Chapter 15 Confused Relationships
Old Man Wang laughed beside him, "Just throw it back into the sea. It's useless."
Nao Nao ran over. "Uncle, can you not throw it back? Can you give it to me?"
He was about to touch the fish when Hao Jie Ning stopped him. "Are you looking for a scolding again?"
Bai Ma Shan saw Nao Nao pouting and said with a smile, "Nao Nao, Uncle will find a small bucket to put this pufferfish in. You can just watch it, don't touch it, okay?"
Nao Nao immediately nodded. "Thank you, Uncle."
Jia Wen Jun walked to the stern of the boat. Her rod bent sharply, and she pulled up another three-jin blackfish.
"Wow, Little Jia caught another one! Amazing!" Lu Mao Wang was thinking about how to strike up a conversation with Jia Wen Jun, and this opportunity came.
He trotted over, wanting to help, but Jia Wen Jun didn't give him a chance. She skillfully removed the fish from the hook in one smooth motion, appearing exceptionally dashing. She didn't need his help at all.
Lu Mao Wang acted as if he didn't understand Wen Jun's intention to ignore him and took her fish pliers to clamp the fish's lip, lifting it up. "Not bad, such a big black grouper. Stewed with tofu, it'll be incredibly delicious."
Old Man Wang also put down his fishing rod to look at the fish. It was indeed a black rockfish, locally called blackfish or black grouper, a very common type of grouper. This fish gives a strong pull when it bites. Weighing this much, it must have been exciting to catch.
The old man thought about the small fish in his box and felt incredibly envious. If he could catch such a big fish, he could brag about it to his old fishing buddies for a year.
But he wouldn't use Jia Wen Jun's method of fishing with a lure and walking around. He also thought it was unreliable. He could only sigh a few times and return to his seat to fish.
Bai Ma Shan got a bucket for Nao Nao and also went over to see what the commotion was about. Looking at the big blackfish, he laughed, "Little Jia, you're a hidden talent."
Wen Jun said modestly, "Just lucky."
"The first time is luck, the second time is skill. Besides, luck is also part of skill."
Gong Da Long also came over to show his presence. "Dean Bai, you don't know, Little Jia is a versatile member of our office. She does a great job at work, has many hobbies, and is now so good at fishing. Our property staff is pretty good, right?"
Bai Ma Shan nodded. "Your community's property staff is very dedicated, and their professionalism is beyond reproach."
Teacher Lin also joined in. "That's right. At my previous job, my colleagues often talked about their community. None of the terrible things they encountered in their communities happen here. The service level of our property management is among the best in the city. When people talk about our community, everyone gives a thumbs up."
These words made Manager Gong feel extremely comfortable. He turned to look at Li Li. "You should also learn from Little Jia and catch more fish. Tonight, we're going to have a sumptuous and unforgettable sea fishing dinner together."
Li Li didn't know how to fish, but hearing Manager Gong say this, she had no choice but to come out of the shade in the rest area. Holding a fishing rod, she didn't want to walk around the boat like Jia Wen Jun. She found a sheltered spot, asked Old Man Wang some basic questions, and Bai Ma Shan helped her hook the bait. Then, she pretended to cast the rod into the sea, but she accidentally threw it onto Old Man Wang's fishing rod.
"Oh, Li Li, you've tangled the lines," Old Man Wang said, annoyed, as he went over to remove her rod. Just as he was about to lift it, he saw the rod shaking.
Old Man Wang's eyes lit up, and he shouted, "Got one!" Then, he desperately reeled in the line. Soon, two flat fish were dragged onto the deck by Old Man Wang.
Li Li didn't expect to be so lucky. She had just put down the bait and caught a fish. When the fish were dragged up, she found that there were two. She excitedly shouted everywhere that her rod had caught a fish, and finally, she triumphantly yelled in Jia Wen Jun's direction, "Fishing isn't that hard!"
"What kind of fish is this?" Manager Gong was very happy that Li Li had caught a fish. He came over and looked curiously at the two greenish-gray fish. The fish looked like horse faces, with round, puckered little mouths and pointed, monkey-like cheeks. The surface of the fish skin was as rough as sandpaper.
"This is a filefish, scientific name *Stephanolepis cirrhifer*," Bai Ma Shan said.
Although his fishing skills were average, he often went to the fish market to buy groceries, so he recognized the common fish species here.
Gong Da Long's hometown was in an inland city, and he came here after starting work, so he didn't know much about sea fish. After hearing Bai Ma Shan's explanation, he looked enlightened. "So this is a filefish! I've only seen it on the table before, so I didn't recognize it in the water."
"This fish has to be peeled several times when you cook it. It's normal that you don't recognize it. With the skin peeled off, who would recognize it?" Li Li said with a smile.
"Grilled filefish is delicious," Nao Nao said, smacking his lips.
"Okay, we'll grill filefish." Manager Gong smiled and turned to Sun Jiao Jiao and Teacher Lin and the others. "Ladies, we're counting on you to prepare today's meal."
Although Manager Gong said "you," his eyes were looking at Sun Jiao Jiao.
When Jia Wen Jun reeled in her line and turned around, she clearly saw Manager Gong winking at Sun Jiao Jiao.
She felt a little nauseous and turned to another place to cast her line.
Jia Wen Jun knew about Manager Gong's secret relationship with Sun Jiao Jiao, whether others did or not.
It was one night six months ago when Jia Wen Jun left her phone in the property office. She only realized it after dinner and went back to the office with the property keys.
On Saturday and Sunday nights, there was no one on duty in the property office. When Wen Jun arrived at the door, she was about to use the key to open the outer door when she discovered that the door wasn't locked at all.
At the time, she wondered who was so careless that they forgot to lock the door when they left. What if something was lost?
The property company had two floors. The upper floor was the manager's private office, while Jia Wen Jun and the other property staff were crammed together on the first floor.
Her workstation was not far from the door. As soon as she entered, she saw her phone lying quietly on her desk.
She picked up her phone and saw that her mother had called her several times. Afraid that her mother would be worried, she made a call back from the office and chatted for a while before hanging up. When she left, she made a point of locking the outer door before leaving.
She had just strolled back to her building when she received a call from Manager Gong, asking if she had gone to the office earlier. He was working overtime in the office tonight and asked her to quickly open the door for him. He would lock it himself when he left after working overtime.
Jia Wen Jun hung up the phone and came over to open the door for Gong Da Long. At the time, she found it very strange that Gong Da Long, who usually pushed even the smallest tasks to his subordinates, was now taking the initiative to work overtime, and on a Saturday night.
To find out what he was doing in the office, Jia Wen Jun opened the lock and waited nearby for a while.
More than ten minutes later, she saw a figure walking out of the property door. The figure didn't look like Gong Da Long at all. Upon closer inspection, wasn't it the owner of the restaurant outside the community?
Jia Wen Jun was shocked to see Gong Da Long sneaking out of the door, quickly locking it behind him before leaving.
Gong Da Long was working overtime with Sun Jiao Jiao in the office late at night. They were both adults. What didn't Jia Wen Jun understand?
The food at Jiao Jiao Restaurant was so average, but Gong Da Long was fixated on it. He had been ordering the property's lunch there for years. She had always thought that Sun Jiao Jiao had given Gong Da Long a kickback, but now she understood that the owner had given herself away.
