Chapter 624: Chapter 624: The Best Home I’ve Ever Lived In
Rong Ling originally felt embarrassed to stay for dinner.
But the hospitality was difficult to refuse.
Lin Qi could see that he hadn’t eaten and was quite hungry, so she insisted he have dinner before leaving.
Rong Ling no longer felt it was polite to decline.
After dinner, Rong Ling left with Rong Xiaoyi.
Momo and Han held Yinyin and walked to the door to bid them farewell with Lin Qi.
Rong Ling picked up Rong Xiaoyi and said to her, “Xiaoyi, say goodbye to Aunt Lin Qi.”
Rong Xiaoyi couldn’t help but feel a bit reluctant to leave.
She had never met anyone as kind as Lin Qi, Momo, and Han before.
Even Yinyin, who was such a small baby and completely innocent, knew to give her a beloved doll as a gift.
Rong Xiaoyi really liked them and felt that their whole family were good people.
Good people are really hard to find these days.
In today’s society, indifference is more common, and people prefer to mind their own business rather than waste their kindness.
But Aunt Lin Qi was such a gentle person.
Rong Xiaoyi had little concept of a mother since her mom had been constantly abused by her father, left home early, and remarried,
so she had no strong impression of maternal love.
If…
she could have a gentle mother like Lin Qi, she would definitely be happy!
Rong Ling left with Rong Xiaoyi in his arms.
They walked to the door.
The sky had darkened.
Due to malnutrition, Rong Xiaoyi had a serious corneal perforation, with a risk of partial detachment, so her night vision was poor. Rong Ling carried her without putting her down.
Rong Xiaoyi asked, “Brother, why did you come to pick me up so late today?”
Rong Ling said, “Xiaoyi, I’m sorry, today I went for an interview for a new job.”
As he said this, he saw an empty taxi approaching from a distance and raised his hand to hail it.
Rong Ling got into the car with Rong Xiaoyi and gave the address to the dorm, then said to Rong Xiaoyi, “Xiaoyi, we’re moving.”
Those debt collectors had probably found their door by now, so they couldn’t return to their current place and needed to move quickly.
There were still some things at home that hadn’t been packed, but it wasn’t urgent.
Rong Ling was worried that if he carried Xiaoyi back to pack their luggage at this critical time, they would run into those ruthless debt collectors. So, he decided to take Xiaoyi to the dorm first, and he’d find a time later to go back alone and pack their things.
Rong Xiaoyi asked, “Where are we moving to?”
Rong Ling: “The company has assigned me a new dormitory. The environment there is very nice, and we’ll live there from now on. But…”
But Xiaoyi might need to transfer schools.
The new dorm is far from her school, so he planned to help Xiaoyi with the school transfer process.
Rong Xiaoyi said excitedly, “Great! We’re moving to a new home!”
Hearing that they were moving to a new home, Xiaoyi was very happy, dancing with joy, and didn’t forget to ask, “Brother, what’s the new home like? Does it have sunlight?”
Rong Ling said, “Yes. The new home not only gets sunlight but you can also have a bed of your own.”
Before this, he and Xiaoyi had always shared one room and one bed.
He didn’t mind, but Xiaoyi, after all, was a girl, mature for her age compared to other girls, and she gradually developed a sense of gender and needed her own independent space.
Now the conditions finally allowed for it.
The dorm is a one-bedroom with a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
He studied it closely; the bedroom has only one bed. Although the space is limited, it can still fit a desk and a small wardrobe.
He planned to redecorate, setting up the bedroom for Xiaoyi.
As for himself, he would make the living room his space.
He planned to go to the furniture store tomorrow to find a multifunctional sofa bed, which could be a sofa when folded and a bed when unfolded.
The bathroom is quite large and has a dry-wet separation, which makes things much more convenient.
The most pleasant surprise for him is that the kitchen is also quite large, clean and tidy, so he could buy groceries and have time to cook for Xiaoyi, to improve her nutrition.
The car soon arrived at their destination.
Rong Ling carried Xiaoyi to the dormitory door, took out the key, and awkwardly opened the door.
“Click.”
The light flickered and then turned on.
Rong Ling gently placed Xiaoyi on the floor.
Rong Xiaoyi stood at the doorway, gazing at the bright and clean new home, her eyes sparkling: “What a beautiful house!”
It’s just a simple employee dormitory, but to Rong Xiaoyi, it’s a “mansion!”
At least, it’s clean and tidy, without mice, cockroaches, or bugs flying around!
Rong Xiaoyi walked into the living room in a daze, looking around.
Rong Ling closed the door and walked inside: “From now on, this is our new home.”
Rong Xiaoyi asked, “How long will we live here?”
Rong Ling said, “Theoretically, we can live here indefinitely.”
There’s the chance that he might have other prospects in the future.
Rong Xiaoyi worriedly asked, “Will the landlord kick us out again?”
Rong Ling said, “As long as I keep working at this company, we won’t be kicked out.”
Rong Xiaoyi exclaimed happily, “That’s awesome!”
She turned around, walked to the balcony door, and opened it.
The balcony was open-air but had a simple safety net installed, so clothes could be dried.
There was a bedroom on the east side of the living room, facing south, with a large window.
Rong Xiaoyi stood at the door of the room, looking at the already-made bed, feeling momentarily hesitant.
Rong Ling walked up behind her and spoke softly, “Xiaoyi, would you like this to be your room from now on?”
After a pause, he added, “Your own room.”
Rong Xiaoyi asked, “Where will Brother sleep?”
Rong Ling: “I’ll sleep in the living room.”
Rong Xiaoyi: “But there’s no bed in the living room.”
Rong Ling said, “Tomorrow, I’ll buy a bed that can be folded into a sofa and unfolded into a bed. From now on, I’ll sleep in the living room, and you will have this room.”
Rong Xiaoyi: “Wow… This is the best house I’ve ever lived in!”
Hearing this, Rong Ling unexpectedly felt a sense of heartache.
He squatted down, gently holding Xiaoyi’s hand, and said word by word, “Xiaoyi, don’t worry, I’ll make sure you live in even better houses.”
Rong Xiaoyi, moved, hugged his shoulders: “Brother, thank you for your hard work.”
Even though she’s young, she’s actually very clear in her heart.
Although she and Rong Ling have the same father, they weren’t born from the same mother.
Brother didn’t have to care for her.
If it weren’t for her, Brother would have had better prospects.
If Brother could have finished college, maybe he would now be pursuing higher qualifications, doing a master’s or a doctorate, and certainly making a mark in the world when he eventually started working.
If it weren’t for her…
So, she was already very content.
