Chapter 62: Is he the one?
As the sun’s golden light streamed through the window, it bathed Augustine’s figure in a warm glow, highlighting the sharp angles of his face.
Augustine blinked several times, his lashes fluttering as the brightness blurred his vision.
With a quiet sigh, he raised a hand, shielding his eyes from the piercing rays, his fingers spreading slightly as if trying to grasp the light itself.
Ever so slowly, Augustine opened his eyes, a deep yawn escaping his lips as he stretched his arms above his head.
His muscles ached slightly, a lingering reminder of the restless night before. ’What a long night,’ he mused, rubbing his temples before rolling off the bed.
Sluggishly, Augustine made his way towards the bathroom and there he took his bath before proceeding to wear the clothes that his secretary brought over to the hospital the previous night.
Augustine swiftly wore his clothes and with that he stepped outside the hospital room, making his way towards the garage where his secretary currently awaits him.
"Good day, CEO Augustine," his secretary warmly greeted him with a slight bow.
Augustine nodded before settling into the passenger seat, his expression unreadable as his secretary started the engine.
The low hum of the car filled the silence.
"Take me to my mansion," Augustine instructed, his voice firm yet weary.
Without hesitation, his secretary obeyed, smoothly pulling the car onto the road.
As the car weaved through the bustling streets, Augustine retrieved his phone from his pocket, his fingers gliding across the screen with ease, pondering if he should message Charles.
’I’m coming to pick you up. Step outside—I’ll be there soon.’
Augustine hesitated for a moment before hitting send, his gaze lingering on the screen as if anticipating an immediate response.
Meanwhile...
Just as Charles reached for the mansion’s entrance gate, the sudden beep of his phone halted his movement.
Frowning slightly, he pulled it out of his pocket and glanced at the screen.
The moment his eyes scanned Augustine’s message, his eyes widened in surprise.
’He’s coming here? Now?’
Charles grip tightened around the phone as his heart pounded against his ribs.
Swallowing hard, he glanced toward the road, his pulse quickening with anticipation.
’Why does he want to pick me up?’ Charles questioned himself as he sighed.
He shoved his phone deep into his pocket, intending to ignore Augustine, but before he could turn away, a white Range Rover suddenly pulled up in front of him.
’Who the hell is...’
Before Charles could complete his rails of thought, the back door opened with Augustine stepped out of the car.
Without hesitation, Augustine strode toward Charles, his arms opening wide before wrapping it tightly around Charles.
Augustine’s grip was firm yet gentle, as if he feared Charles might slip away.
Pressing his face into the curve of Charles’s neck, Augustine took a slow, deliberate breath, inhaling the intoxicating mix of Charles natural scent and the faint traces of cologne.
A shiver ran through him—not from the cold, but from the overwhelming sense of familiarity and longing that surged through his chest.
Charles became immobile.
"You should have returned back to the hospital." Augustine purred, whispering his words into Charles’s neck where his face was buried.
With a smile, Charles wrapped his hand around the waist of Augustine, pulling him closer to himself. "Did you miss me that much?" He whispered with a soft amusing voice.
Augustine nods, sniffing in even more. "You were away from me for too long." He mumbled.
Charles smiled, his hands slipping away from Augustine’s waist as he attempted to step back, but Augustine’s grip remained firm, holding him in place.
"If you keep this up," Charles murmured, tilting his head slightly, "I’m going to be late for work."
His tone was light and teasing, but the way Augustine’s arms tightened told Charles that letting go was the last thing on Augustine’s mind.
"I don’t care if you’re late," Augustine purred, nuzzling closer. "All I want is to continue inhaling your intoxicating scent."
"Geez... stop being so clingy!" Charles huffed, rolling his eyes before shoving Augustine away with more force than necessary.
Now that there was some distance between them, Charles exhaled sharply. "Let’s go," he stated, his tone firm as he strode to the car and pulled open the front door without another glance at Augustine.
"Good day," a young man greeted, slightly bowing his head at Charles.
Stunned...
Instantly, Charles began stunned as he fluttered his eyelashes a few times while sniffing his nose. "Hmm... good day to you too." Charles stuttered, stepping down from the car as he shut the door.
He quickly rushed over to where Augustine was standing, and with a frown, Charles smacked the shouter of Augustine. "Why didn’t you inform me that someone drove you here?" Charles demanded, but before Augustine could reply, Charles yanked open the car door and slid into the passenger seat.
Augustine settled into his seat, mirroring Charles as they both sat close to their respective doors, leaving a noticeable gap between them.
The secretary, who had just started the engine, glanced at Augustine through the rearview mirror. "CEO Augustine, is this man the one?" he asked, curiosity laced in his voice.
’What does he mean by THE ONE?’ Charles thought within himself.
Author note;
Dear lovely readers.
I am so pleased to know that you all are enjoying this novel so far.
I have poured my heart, my mind and my everything to make sure that I bring my characters to life and it’s discouraging to see that you all read my novel but fail to leave daily reviews.
My novel hardly gets promotions because powerstones, goldenticket, gifts and even reviews are not being given to me by readers.
I have made sure that my paid Chapters are a bit cheap and I update daily most times I update more than twice.
If I am being honest, I get discouraged every day knowing that I don’t even have a fan that I can interact with.
Why are you all not helping a new author like me to grow?
I love all my readers but I am begging... I am pleading with you all to support me in the best way possible.
Please...
And thanks in advance.
