
"Roar!" Because of Ye Dong’s attack causing wounds, the Mutated Tiger turned its primary target to Ye Dong. Every strand of its fur stood on end, harder than steel needles.
