Ning Wei didn't know what to say for a moment. Under Li Ye's gaze, she began to stammer an explanation, "Isn't this me preparing in advance? I didn't say I had to oppose it."
Li Ye, however, silently shook her head. Ning Wei was acting very strangely, but if she didn't say anything, no one would know what had happened to her.
Ning Wei could hide it from everyone, but not from Li Ye.
However, she didn't plan to say anything now. After all, the mountain god only appeared at night and hadn't done anything to harm her.
She'd observe a bit longer, Ning Wei thought.
"It's late, let's go back to our rooms and sleep." Ning Wei wanted to escape quickly.
"Alright," Li Ye agreed softly, then escorted Ning Wei back to her room.
Ning Wei's heart pounded. She was afraid Li Ye would keep prying.
Lying on the bed, Ning Wei held out her hand in the air and looked at it, then sighed softly.
Writing talismans last night didn't prevent her from being locked in the little black room. She should conserve her blood.
What was coming would come eventually. Ning Wei simply closed her eyes and went to sleep.
As expected, the mountain god arrived as scheduled, but the little black room had changed.
In her daze, Ning Wei suddenly felt a sense of weightlessness.
She opened her eyes and found herself in a new place.
There was a small river, and by the river, a small wooden cabin.
This scene didn't seem like the work of the mountain god.
"Is anyone there?" Ning Wei shouted.
No one answered.
"Hello, hello!"
Still no response.
Ning Wei glanced at the wooden cabin and, gathering her courage, walked inside.
The closer she got, the more she could smell a foul odor.
She had a premonition that there was a terrifyingly large creature inside.
Anticipation and fear warred in Ning Wei's mind. Her footsteps lightened as she directly pushed open the cabin door.
Opening the door, the sight that greeted her was indeed unexpected.
A giant python coiled inside the cabin. It had two heads, one black and one white.
What was even more peculiar was that the white head was connected to a black body, and the black head was connected to a white body.
Was this... black and white mixed up? Or was it clearly black and white?
"Are you the mountain god?" Ning Wei spoke again.
The two-headed snake nodded, then flicked its tail. Ning Wei flinched and retreated a couple of steps.
If that massive tail hit her, she'd probably spit out blood.
"Are you afraid of me?" The mountain god seemed displeased by Ning Wei's retreat.
"I'm afraid of you accidentally hurting me," Ning Wei explained innocently.
The mountain god suddenly began to writhe violently, and a large tail whipped towards Ning Wei.
Ning Wei's face turned pale with fright, and she immediately turned to run.
She had estimated the snake's body length and calculated a safe distance.
The mountain god didn't chase after her, or rather, Ning Wei wasn't its target.
The entire wooden cabin shook violently due to its thrashing, as if experiencing an earthquake.
With a "boom," the cabin completely disintegrated.
A black and white two-headed snake burst out from the ruins, its colors subtly shifting.
Ning Wei retreated, constantly observing the giant snake's movements.
The snake seemed to be in great pain. It had destroyed the cabin and then plunged into the river.
The river looked shallow, but after the snake entered, it was completely submerged. Only continuously rising bubbles indicated the presence of a large creature beneath the water.
Ning Wei didn't dare to go closer. This giant snake looked like it had schizophrenia, and she didn't want to suffer from its madness.
The snake remained in the water for a long time before emerging.
Ning Wei's legs grew weak from standing. She sat down on the grass.
After a long while, a snow-white snake appeared.
It raised its head and flicked its tongue at Ning Wei.
Ning Wei had to admit, she was captivated by the white snake's beauty.
It wasn't just white; it was a pure, flawless white.
Although she didn't know why the two-colored snake had split after entering the water, seeing the white snake made Ning Wei even more eager to see the black snake.
She had once seen a video online of a spectacularly colorful black snake, incredibly beautiful.
It was a pity that such beings couldn't be seen in person. Perhaps now was her chance.
"What are you looking at?" The white snake suddenly spoke.
"I'm looking at your brother. Where did your other head go?"
The white snake sneered, "You're not afraid, are you? Is being locked in the little black room every night a pleasant experience?"
"No!" Ning Wei shook her head vigorously. "But who can I blame when I can't defeat you? Why don't you just say what you want? What are you trying to do?" httpδ:/m.kuAisugg.nět
In front of this white snake, Ning Wei didn't feel the chilling sensation she had experienced the previous two nights.
Perhaps it was its stunning appearance that made Ning Wei unable to feel fear, or perhaps it was some other reason.
The white snake's massive head suddenly appeared in front of Ning Wei. The distance between them was less than a meter. Ning Wei's breath hitched.
With such speed, she was far behind.
If the creature had wanted to kill her, it would have taken only a second.
However, the mountain god hadn't harmed her for three consecutive nights. Ning Wei's mind raced as she pondered.
"You need something from me, right?" Ning Wei guessed boldly. Because her life wasn't threatened, her tone became much lighter.
The white snake coiled its body and said slowly, "You are indeed clever."
"I'm just an ordinary demon-catching master. You, a dignified mountain god, I probably can't help you much." Ning Wei was indirectly refusing.
The mountain god's actions were too strange, and Ning Wei didn't want to get involved in this mess.
"You cannot refuse me," the white snake stated with certainty.
"Can a dignified Mountain God like yourself trouble a small person like me?"
"You are not a small person. You are the one they are desperately trying to obtain."
Ning Wei listened, completely bewildered. "I don't understand."
"If you agree to help me, I will tell you a story." The white snake spoke halfway, intending to entice Ning Wei into agreeing to its request.
Although Ning Wei was curious, she was unwilling to collude with a malevolent mountain god.
"Then perhaps not."
Upon hearing this answer, the white snake didn't press Ning Wei. It flicked its tail. "You will agree."
Just as Ning Wei was about to reply, a rooster's crow woke her.
This time, Ning Wei didn't jolt awake. She lay in bed and slowly opened her eyes. A beam of sunlight streamed through the window, falling directly onto her face.
She carefully recalled the events of the past three nights, piecing together every detail. Then, she arrived at a very bold guess.
This guess was outlandish. If it were true, it would likely stir up a storm in the entire town.
But all of this had nothing to do with her, an outsider. Ning Wei had already resolved to have no further dealings with the mountain god.
The rooster's crow not only woke Ning Wei but also roused others.
Everyone gradually got up. Tang Tang was still calculating with Zhu Yilian how long they had been in the town.
