Chapter 51: Ruan Chanchan: Saving life.
Ruan Chanchan was quite smug when she heard Priestess Yuan scold Zhou Laosan. This woman had been going against her ever since she came down from her cave; of course she knew that it was because Ruan Zeqiu had rejected her but instead of acting like a sore loser, Zhou Laosan could have shown a bit more care and concern towards her tribe member instead of focusing on insulting her.
It was a good thing that Ruan Zeqiu was not willing to get involved with someone like Zhou Laosan or else she would have fought to the death just for the sake of making her brother get rid of Zhou Laosan.
As for whether it was possible or not? Ruan Zeqiu had told Ruan Chanchan that there were three types of mating. The first one was the basic kind of mating, where anyone could mate and have kids with just about anyone. The second was the Sacred Mating ritual, where two beastmen would come together and take an oath to spend their lives together with one another without betraying or taking another beastman.
This was the mating ceremony that Xie Daiyu had planned to hold with Shao Xia.
And the third mating ceremony was a kind of mystical one.
Of the two ceremonies, this one was much more solemn, as this one was destined and created by the creator of this world. They were what others would call fated ones. Because they were tied together by the Beast Goddess herself, Ruan Zeqiu said that they could never walk away from one another.
’Though it hardly happens. It’s really rare for the fated ones to meet, as this world is way too large. Meeting your fated one is like finding Beast Fruit; after all, it’s just as rare to get your hands on a Beast Fruit that could fix your broken beast core. Most of the time the fated ones don’t even recognize one another and walk away.’

And as far as Ruan Chanchan knew her brother, he would never be foolish enough to join his hands together with someone like Zhou Laosan in a Sacred Mating Ceremony unless that woman was holding her by the neck and had her claws around Ruan Chanchan’s neck and even if the two of them had gotten together in that Sacred Mating Ceremony, Ruan Chanchan would have done everything in her power to break it.
Not that Ruan Zeqiu would even look in the direction of that shameless and cowardly woman.
"Take Ah Man to her cave," commanded Chief Xie. even though she felt like the entire thing was quite useless, she had to admit that Priestess Yuan was quite right. Even if they allowed Ruan Chanchan to help Ah Man, nothing would change. Ah Man would still die, so why should she bother to stop Ruan Chanchan?
At least with Ruan Chanchan trying for one last time, she could teach Xie Daiyu that he needed to control his temper and think his decisions through before acting on them.
Ruan Chanchan had no idea what was going on in Chief Xie’s head. She followed Nuannuan and the rest of the tribe members, who brought Ah Man to the cave where Nuan Nuan and Ah Man lived with their only son.
When Ruan Chanchan arrived at their cave, she realised how hard Ruan Zeqiu worked for her, this foolish sister of his. Because compared to her cave which was laden and furnished quite well, this cave was really gloomy and cold. There were no animal skins covering the floor and there was no stone bowl.
The entire cave was cold, with a bunch of dried hay and leaves placed at odd places; it was likely a bed made for the child such that he wouldn’t roll off while lying on the ground. Beastmen children were much stronger and more powerful than human babies, which meant that they grew up faster than human children.
So, Ruan Chanchan knew that the worries of Nuan Nuan and Ah Man were not unfounded.
"Chanchan, you will be able to save my wife, right?" Nuan Nuan asked. But as soon as he finished speaking, he felt amused by his own thoughts. What was he doing? Why was he talking to a fool? And why was he even holding hopes that Ruan Chanchan would be able to save the life of his wife?
In his heart, he knew that his wife was going to die. He just knew it but for the sake of his son, he couldn’t bring himself to admit that the child’s mother was going to die before their son could even turn one.
His eyes turned red at the thought of how his Ah Man would never come back with that sunshine-like smile of hers.
"Yes!"
However, just as he was lost in his thoughts, he heard Ruan Chanchan speak. Nuan Nuan raised his head and looked at the woman. The second their gazes met, Nuan Nuan was stunned because in the usually dazed eyes of Ruan Chanchan, he could actually see the determination to save his wife’s life.
He blinked his eyes and chuckled softly. "Alright, then I will leave this matter in your hands."
It didn’t matter if Ruan Chanchan could save his wife or not. He would accept the outcome in the end; at least he wouldn’t have any regrets, thinking about how he couldn’t save his wife when he had the chance to.
Nuan Nuan walked out of the cave, and Ruan Chanchan headed inside. She crouched down and looked at Ah Man.
"Xiao Xi, take a look at her condition."
"Sure, Darling," replied Xiao Xi as he bobbled up and down before examining the woman lying on the ground. From his eyes a bunch of crisscrossing lines poured out as they examined the woman from head to toe before disappearing into thin air. "She is fine. Just need the antidote before the poison gets close to her heart."
"And how much time is left for that?"
"Another half an hour."
