"Little Junior Sister, let's go see who this great demon is!"
Nangong Luo led Chu Lingwei towards the battlefield, while Su Yan unleashed his magical artifacts incessantly.
Since it was a great demon, it had to die.
"Let's go."
"Want to leave? No way."
Su Yan and Nangong Luo, seeing the opposing party attempting to escape, snorted coldly and attacked simultaneously.
The combined might of two cultivators in the Rongtian realm and over a dozen seventh-tier spirit beasts was not for show. Vast spiritual energy engulfed the opponents.
Chu Lingwei, riding atop a Wind Chaser Beast, marveled at the scene. What was this? It was a one-sided slaughter.
No wonder their Master sent the two Senior Brothers to hunt great demons. Their strength was more terrifying than cultivators in the Huatian realm.
"Damn it, they actually escaped."
Nangong Luo and the others landed, seeing that among the remaining two, one was dead and the other severely injured.
"Speak, who is your master? Where is he?" Nangong Luo crouched before the injured man, a surge of spiritual energy controlling his soul, preventing him from self-destructing.
Chu Lingwei quickly stepped forward. When she saw the man's face, her heart sank.
This was one of the four subordinates of that young master from two years ago, a Huatian realm expert.
Her guess was correct.
That great demon was the very man who had nearly killed her.
The man's lips were tightly sealed, refusing to speak. Whether he spoke or not, death was inevitable.
"Heh, truly stubborn." Nangong Luo chuckled and looked at Su Yan. "Third Junior Brother, let's see how long he can remain stubborn."
Su Yan summoned a spirit insect, the size of a fingernail, from his spirit beast pouch. The insect seemed to catch the scent of a dying person's blood and burrowed directly into the man's nostrils.
"No need to struggle, you can't anyway. It especially loves to feed on souls. In less than three breaths, your soul will dissipate." Nangong Luo said with a cruel smile. "I wonder if your great demon master will use a secret technique to let you cultivate the ghost path anew."
A flicker of change appeared in the man's eyes. Human cultivators, upon death, could potentially cultivate the ghost path if their souls were sufficiently resilient.
He was a Huatian realm expert; transitioning to the ghost path was not difficult.
"Tell us, what is your master's name?" Nangong Luo believed no one wanted to vanish into nothingness. The stronger one was, the more unwilling they were to die.
"I don't know." The searing pain in his soul forced the man to speak. "Just kill me."
Nangong Luo's laughter grew louder. "Alternatively, tell me, what is his relationship with the Renyan Sect?"
The man's soul experienced excruciating pain. Hearing Nangong Luo's words unguardedly made his eyes widen in shock.
Indeed, that man was hidden within the Renyan Sect.
"Kill him."
Su Yan stood up, his thin lips parting slightly. A mark had been placed on this person's soul, preventing him from divulging any information about his master.
Nangong Luo stood up and collected the two corpses. He needed to investigate their identities.
"Let's go." Such a commotion would surely attract attention.
Chu Lingwei sat on a flying sword with them. Now, she was certain these were the same individuals she had encountered in the Ten Thousand Miles Forest.
"If that person is truly a great demon, why would he conceal his cultivation?" Chu Lingwei had exchanged blows with Zuo Aoran. His abilities were terrifying, yet his spiritual energy still seemed to be at the Linglun realm.
"Demons, like human cultivators, also need to cultivate step by step to increase their power." Su Yan's expression was calm as he cast a concealment barrier around them. "Perhaps he is targeting the Hundred Year Grand Competition."
"If he intends to participate in the Hundred Year Grand Competition, he shouldn't be this high-profile?"
The entire Xuantian Continent was searching for him. Either he was very strong, or he had no choice.
"I rather think he has another reason." The thought of Zuo Aoran searching for female cultivators resembling her made Chu Lingwei eager to find him.
Regardless of his intentions, he could not be allowed to harm others any further.
The group fell silent. For two years, great demons had been rampant across the Xuantian Continent, yet the demon race had made no moves. What were they plotting?
A day later, they arrived at Xinghe City.
Xinghe City was much more prosperous than the markets of Renyan Sect and Xuanxin Sect. Everywhere were the totem symbols of Xinghe City.
This place had clearly become Xinghe City's territory, and everyone tacitly acknowledged it.
Chu Lingwei and her companions entered the only restaurant that did not display the Xinghe totem. As soon as they walked in, a man resembling a shopkeeper greeted them warmly.
"Excuse me, are you fellow Daoist Nangong?"
"Indeed."
"The Young Master had already instructed this old servant to prepare rooms for three esteemed guests. Please follow this old servant." The shopkeeper was extremely respectful and led them towards the back courtyard of the restaurant.
Stepping into the courtyard, a formation's fluctuation could be felt. Chu Lingwei observed carefully; the backyard alone was covered by ten different barriers.
"Fellow Daoist Nangong, Fellow Daoist Su, Fairy Chu, these are your rooms." The shopkeeper led them to an independent courtyard and bowed before withdrawing.
"Is this the Leng family's restaurant?"
As Chu Lingwei entered the living room, she noticed a small, sword-shaped dark pattern on the main seat. She had seen something similar in her eldest senior brother's Leng family restaurant.
"Little Junior Sister has a keen eye. This is indeed a Leng family establishment. I believe Eldest Senior Brother will join us for tonight's auction." Only the Leng family's businesses spanned every corner of the Xuantian Continent.
Chu Lingwei rested briefly in her room and entered her personal space. Feng Ming's condition had stabilized, and she only needed to wait for him to wake up.
Feng Ming was not in danger. The Phantom Cat followed Chu Lingwei out of the space.
Having finally arrived in such a bustling city, she and the beast were in high spirits. After a bit of dressing up, they appeared on the lively streets.
"Weiwei, let's buy some spiritual food to put in the space." The Phantom Cat, catching the scent of spiritual cuisine wafting from all directions, couldn't help but swallow.
Chu Lingwei found it amusing, pinching the Phantom Cat in her arms, which looked like an ordinary kitten. "Isn't there enough food in the space for you?"
The Phantom Cat's gluttonous nature was fully displayed.
"They don't taste as good as what the restaurant makes." Ever since the Phantom Cat had tasted the spiritual cuisine at Leng Xingzhi's restaurant, it had been unable to forget it.
During the two years in the Ten Thousand Miles Forest, Leng Xingzhi often cooked spiritual meals, which had spoiled the Phantom Cat's palate.
"Alright, we'll buy more later." Chu Lingwei was not short of money. Anything that could be solved with money was not a problem.
Walking along the bustling streets, shops lined both sides of the road, offering everything from food and clothing to accommodation and entertainment.
Chu Lingwei was infected by the lively atmosphere and indulged her natural feminine urge to shop. Whatever caught her eye or seemed interesting, she bought it all.
"Weiwei, buy all these spirit grass seeds."
"Weiwei, these are spirit fruit seeds."
"Weiwei, we don't have these in our space..."
Chu Lingwei and the beast went on a spree, their sole focus being "buy, buy, buy."
As they happily shopped, a man sitting in a spiritual tea house watched their every move.
"Go. Tonight, I want to see her." A sinister voice softly echoed.
