Chapter 1628: Chapter 1628: I Didn’t Expect to See You Here
Rui Hui held the reins, as if accustomed to such compliments, a faint smile gracing her lips as she prepared to lead the horse back to the stables.
Just as she reached the edge of the field, a commotion arose from the entrance of the riding arena.
Curious, she turned her head to look, only to see a brown steed galloping through the crowd and dashing into the field with incredible speed.
Its imposing presence carried the might of a commanding army, instantly capturing the attention of everyone at the edge of the arena.
Rui Hui’s gaze tightened, following the figure on horseback, and she froze in place.
Running, leaping, weaving through obstacles…
A series of equestrian techniques were performed with breathtaking precision.
Finally, the steed charged directly toward Rui Hui’s direction.
“Whoa—”
The man on horseback pulled the reins, bringing the horse to a steady halt in front of Rui Hui.
He reached up to take off his hat, revealing a strikingly handsome face.
“Colonel Duke.”
Recognizing the man on horseback, Rui Hui was slightly taken aback.
Moments ago, she had felt the figure seemed familiar, which made her stop and watch.
She hadn’t expected it to truly be the person from her memories.
“You can just call me Duke, or like at the academy, senior. Adding ‘Colonel’ feels too formal.” The man dismounted gracefully and walked toward Rui Hui.
He extended a gentlemanly hand, helping her off her horse.
Duke Selter, a distinguished graduate of the Berlin Military Academy.
The Berlin Military Academy, also known as the cradle of senior military officers, was renowned worldwide.
Even Rui Hui, due to the Adolf family connection, had studied there for two years.
If the Adolf family represented a lineage dedicated to militarized education, the Selter family embodied the quintessential military aristocracy.
Duke’s father was a highly renowned German general who still served the government, and Duke himself had graduated from the Berlin Military Academy and become an exceptional colonel by the age of twenty-five.
If the name Selter symbolized family power in Germany, then Duke Selter was undoubtedly the perfect fusion of individual capability and familial influence.
“I didn’t expect to see you here.” Rui Hui stood firmly on the ground, her smile bright with happiness.
“I expected it, because I came here for you.” Duke held the reins and gestured for Rui Hui to step aside with him.
Along the way, he finally spoke in a light tone.
“After graduation, I went to carry out missions with the military in Munich, and I’ve been busy with work ever since. It’s only now that I’ve been reassigned back to Berlin. I looked for you once before, but I heard you had gone to America.”
Duke was tall, though not particularly bulky, his presence exuded a calm that made people feel at ease.
His German was impeccable, and his speech was neither too fast nor overbearing, unlike the typically brusque tones from military men.
In his presence, Rui Hui felt as if she had returned to campus, under the care and protection of her senior.
“So why did you come here today?” Rui Hui asked curiously, blinking her eyes.
“I heard you were back.” Duke smiled faintly and handed the reins to the nearby coachman, extending a hand toward Rui Hui.
“Care to join me for a drink?”
“Sure.” Rui Hui replied with a warm smile, placing her hand in Duke’s.
Back in the Berlin Military Academy, Duke had always looked after her.
To Rui Hui, besides the care she received from her family, it was likely only this senior who had left such a deep impression on her.
In truth, the reason Rui Hui remembered Duke so vividly was largely due to his excellence.
The Adolf family revered strength, and Rui Hui had grown up receiving the same education.
