Chapter 390: Chapter 390: Daniel Will Kill You
Instantly, Daniel felt nervous. He tried to think of a way to explain things about his mother.
But when he looked back at Chantelle, the words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat. His chest felt heavy, and it was filled only with a pain he couldn’t describe.
"Have you eaten today?" Chantelle finally asked.
Daniel was surprised by her question. He shook his head.
"You haven’t eaten anything since you came back yesterday?" Chantelle frowned.
"I’ll eat now!" Daniel said quickly, afraid she might walk away.
Chantelle felt anxious. He never acted like this before. Still, she said, "The medicine is ready. Let’s go to the lab first. We can eat on the way."
"Let’s eat first. There should be leftovers from last night. And you haven’t eaten since yesterday either," Daniel replied as he stood up.
Although Chantelle only wanted something simple, she did not want to argue with Daniel. She walked straight to the dining room.
Daniel followed her inside. He felt glad that she made the effort to speak to him.
There were only two maids in the villa. When they saw Daniel and Chantelle in the dining room, they quickly went to heat up the leftovers and began preparing more dishes.
"Don’t bother cooking anything. We’ll just eat the leftovers from last night." Chantelle wasn’t in the mood to eat. She didn’t want to trouble the maids.
In truth, Chantelle didn’t want to waste time eating. She would rather go to the lab earlier.
Hearing that, Daniel somehow sensed what was on Chantelle’s mind. His face turned dark.
"Trenton has gone back to Easthan. When are we going back?" Daniel asked, telling her what his men had discovered.
Chantelle wasn’t surprised at all when she heard it. Right away, Daniel realized Calvin must have already told her.
"I’ll only go back after Xander recovers. You can go first if you can’t wait, but the kids must stay," Chantelle replied while eating.
Daniel kept staring at her without blinking. He almost forgot to eat.
"Hey, what’s wrong? Come on, finish your food. Otherwise, I won’t wait for you," Chantelle said, tapping Daniel’s fork with hers.
It took Daniel a moment to come back to his senses. Regaining his composure, he picked up some salad and said, "I want to stay here to keep you company."
"It’s okay! You’d better go back first." Chantelle rejected him without hesitation.
She wanted to calm herself. She needed to think about her standpoints. She also needed space to sort things out.
"Is it because of Xander?" Daniel couldn’t help asking.
"Well, it will take at least half a month for Xander to recover fully. Are you sure you can stay here that long? And are you sure you’re staying because of me?"
Chantelle could see what Daniel was thinking from his eyes. He stayed because he wanted to look for the two women, not because of her. But Daniel couldn’t tell her the truth.
"I’m done. I’ll wait for you in the car." Chantelle couldn’t eat anymore. She put down her fork and left the dining table.
But Daniel grabbed her wrist. "You can eat here. I’ll wait for you outside."
"If you’re finished, let’s go." Chantelle shook off Daniel’s hand and walked ahead.
Inside the car, they both stayed quiet. Chantelle was driving, but she looked troubled. She honked several times when other cars tried to switch lanes.
Seeing that, Daniel quickly reached out and held the steering wheel for her.
"I meant it when I said I want to stay here to keep you company. I don’t care about anything else. But I have to stay with you. Otherwise, I can’t sleep."
"You don’t have to tell me everything. Do whatever you want!" Chantelle sneered.
"I will find out what happened yesterday and let you know after the investigation."
"I hope you don’t go back on your words." What happened yesterday could put the kids’ lives at risk. Chantelle wanted a full investigation.
She admitted she was also responsible for what happened. If she hadn’t rushed away to help Daniel so recklessly, Trenton wouldn’t have had the chance.
Still, Daniel should not have put the children in danger just to lure Trenton. He had to take the blame.
"Chantelle, you have to believe me. You and the children are always the most important things in my life."
But Chantelle stayed silent. She stepped on the gas pedal and drove off quickly.
Soon, they arrived at Russell’s laboratory. Philip and Russell were already waiting at the door. Alexander was there as well.
"Thank you so much for your hard work," Chantelle said, nodding to Alexander. He greeted her and asked about her condition.
Russell and Philip remained silent. But Philip felt a bit awkward. He moved closer to Daniel and asked curiously, "What happened, Daniel? Chantelle looks mad. She didn’t even glance at us. I didn’t do anything wrong lately, so it must be you. What did you do to her?"
Daniel glanced at Philip and followed Chantelle into the research site.
But Philip didn’t give up and kept asking, "Why did you offend Chantie? Why won’t she even look at you now?"
Daniel was already in a bad mood. He got angry when Philip kept talking about how Chantelle was treating him.
"If you don’t want to do it, you can go to Alewell instead."
Philip quickly ran over to Russell and asked, "You know Chantie well. Do you know what happened between her and Daniel?"
Daniel stopped walking and glanced at Russell. He wondered if Russell’s identity was as special as Calvin’s.
"I don’t know. Ms. Chantelle never talked to me about something like this," Russell replied politely.
Although Chantelle hadn’t spoken to him about it, Calvin had complained to him for a long time. That was why he wasn’t happy to see Daniel. He also didn’t want to explain anything to Philip.
Alexander approached them and asked curiously, "Did you say Chantelle and Mr. Wilson had an argument?"
Philip suddenly became cautious and whispered, "It’s just a squabble between couples. Don’t you dare try anything funny. Daniel will kill you."
"Every guy wants a good woman," Alexander said loud enough for Daniel to hear. Daniel’s face turned gloomy at his words.
Philip sneakily gave Alexander a thumbs-up. Then he saw Alexander run over to Chantelle and ask, "How do you feel, Chantelle?"
Chantelle turned around and smiled. "I think I can take the medicine."
"Since both of you are injured, why don’t you rest for a few days before taking it?" Philip said after hearing Chantelle’s words.
Daniel was also hoping for that. But Chantelle frowned. She wanted to be cured as soon as possible. Xander was still sick, and she would stay worried until she saw him recover.
