Chapter 23 The Dinner Party

Chapter 1 A Brief Respite

After all the commotion, it was finally quiet.

Everyone was quietly discussing what had just happened in small groups.

Anna looked at Bai Ma Shan from the second floor as he smoothed things over after the outburst. She had always looked down on this seemingly nice guy, thinking he was too "weak" and not man enough. But his performance just now made her look at him in a new light.

Sun Jiao Jiao, standing next to Bai Ma Shan, said directly, "Oh, I didn't realize you had such a fierce side, Brother Bai?"

Bai Ma Shan was a little embarrassed and quickly waved his hand. "I'm sorry, everyone. I lost my composure just now."

Lao Hu looked at Bai Ma Shan, who had returned to his "normal" self, and gave him a thumbs up. "You're still the best, Brother. You calmed down the whole farce with just one sentence."

Bai Ma Shan's performance had indeed surprised the onlookers, but thinking about it, it made sense. Business people liked harmony to make money, but that didn't mean they didn't have a temper. Bai Ma Shan had raised a child on his own for so many years and managed such a large pet hospital. If he didn't have a temper, he would have given up long ago. He wouldn't be where he was today.

It was just that this sudden reversal was a little hard for everyone to accept.

Bai Ma Shan smiled wryly. "I've made you all laugh. I didn't want to do that either, but I had no choice. We can't just keep arguing endlessly, can we?"

Lu Mao Wang also chimed in, "There's nothing to laugh at. That woman just doesn't know her place and starts biting people. You had to step in to deal with that shrew, Brother."

"Alright, let's not talk about what's in the past." Bai Ma Shan was afraid that Lu Mao Wang's loud voice would call Zhao Di out again, and he would have to go through it all over again. His act wouldn't work a second time.

Jia Wen Jun didn't say anything. She walked to the stern of the boat to comfort Da Huang, who had been tied there and barking madly. After the dog calmed down and lay down, she went to pick up her broken fishing rod.

Jia Wen Jun had two rods in her rod case. The broken one had been with her for more than two years and was a veteran that had witnessed countless of her sea fishing victories.

She had spent several thousand on it when she bought it. Expensive things only had one downside, their price, but they were indeed handy to use. She cherished it and carefully maintained it after every sea fishing trip. It was still a little sad to break it to vent her anger this time. After all, it wasn't worth it for such a person!

With her favorite rod gone, Jia Wen Jun was no longer in the mood for fishing. She'd just eat as much fish as there was tonight, since she couldn't eat anything anyway.

The sun was setting, painting the sea red. The anchored yacht swayed in the ripples of the sea. In the red light of the distance, a fishing boat slowly passed by, the line of water cut open by the boat, carrying the sound of "哒哒哒" of the engine.

Jia Wen Jun stared intently at the small boat in the distance, sighing almost imperceptibly. At this moment, she really wanted to jump on that boat and have it take her back to port. She had had enough of this ridiculous sea fishing trip.

Gong Da Long couldn't let the atmosphere continue to be so gloomy. He clapped his hands and said to everyone, "Now that we have the ingredients and it's almost time, let's start preparing for the party tonight."

Li Li was the first to respond, "Okay, I'll wash the fruit and make desserts. Nao Nao, let's inflate the balloons and decorate the deck."

The child, hearing that there was food and games, naturally agreed happily.

Everyone came out to have fun, and no one wanted to be gloomy all the time. Under Gong Da Long's encouragement, everyone finally got moving.

Hao Jie Ning joined Li Li's ranks, helping with the lighter tasks.

Sun Jiao Jiao, as the owner of a restaurant, kept clamoring to show everyone her skills, saying that she would do the cooking tonight. She went into the kitchen early and didn't forget to pull Gong Da Long in to help her.

Bai Ma Shan and Lao Hu and the other men were responsible for lighting the charcoal by the barbecue grill. Lu Mao Wang turned his head from time to time to look at Jia Wen Jun standing at the stern of the boat, and couldn't help but shout, "Xiao Jia, come and help. We're not very good at grilling these fish."

Bai Ma Shan and Lao Hu had already cleaned up the fish that had fallen on the deck earlier and washed them. In fact, they could handle the work of cleaning the fish and grilling it, but Lu Mao Wang wanted to spend more time with Jia Wen Jun, so he insisted on calling her over.

Jia Wen Jun's gaze returned from the small boat in the distance, blinked her tired eyes, and rubbed her temples. She told herself, "It's only two days, just bear with it."

She adjusted her mood, and when she turned around from the stern of the boat, the loathing from before was gone, replaced by the professional smile of a property manager.

Lu Mao Wang quickly waved her over, asking her to sit in the chair next to him.

Jia Wen Jun didn't refuse and sat down to help take out the fish soaked in bloody water, washing each one clean, marinating them, and arranging them neatly. She talked and chatted with them the whole time, her tone light, not mentioning what had just happened, and without a trace of complaint.

Lu Mao Wang liked Jia Wen Jun's calm and composed demeanor. Clearly, she had been splattered with dirty water by that shrew, but she didn't jump up and down in anger. Instead, she counterattacked unhurriedly.

As a result, Zhao Di was so angry that she went back to her room, and she could still laugh and joke with everyone as if nothing had happened. It was obvious that she didn't care about Zhao Di at all. Lu Mao Wang felt that Jia Wen Jun really had the aura of a main wife. Such a stable personality was sure to bring prosperity to her husband. If the family was handed over to her to manage in the future, there would really be nothing to worry about.

Thinking this, he moved closer to Jia Wen Jun, helping her clean the fish together.

Jia Wen Jun unobtrusively moved towards Bai Ma Shan. Bai Ma Shan saw through it but didn't say anything, and said to Lu Mao Wang, "We'll have a picnic on the deck later. Why don't you come with me to move the chairs from the entertainment room to the deck and fix them down?"

Lu Mao Wang wanted Lao Hu to go, but then he heard Jia Wen Jun say, "Those chairs are quite heavy. Be careful when you move them."

He immediately changed his mind and patted his chest, saying, "What's a little thing like that? I can handle it myself."

In order to let Jia Wen Jun see his strength, Lu Mao Wang didn't let Bai Ma Shan go with him and ran to the entertainment room to carry the chairs out on his shoulders, one by one, and then fixed them on the deck. He thought that his mighty figure was being watched by Jia Wen Jun, but in fact, Jia Wen Jun didn't look at him at all, but was talking to Bai Ma Shan next to her.

Jia Wen Jun was really grateful to her neighbor. Although he didn't talk much, he would always silently help at the right time. She was also a little surprised that he had suddenly lost his temper, after all, she had never seen him speak loudly in all the time she had known him. But when she thought about the fact that the object of his anger was Zhao Di, Jia Wen Jun wasn't surprised at all.

The chairs and benches were all fixed on the deck, and Li Li and Hao Jie Ning put the fruits and pastries they had brought on the boat one by one. With the balloons and colored lights added, the atmosphere of the party came out.

Everyone's enthusiasm was high, the aroma of grilled fish wafted from the barbecue grill, and dishes of delicacies were brought out from the kitchen. Lu Mao Wang took out a case of beer and baijiu that he had brought.

The dots of light circling the hull of the ship were reflected in the sea, accompanied by the aroma of food, forming a small island of joy on the silent and dark sea. The sea fishing dinner had officially begun.
