Chapter 83 Shifting the Blame (II)
"What do you mean?" Jia Wenjun said coldly.
A strange smile appeared on his face, "You've been targeted. There's no escape."
Jia Wenjun stared at his eyes, gleaming like a thief's in the darkness, and gritted her teeth, "Do you know something? Do you know who the murderer is?"
Lu Maowang didn't speak.
"You know! You know I'm being framed. You clearly know, but you watched as everyone treated me like a murderer. You concealed the truth; you're an accomplice!"
Lu Maowang scoffed. "Accomplice? If I were an accomplice, would I be in this state? Instead of thinking about that, you'd better think about how to quell the anger of those people outside."
Da Huang, frightened by the people outside, darted back and paced anxiously around Jia Wenjun.
"Jia Wenjun, you bitch! Get out here!" The shrill, frantic voice belonged to Hao Jiening.
"Everyone, calm down. We walked back with Jia Wenjun just now. The situation was dangerous, and she couldn't have had the time or energy to damage the phone. Even if the phone is now broken, it was accidentally damaged while wading back, not deliberately," Bai Ma Shan's voice was getting closer.
"Bai Ma Shan, it's come to this, and you're still defending her? She destroyed all hope of rescue so that the rescue team wouldn't come to save us. She wants to drag us down with her. Do you still think we're wronging her?" Anna's voice dripped with sarcasm.
"That murderous jinx! She wants to kill us!" Teacher Lin's voice cracked as she shouted, wishing she could tear Jia Wenjun to pieces.
Jia Wenjun finally understood. The phone she had risked her life to retrieve was broken, and because it was on her, they were accusing her of deliberately breaking it.
Jia Wenjun was both angry and scared, and her whole body trembled. She knew that the real killer had done this, and their goal was to make her unable to defend herself and become the target of everyone's anger.
She pinched her thigh hard, forcing herself to calm down. She couldn't let her emotions control her now.
The pain quickly brought her back to reason. She remembered that her bag was still on her when she came back. After she fell, she felt someone pull the bag off her, but she was too groggy to know who took it.
And at sea, besides Lili who had touched the phone, there were Anna and her. Anna carried it for the first part of the journey, and she carried it for the second part, so she wasn't the only one who had contact with the phone. They were all pushing it on her because someone was deliberately guiding them.
Bai Ma Shan outside couldn't stop them anymore; he could only raise his voice. "I can understand how you all feel, but venting your emotions won't solve anything. Let's talk calmly, be rational, and sort things out."
"Isn't it clear enough? Jia Wenjun is afraid of being caught, so she doesn't want the rescue team to save us and deliberately broke my phone!" Teacher Lin was furious.
Jia Wenjun knew she couldn't hide any longer. She endured the pain in her leg, slowly stood up, and walked towards the door, supporting herself on the edge of the cabin.
Seeing her appear at the door, everyone rushed in, their faces full of anger.
Bai Ma Shan couldn't stop them and could only say to Jia Wenjun urgently, "What are you doing out here?"
"I'm here to explain that I didn't break the phone."
As soon as she finished speaking, Teacher Lin suddenly rushed up and slapped Jia Wenjun across the face without a word, "You're hopeless, you're a demon!"
Jia Wenjun, slapped for no reason and called a demon, clenched her fists, but her upbringing prevented her from attacking an old woman, and she could only suffer in silence.
Fortunately, Bai Ma Shan rushed over and pulled Teacher Lin away. "Teacher Lin, what are you doing? You can't hit her, no matter what."
Teacher Lin was hysterical. "This was bought for me by my son, my son's survival tool, and she destroyed it. I wouldn't regret beating her to death!"
The already weak Jia Wenjun was almost knocked off her feet by the slap. She supported herself on the door frame and held on, "You keep saying that I broke the phone. Three people had contact with this phone. Lili and Anna also touched it. Why do you say I did it? What evidence do you have to prove that I broke it? If you can't produce evidence, what you're doing to me today is intentional assault, and I will get it all back, one by one."
"If it wasn't you, who else could it be? Everyone on this ship wants to go back except you, who's afraid of being caught and doesn't want to return. You broke my things, what's wrong with me slapping you?" Teacher Lin didn't expect Jia Wenjun to want to sue her, which made her even angrier.
"That's right, you destroyed the hopes of the whole ship! You deserve to be beaten to death." Hao Jiening couldn't help but want to teach Jia Wenjun a lesson, but was stopped by Old Man Wang.
Old Man Wang wasn't trying to help Jia Wenjun, but felt that Bai Ma Shan was right. If a real fight broke out, things would get out of control, and no one would be able to stay out of it.
Jia Wenjun knew that these people wouldn't listen to her explanation, but she still had to say, "The phone was initially with Lili, and then Anna took it for a while. When we were walking back, I was carrying it. I was always walking ahead, making it difficult to even walk steadily, let alone have a free hand to damage the phone. If I had really tampered with the phone, the three of them were behind me and could see everything clearly. How could they let me damage the phone? Big Brother Bai was right behind me; he can testify for me."
Anna sneered, "You deliberately threw the torch into the water on the way back. There was no light, so even if we were following closely behind, we couldn't see what you were doing in front."
Jia Wenjun was about to retort when a woman's voice spoke faster than her, "Didn't you also take the phone away from us for a while before? If we're talking about suspicious behavior, you're also a suspect."
Everyone turned to look, and found that the person speaking was actually Lili.
Anna had been watching as all the accusations were directed at Jia Wenjun, but who knew that a troublemaker would appear at this time.
She was furious and said coldly, "If that's the case, you're the most suspicious. Only you know what you did with the phone before we arrived."
"I"
The situation, which had been going well, instantly turned into mutual accusations. Anna really didn't know how Lili's brain worked, preferring to drag herself down with her in order to make her look bad, a classic case of killing one thousand enemies and losing eight hundred of your own.
While Anna cursed Lili in her heart, she also cursed herself. They say you shouldn't argue with fools, and she had lost her temper and quarreled with that fool in the sea before, so now that fool was jumping out to show off her presence.
Sigh, calling her a豬队友 (zhū duì yǒu, pig teammate - useless teammate) was an insult to pigs.
Lili glared coldly, "What am I suspected of? I answered the phone before you came to save me. It was Teacher Lin's son calling. I told him everything I needed to say, and he will help us call the police. Even if the phone is now useless, it won't delay our rescue. I saved everyone. You don't have to be grateful, but you're still saying I'm a suspect?"
These words made Anna's face pale instantly. Before, Lili, like Jia Wenjun, had passed out as soon as she returned, and no one paid attention to her. Everyone was only concerned about the phone call.
She thought that Lili hadn't received the call, but she not only received it, but also had someone call the police. She didn't quite know what was going on with this satellite phone, whether they could find their location based on the phone number dialed. She was flustered, and only hoped that the coast guard wouldn't arrive so quickly.
