Chapter 55: Xie Daiyu: She Is My Destined One!

Chapter 55: Xie Daiyu: She Is My Destined One!

"What happened, Holy One?" Nuan Nuan asked. However, when he saw the awkward expression on Ruan Chanchan’s face, he chuckled. "There is no need for you to think too much, Holy One. Though Brother Daiyu brought you to his bed, I don’t think he meant anything else by his actions."

"Are you sure about that?" Ruan Chanchan asked. She hoped that it was true. She truly had no interest in Xie Daiyu. If that mer were to show any interest in mating with her, she was worried that she would be skinned alive for rejecting the son of the Chief. After all, she had seen how much Chief Xie cared for her precious son.

If she refused or said ’no,’ Ruan Chanchan just knew that the Chief of the tribe would come to hunt her down in the middle of the night.

Nuan Nuan opened his mouth to say that he was sure, but then he recalled how Xie Daiyu looked when he was bringing Ruan Chanchan to the cave; his expression was filled with panic, and he even lost his temper with Zhou Laosan when the woman mocked Ruan Chanchan for meddling in affairs that were too big for her.

Xie Daiyy had lost his temper many times; after all, he was a bear beastman, and they were known for their quick temper. However, he had never lost his temper like he did earlier. He nearly killed Zhou Laosan. If Zhou Laosan’s old father hadn’t scrambled up the cave and knelt in front of Xie Daiyu while apologising to Ruan Chanchan, Nuan Nuan was certain that the mer would have killed Zhou Laosan then and there.

Thus, even though he wanted to, he couldn’t say anything to Ruan Chanchan.

Ruan Chanchan was waiting for Nuan Nuan to say that it was not a big deal, but when the mer didn’t say anything, she groaned. She had a feeling that whatever this was, it was going to turn into a big thing.

Far from the cave, Chief Xie was berating Xie Daiyu for losing his temper.

"You should have kept your calm. Do you even know what this looks like? Everyone thinks that you are interested in Ruan Chanchan," said Chief Xie. Though she had to admit that Ruan Chanchan was a rather skilled woman, as a mother, she still couldn’t help but think that Ruan Chanchan was not good enough for her son.

She sighed and turned to look at her son, who still had his head lowered. She said to Xie Daiyu, "I know that you feel guilty for pushing Ruan Chanchan to the front, but you cannot just kill someone just because they said a few words about her. I was going to punish Zhou Laosan for speaking out of line, but now that you have hurt her like this, we have to not only send her meat as compensation but also take care of her."

"While she will be resting in her cave without going out to hunt, you will be bringing in the meat by risking your life. Tell me, is this a punishment? If you ask me, this is more like a reward."

"Xie Daiyu, you are going to be the chief of this tribe one day. Even if your mate will be the one who will be named as one, the authority will lie in your hands. Is this how you are going to lead the tribe? I mean—"

"I think Ruan Chanchan is my destined one."

Chief Xie paused. Her entire body stiffened from head to toe. She turned to look at her son; her gaze was a bit complicated as she asked, "What do you mean by that?"

"I said that she might be my destined one." Xie Daiyu raised his head and looked at his mother. He raised his hand and placed it on the side of his chest where lay his heart and explained, "When she fainted and I thought she had died, I felt a tug right here. Just as you said, one would feel when meeting their destined one. It was strong, so strong that I nearly felt the pain that she was in at that moment. But it soon disappeared the second she lost consciousness."

Chief Xie was speechless. She was affronted and angry at the twist of fate.

Her perfect son. The one who was going to become the leader of the tribe was destined to become the mate of a fool? How could she accept it?!

Alright, Ruan Chanchan was not exactly a fool, but she was no different than one in her eyes. Even though Priestess Yuan kept telling her that the woman was actually smarter than the others, and that was the reason why she found it disdainful to interact with others now that she had woken up.

But Chief Xie could still remember the days when Ruan Chanchan was eating the maggot-filled meat and being chased by the kids. She just couldn’t change Ruan Chanchan’s image in her mind, even if she had done something miraculous. Now, before she could even accept Ruan Chanchan’s changes, her son was telling her that Ruan Chanchan was his destined one?

Why? WHYYY! That fool!

Chief Xie almost staggered backwards because of the blood that flooded right into her head the second she heard Xie Daiyu’s words.

"Mother!"

Xie Daiyu reached out to hold his mother, who raised her hand and said to him, "I am fine." She stabilised herself and then repeated, "I am fine."

Raising her hand, she rubbed her forehead before repeating, "You — you say that Ruan Chanchan is your destined one? Are you sure?"

"I am." Xie Daiyu had felt the tug and sharp pain in his chest, which proved that Ruan Chanchan was his destined one. He couldn’t believe that he had his destined one right next to him, and yet he wanted to go on with the sacred ceremony with Shao Xia. If he had mated with her, what would have happened to him and Ruan Chanchan?
