Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Horse Training
The monastery had a really big courtyard. A suitable place for Siderius to train with his horse without worrying about obstacles on the way.
It was rather late in the day and the next stop was the inn, which needed at least half a day to reach.
Siderius fed the horse and let it reigned free inside the courtyard. The air in the monastery was clear after the witch’s death. Even the plants seem to be more lively.
"It’s a good place to live. If I can get my hands on it." Siderius mumbled.
He had dragged a wooden table and chair from inside the dining hall out to the courtyard. The hunter sat under the shade of a tree and tasted the tea of this monastery.
It was the only thing that stayed uncorrupted under the witch’s spell and had a fairly pleasant smell.
"Ah. I wish my pipe was here." Siderius sighed.
He was a heavy smoker back in his old world. Smoking had its risk but it calmed his agitated mind really well. Siderius thought that perhaps he should construct a pipe later down the line.
In the abandoned parts of the monastery, the surviving ghouls roamed behind the shadow of the windows. Siderius could see them from here. He intended to clean them out eventually, avoiding an unnecessary ghoul outbreak.
Their necrosis energy could mutate a person and cause them to turn into an undead. They wouldn’t turn into a ghoul unless they were cannibals. But there were cases where a person turned into a zombie after being bitten by a ghoul.
A common mutation across the Undead Family.
However, Siderius would wait for night to come to deal with those ghouls. His eyes were better at night. The ghouls also had night vision but their vision couldn’t be compared to the owl.
They were also no longer being controlled by the witch so Siderius should have no problem dealing with them alone.
Those ghoul’s skins and spirit of salt shall be his.
After resting, Siderius joined Red at the courtyard. He had taught him the word ’Stop’ as a command. Next he intended to teach it ’Walk’ and ’Run’.
These commands should be the foundation for him to use once he rode it.
The training was rather simple and very similar to the ’Stop’ command.
Siderius led Red by the leash and commanded Red to stop from time to time. However, whenever they started walking again, Siderius would say ’Walk’ so Red could associate the word with walking.
Repeating that a few times then Siderius let go of the leash. He only used commands to tell Red to stop and walk accordingly.
The horse was very obedient, staying by his side and only walking with his speed.
Sometimes Siderius would continue walking after telling Red to ’Stop’. This confused the horse a bit and it followed Siderius.
He had to tell it to stop a few times. When it stayed where it was at without following him, Siderius rewarded Red with some oats as treat.
Then he started to use the command ’Walk’ alone after Red had stood for a while, letting it know the difference between ’Stop’ and ’Walk’.
The last command ’Run’ was a bit hard to teach. Siderius couldn’t keep up with its pace so ’Run’ encountered some difficulty. This command should be easier to teach once Siderius rode it.
The hunter spent the entire day training the horse. In between sessions, they rested together while Siderius groomed and fed it, growing their connection.
When the sun began to set, Siderius jumped onto the horse for the first time.
It was a new sensation for Red but it didn’t seem to hate it. After all, it had grown very accustomed to this human.
Siderius started to use the ’Stop’ and ’Walk’ commands, letting the horse get familiar with the feeling of being a mount.
He let it in the stable when the moon grew high. The horse needed to rest.
Siderius went on to eradicate the remaining ghouls in the monastery. Ghouls were solidary creatures in nature. Unless there was a sheghoul, a powerful enhanced version of a ghoul, the ghouls would never move in packs.
Sheghoul was the queen of a ghoul colony and it was rare for it to show up by natural means. Sheghouls had only been birthed when there was a large scale of deaths. War, famine, etc. The list went on.
This kingdom might hold a terrible secret but it held no condition for a sheghoul to be created and unite the ghouls.
A lone ghoul posed little threat to Siderius. He carefully tracked each of them and killed them off one by one.
After he had done, Siderius skinned all of them and extracted their stomach acid. He collected the other corpses and laid them inside the dining hall, covering them with blankets from the dormitory.
There were twenty-three corpses there, except Lisa, which had been burned to ash by Siderius.
Sooner or later, what happened here would reach the ears of the authority. Having these corpses here would give them the answer they needed.
The Mother Reverend was very close with Scalize’s Baron. He probably would investigate this matter in the future.
After cleaning up the place, Siderius went to one of the bedrooms inside the dormitory and slept.
That night, he uncovered many more memories of Fluff. Mostly were useless memories of it preying on the weak.
However, to his surprise, Siderius saw Nora in his dream.
Starcrow was a crowded clan with many branched families. Lyara was the daughter of the Lord of Blossom Glades, the leader of house Starcrow.
Leona was her sister but her father was a concubine, not the First Husband of the Lord. This made her position much lower than Lyara.
What interested Siderius was a servant family inside Starcrow called Blackcrow. This family consisted of bastard daughters and sons of the Starcrow Clan. This meant that their position was so low that they couldn’t even earn a spot for the Starcrow last name. Their parents weren’t even recognized as concubines and sometimes they were just some servants or people foolish enough to share the bed with a Starcrow.
The desire of the Starcrow Clan was lust. And in their clan, lust ran free without morals and rules.
There he saw Nora Blackcrow, a beautiful young lady that fell prey to her cousins and relatives.
They used her like a toy and disregarded her as nothing but a skinbag for their joy.
Siderius didn’t have any sympathy for her. Hell was empty because all the demons were here. His feelings couldn’t change anything.
But at least he understood why Nora became who she was. The depravity of witches’ desire was the reason.
And he would make sure to cleanse them off of the surface of this world.
