Madam Jade

Chapter 297 Bai Xian Town Forty-Nine

No one could really come up with a solution; the entity wouldn't appear unless it was willing, so even if everyone wanted to fight it, they wouldn't find an opportunity.

Just as everyone was stuck in their troubles, Li Ye suddenly invited Ning Wei to go mountain climbing.

Ning Wei couldn't process it for a moment. How could the conversation jump so drastically?

Tang Tang nudged Ning Wei and whispered, "Go, it's not like we can think of anything by staying here. Maybe you'll get new ideas with a walk outside."

Meeting Li Ye's expectant gaze, Ning Wei could only nod.

The two walked out of the town and passed by the Mountain God Temple.

Seeing the temple, Ning Wei thought Li Ye might have come up with a plan to deal with the situation.

She raised her eyebrows at Li Ye, "Are we going inside?"

Li Ye glanced at the Mountain God Temple, his eyes filled with undisguised disgust and disdain.

His gaze shifted back to Ning Wei. A gentle breeze swept through her hair, lifting a strand that then brushed against her face.

In Li Ye's eyes, no matter what Ning Wei looked like, she was incredibly beautiful.

At this moment, the affection in his eyes was impossible to hide. Ning Wei met his gaze, almost drowning in those lake-like eyes.

Though the word "love" had never been spoken, their feelings only grew stronger.

Li Ye took Ning Wei's hand, their fingers interlacing. "We've been so busy clearing levels that I haven't had a chance to spend time alone with you. So today, don't ask anything, just accompany me as we climb the mountain slowly."

Ning Wei was about to say something when Li Ye's long, slender, cold finger landed lightly on her lips, a touch as delicate as a butterfly's kiss.

"No thinking about anything else. Today's time belongs only to us."

It was rare for Li Ye to be so assertive, and Ning Wei had no reason to refuse.

If they couldn't find a way for everyone to leave this place safely, Ning Wei had already decided on a certain path she would take.

If it really came to that, Ning Wei couldn't help but glance at Li Ye's profile, thinking how much she would miss him.

It was a regret that she still hadn't helped him find his memories.

She always felt that Li Ye, without his complete memories, wasn't truly himself.

She wondered if he would have been even more spirited and dashing than he was now.

Lost in thought, Ning Wei didn't notice a large rock at her feet and tripped, losing her balance.

Just as she was about to fall, Li Ye caught her.

As intelligent and vigilant as he was, how could he not notice Ning Wei's subtle movements?

He didn't expose her because he didn't want to embarrass her, especially since she always maintained a cool demeanor in front of others.

With this small incident, Li Ye's arm naturally rested on Ning Wei's back, ready to support her at any moment.

They climbed the mountain from the foot upwards in silence.

After an unknown amount of time, they finally reached the summit.

From the foot of the mountain, the summit seemed unattainable.

However, upon reaching the top, they saw even higher mountains surrounding them, stretching as far as the eye could see.

This Bai Xian Town was nestled within these peaks. It was originally a peaceful and serene town, but strange occurrences had become frequent.

Human nature is inherently complex and changeable, and the world is full of temptations. This vengeful spirit disguised as the Mountain God was merely a tip of the iceberg among countless temptations.

Feeling the wind from the mountaintop, Ning Wei asked him, "You specifically asked me to climb the mountain today, it's not just for climbing, is it?"

Li Ye turned and looked at her seriously. "I know you have something weighing on your heart, but I hope from now on, no matter what, you will always be happy."

This sudden concern left Ning Wei somewhat bewildered.

She blinked her beautiful eyes at Li Ye, her gaze full of confusion.

Li Ye didn't say more, gave a slight smile, and patted her head.

Ning Wei frowned in annoyance and immediately complained, "Do you know this gesture is very much like petting a puppy!"

"Is it? I learned it from you. Didn't you pet the white cat like this just the other day?" Li Ye's eyes twinkled with amusement as he gazed at Ning Wei without blinking.

"What's your motive for bringing me to this place?" Ning Wei was still worried about the black snake incident, and her patience was wearing thin.

Li Ye spotted a large rock and, ignoring Ning Wei's protests, pulled her down to sit.

"Watch a sunset with me, and I'll give you a surprise tonight."

Ning Wei curiously pressed, "What surprise?"

"It's a secret."

"There's still a long time until sunset, isn't there?" Ning Wei didn't have a watch and didn't know how long they had spent climbing.

As she spoke, her stomach rumbled twice.

Ning Wei discreetly glanced at Li Ye, afraid he would hear the embarrassing sound.

Though Li Ye didn't say it directly, it was clear he had heard. "I remember there were fruit trees along the way. I'll pick a couple. You wait here for me, and don't leave."

Ning Wei nodded, her face flushing as she watched Li Ye leave.

Only after Li Ye disappeared from sight did Ning Wei clutch her stomach and bend over.

It was normal to be hungry after climbing for so long, Ning Wei kept telling herself.

Li Ye worked quickly, returning not only with a bag of fruit but also several wild eggs.

He placed the fruit on the rock, then picked up two of the best ones, wiped them clean with his clothes, and explained, "I didn't see any water on the way, so I had to use my clothes to wipe them."

Ning Wei looked at him and said, "Do you know you're becoming more down-to-earth? You seem more human."

Li Ye was busy gathering firewood to roast the eggs for Ning Wei, so he didn't reply.

Ning Wei fully enjoyed Li Ye's care without any pressure.

"By the way, I was busy with the Mountain God matter and didn't pay attention to you. Have you found your memories yet?"

Upon hearing this, Li Ye's firewood-gathering paused for a second. His back stiffened, and knowing he couldn't avoid the question, he answered directly, "No, I haven't. There's no rush."

Ning Wei was too hungry and engrossed in eating the fruit to notice Li Ye's odd behavior.

Li Ye was like a Doraemon, even carrying a lighter with him.

Ning Wei propped her chin in her hand, quietly watching him start the fire to roast the eggs.

The fire burned brightly, and Ning Wei eagerly anticipated eating the eggs roasted by Li Ye's own hands.

The wild eggs were small, and there were only five in total.

Fortunately, Li Ye didn't need to eat, so all of them ended up filling Ning Wei's stomach.

After eating the wild eggs, Ning Wei finally felt less empty.

After all the commotion, sunset had quietly arrived.

Watching the yolk-like sun slowly sink behind the mountains, its dim yellow light cast upon the two of them.

At this moment, the pair could only be described as a match made in heaven.

"Let's go, it's time to head back." Li Ye extended his hand to Ning Wei.
