Chapter 1596: Chapter 1596: Yao, find me a stick!

“Back then, I thought your leg…” Qin Youxuan’s anger flared up again as she brought up the topic of his leg, glaring fiercely at Dan Hanjie.

“I don’t want to go back for now.”

“Do you want me to break my own leg, render it useless forever, so you’ll finally agree to come back with me?” Dan Hanjie’s voice was calm and light, but Qin Youxuan could sense a hint of sincerity beneath it, making her heart skip a beat.

She bit her lip.

“Yao, find me a stick!” Dan Hanjie turned, shouting at Yao, who was stationed outside the door.

“Dan Hanjie!” Qin Youxuan growled in a low voice, reaching out to grab his hand.

“If you think I lied to you, then breaking my leg for real would prove I didn’t deceive you.”

“…”

Qin Youxuan froze, her cat-like eyes flickering with a trace of shock as she bit her lip tightly.

That’s right.

Hadn’t she been worried all along that his leg would never heal? Now that it was fine, she should’ve been happy. So why was she still sulking?

It was merely anger, the feeling that her genuine care had been trampled on.

All those days of anxiety and fear, and it turned out to be nothing more than a game.

“I still have things to do at home, and I can’t leave all the company matters to Jin Chenye forever. I need to make proper arrangements before I go.” Qin Youxuan lifted her head, glancing at him as she took their son from Dan Hanjie’s arms.

“You go back first.”

“The company’s matters can be handled by me. There’s no need for you to worry. Whatever you want to do, I can help you with it. Jin Chenye is unnecessary—he can leave anytime you want him to.”

Dan Hanjie reached out, holding her chin firmly and forcing her to look at him. “Why are you staying at the Ye Family’s house? Are you deliberately avoiding me?”

“…”

Qin Youxuan frowned, attempting to turn her head away, but Dan Hanjie refused to let go of her.

Frustrated, she growled low, “In a few days, it’s my dad’s birthday. I need to visit his grave to offer incense. Do you want to come with me?”

“…”

“Even if you want to go, I won’t agree.” Qin Youxuan took a deep breath. “I don’t want to argue with you over this, but can you please give me some time and space to do what I want?”

“What you want to do—isn’t it just finding all sorts of excuses to push me away?” Dan Hanjie’s voice lowered. His towering figure moved closer, pulling Qin Youxuan into his arms.

“Whatever you want to do, I can do it with you—as long as you stay by my side.”

“…”

Qin Youxuan felt a tightness in her chest. Flashes of the car accident replayed in her mind, leaving her so pained that she couldn’t find the words to speak.

She instinctively wrapped her arms around Dan Hanjie’s waist.

Burying her small face against his chest, she murmured dully, “I’m not trying to leave you. I just want to stay longer at the Ye Family’s house. Once my dad’s birthday has passed, I’ll go back with you.”

Ye Zhanxing’s death was like a thorn, deeply embedded in Qin Youxuan’s heart.

Whenever it was mentioned, the pain would start all over again.

She couldn’t guarantee that she’d always be able to control her emotions, nor that she wouldn’t have impulsive quarrels with Dan Hanjie.

Rather than living on edge, it was better to separate for the time being. This way, they could avoid the risk of constant fighting.

“The fact that you still won’t leave proves that you’re still bothered.” Dan Hanjie held onto her tightly, terrified that if he let her remain at the Ye Family’s house, it would lead to another endless cycle of separation.

“That was my father. How could I possibly not care at all?!” Qin Youxuan’s voice rose as she shouted, meeting Dan Hanjie’s startled black eyes. She swallowed hard and turned her back to him, unwilling to continue the conversation.

“Dan Hanjie, can you leave the Ye Family first? Please?” Qin Youxuan softened her tone, gently persuading him.

“Wherever you are, that’s where I’ll be. If you’re staying, then I’ll wait for you.”
