Ning Wei immediately threw away all the food after Mu Qing left.
If the head nurse was in charge of her for the next two days, it wouldn't be so easy to fool.
In the first hour after Mu Qing left, Ning Wei felt a pang of missing her.
Having skipped dinner, Ning Wei lay on her bed, clutching her stomach and pouting as it rumbled.
Li Ye walked in and offered her two eggs.
"Did you steal from the cafeteria?" Ning Wei jumped up upon seeing the food.
"That's a possibility, but I don't think you can steal anything from the cafeteria unless you're willing to eat raw vegetables and meat," Li Ye replied matter-of-factly.
Given that he brought her eggs, Ning Wei decided not to argue with him.
She peeled an egg and, though it was cold, it was enough to appease her hunger.
After eating two eggs, Ning Wei felt completely revived.
"Where did the eggs come from?" she asked, only truly concerned about their origin after she had finished eating, actually wanting to know if she could get more.
Li Ye's words dashed her hopes: "I saved these for you this morning."
Looking at the eggshells on the table, Ning Wei felt a bit embarrassed. Even with her thick skin, her face flushed a little at Li Ye's subtle affection.
"I don't need to eat anyway. Don't imagine I specifically saved these for you. I just didn't want to watch you starve before you could even leave this place."
As expected!
She really shouldn't have had any illusions about Li Ye!
With the eggs delivered, Li Ye immediately returned to his own room.
Ning Wei, left alone, grumbled incessantly, crushing the eggshells into fine pieces before flushing them down the toilet.
Tonight, for once, she hadn't taken any medication. Ning Wei remained alert, waiting for the patrol to leave the building before immediately opening Li Ye's door and pulling him along to check on the other passengers one by one.
Fortunately, despite two passengers having already died, the number of assimilated individuals had not increased, which brought Ning Wei some comfort.
When they arrived at Tang Tang's room, the first thing they did was hand over their pills.
Since they had nothing else to do, during their free time, they even searched their own room from top to bottom, not even sparing the toilet's flushing mechanism.
In reality, there was nothing else to do in the evening except hand over the pills.
It was just that people could take the opportunity to wander around at night. Being confined to their rooms day after day would drive anyone mad, even without medication.
Patients other than the passengers fell into a deep sleep after dinner. It was not difficult to deduce that their evening medication likely contained some sedative.
However, this was for the best, as it made it easier for Ning Wei and the others to move around freely.
If a patient had seen them one day and started spouting nonsense, they might have been exposed.
The nine passengers were divided into two teams each night: Ning Wei and Li Ye in one team, and the others in the other.
Ning Wei and Li Ye arrived at the elevator. Li Ye began to test his X-ray vision again.
This time, Li Ye held the precious bead from the Zhou family. It was unclear what Li Ye had done, but the bead emitted a faint red light.
Ning Wei remained silent, standing aside and waiting.
This time, Li Ye stood there for a long time.
Ning Wei watched him with his eyes closed, the bead in his hand constantly emitting light. Growing impatient, she dared not make a sound to disturb him.
Just as Ning Wei was about to sit on the floor and wait, Li Ye grabbed her arm, preventing her from squatting down.
"I see it."
"What's below?" Ning Wei asked eagerly.
"Rooms, rooms of various sizes, and all sorts of medical equipment."
"And then?" Ning Wei looked at Li Ye expectantly.
However, Li Ye shook his head, and the bead in his hand completely lost its glow.
"This is all I can see," Li Ye said truthfully.
In fact, what he saw was enough. Based on what he had described, Ning Wei was certain there was an operating room below.
No wonder the doctors had never appeared; they had been hiding in the basement all along.
Ning Wei touched the elevator door: "To truly uncover the secrets of this psychiatric hospital, we have to go deep into the enemy's lair."
"You're going to take a risk by yourself?"
"What else? They've been giving me so many sedatives every day, precisely to take me away. This is a golden opportunity right before us."
"Then I'll go with you," Li Ye added.
Ning Wei didn't know what to say. Li Ye didn't have to do this. Although he was down on his luck now, Ning Wei believed that with his abilities, he didn't have to stay here.
As they returned to their rooms, Li Ye suddenly said to Ning Wei, "Don't act rashly. Don't forget the powder in our drinking water every day. Logically, the nurses on the fifth floor eat just as much medication as we do. Perhaps someone can go and check out the secret of the basement for us."
Ning Wei's focus was not on this. She eyed Li Ye suspiciously.
"Has it been replaced again?"
"What do you mean?" Li Ye frowned, looking at her.
"The old you spoke only when necessary. Why are you talking so much now? Are you actually a chatterbox?"
Li Ye, too lazy to deal with this woman, turned and went back inside, slamming the door shut with a resounding bang in the quiet night.
Ning Wei's brow twitched in surprise. This person was so quick to anger, and couldn't take a joke.
She quickly looked around. Fortunately, the patients were still asleep, and the patrol had already left, so no one heard the commotion.
Ning Wei returned to her room and waited for dawn.
This time, because she hadn't taken any medication, she woke up very early.
She heard the nurses opening and closing doors, but no one came to her room.
This indicated that last night's medicine also had a soporific effect, so the nurses had no intention of waking her up.
Ning Wei lay there until her body grew stiff. Unable to bear it any longer, she slowly got up.
Even without Mu Qing, she had to play her part.
She slowly completed the actions of getting out of bed, then sat by the window, staring blankly.
The head nurse opened the door and walked in, looking at Ning Wei with a stern expression. She used her stethoscope to examine her.
"Ning Wei, can you hear me?"
Ning Wei nodded slowly. "Head nurse, I don't feel very well."
The corner of the head nurse's eyes crinkled with a smile upon hearing that she was unwell.
She stroked Ning Wei's hair. "Don't worry, you'll be able to leave the hospital soon. How about we go out for some sunshine this afternoon?"
"Okay, I love sunshine the most."
Since she was scheduled for sun exposure, it meant she wouldn't be forced to sleep after lunch.
Ning Wei breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that she could finally eat a full meal.
Noon arrived quickly. The head nurse personally brought in the food. Seeing Ning Wei eating heartily, she left the room satisfied.
In the afternoon, it was soon time for their sun exposure.
