Capítulo 719: Chapter 719: A Close Call
Li Yufei: “I hear gunshots, it seems like they’re inside the venue! Did no one hear them?”
Rong Ling: “The music is too loud, the audience is too hyped up, it’s normal not to hear anything.”
Li Yufei: “For such a large event, how did someone manage to bring firearms through security and into the venue?”
Rong Ling gritted his teeth: “This is the United States…”
Not long ago, there was a shooting incident in another state.
The United States does not ban guns, but for such a large music festival, security should be very strict, who knows…
Before he could finish speaking, there were more successive gunshots.
Rong Ling suddenly recognized the sound, it’s the gunfire from an AK47!
The sound engineer finally noticed something was wrong!
They received a radio message saying someone is firing into the crowd and requested the music be stopped immediately. The sound engineer quickly cut the music and the staff went on stage to protect the singer and escort them off.
The music abruptly stopped, and the “da-da-da” sound of gunshots from not far away became unmistakably clear!
“It’s gunshots!”
“What’s happening!?”
“Ah—! Run!”
“Someone’s shooting, firing into the crowd! Run, quickly!”
In the crowd, there were relentless cries of agony, some were hit by bullets, some bullets pierced through heads, some hit shoulders, some pierced through chests, for a moment, blood and darkness shrouded the spacious square!
People around were slow to react, and then started screaming frantically.
People were scared stiff and retreated like the tide!
Li Yufei looked towards the stage.
A bald man suddenly jumped onto the stage, carrying several guns on his back, a belt of bullets hanging, and holding an AK47, he started firing wildly into the crowd!
She instinctively wanted to squat down, but Rong Ling suddenly pulled her: “Don’t squat!”
He knew she wanted to dodge the bullets, but with so many people rushing towards one exit, if she squatted down now, she might not be hit by bullets but might be trampled to death by the panicked crowd.
As the front-row audience fell from getting hit, the crowd fell into great panic and despair!
Everyone feared they might be the next victim!
There were so many people in the square, each one a living target!
But who can be certain who will be the unfortunate target?
This seemed like a premeditated antisocial attack!
Lately, the world’s financial instability had left Americans facing a catastrophic unemployment crisis, many unemployed people were homeless, sleeping on streets, and some extremists retaliated against society with indiscriminate attacks.
Hence, shootings were frequent.
Rong Ling tightly held Li Yufei’s hand, moving with the crowd towards the exit.
However, soon enough, the two got separated by the surging crowd!
“Rong Ling!”
Li Yufei felt like someone drowning, struggling in the vast sea of people, constantly looking around: “Rong Ling, where are you?!”
She kept searching through the crowd, unwilling to fixate in one direction, fearing the slightest overlook, constantly scanning all around.
“Whoosh!”
A bullet zipped past her head with a fierce rush of air, leaving her drenched in cold sweat!
The next second, hot blood splattered all over her.
The bullet skimmed her head, piercing through the neck of a woman in front of her, who collapsed onto her.
Li Yufei was almost knocked down to the ground, instinctively pushing the woman off, who helplessly fell at her feet and was soon trampled mercilessly by the coming surge of people.
She couldn’t see where the woman fell, swept forward by the crowd.
“Rong Ling!”
Worried that Rong Ling was in danger, with no response, she grew more and more anxious, her voice carrying a hint of sobbing.
At that moment.
The stage lights extinguished, plunging the square into a deathly silence and darkness!
Everyone screamed, panicked, horrific cries, around her, a chaos of sounds.
She was shoved, pushed, helplessly looking around, seeing every terrified face, scrutinizing those anxious expressions, occasionally, someone fell, never to rise again.
In a living hell!
Just then, a hand reached through the crowd and grabbed her wrist: “Yufei!”
Li Yufei looked in the direction of the voice, Rong Ling broke through the crowd and stood before her: “Don’t be afraid.”
He clasped her hand tighter, shoving through the crowd, running towards the exit.
She closely followed him, not knowing why, looking at his broad back, like a solid wall standing in front of her, she felt a sudden sense of safety.
As if with him around, this world would never collapse.
At the exit.
Rong Ling finally pulled Li Yufei out, daring not to stop, until they reached a tree, where he securely shielded her, holding her in his arms, gently stroking her hair.
“It’s okay now.”
He knitted his brow, examining the surroundings.
All the escaped people acted like headless chickens outside the exit, some crying, some slumped in dazed silence, some taking out phones, calling the police…
Anyhow… utter chaos.
Li Yufei, still shaken, quickly calmed down, but the feeling was like a dream, still a nightmare.
Rong Ling cupped her face, seeing her pale complexion, heart aching: “I’m sorry…”
He nearly lost her.
Frightened, thinking back to the time when he didn’t hold her tight, had she been trampled to the ground by the crowd… the thought was terrifying!
While walking towards the exit, at any moment, seeing someone fall to the ground, being trampled to the point of vomiting blood.
Also easily visible, amidst jostling and pushing, some fell into railings, their shoulders pierced by sharp spikes!
Too terrifying!
Inside the venue, the gunshots seemed to have stopped.
Police had arrived.
Red and blue lights illuminated half the night sky.
Li Yufei caught a glimpse from the corner of her eye, seeing his arm bleeding, slightly surprised: “What happened to your hand?”
Rong Ling: “I don’t know.”
If not for her noticing, he wouldn’t have realized he was even injured.
Rong Ling: “I don’t know what cut it.”
Due to adrenaline, he felt no pain.
Li Yufei said: “It was really a close call.”
Quickly calming down, “Let’s go to the hospital and get the wound bandaged.”
Rong Ling said: “The closest hospital will certainly be overcrowded, I’ve seen many people injured. My wound isn’t severe, let’s drive towards the apartment and find a hospital nearby instead.”
Li Yufei swallowed and nodded: “Okay.”
She also noticed his wound wasn’t deep, so there was no need for urgent treatment.
The two headed towards the parking lot.
Li Yufei suddenly thought of something: “What about your friend?”
Rong Ling: “I don’t know, it’s so chaotic here, my phone is missing too.”
Li Yufei checked and her phone was still with her: “Want to call him?”
Rong Ling: “Do you think I remember his number?”
Li Yufei chuckled lightly.
Rong Ling: “I can’t care about him now, I’m sure he can take care of himself. Anyway, let’s get out of this nightmare.”
