Chapter 118 Seeking Help
Jia Wenjun felt like every second was a year in the hospital ward.
She knew that the reason she hadn't been summoned to the police station was likely because she was injured. But with the video in their possession, the police would likely detain her soon.
Before being detained, she had to find a way to see her parents. Fortunately, the police hadn't immediately detained her, or she might not have had the chance.
Time was precious to her now. She needed her parents to find a reliable defense lawyer for her immediately.
Jia Wenjun's parents had been waiting outside the hospital ever since they learned their daughter was there. As soon as the nurse told them they could go in, the two elderly people trotted to their daughter's room.
Pushing open the door, they saw their daughter sitting on the bed, already looking emaciated.
"Dad, Mom," Jia Wenjun said, her voice choked with emotion as she saw her family. Because of the injury to her leg, she could only sit on the bed and reach out to them.
"Junjun!" Jia's mother's eyes instantly turned red as she rushed over to hug the daughter she had been thinking about day and night.
Jia's father turned away to wipe his eyes, and only went over to pat his daughter's back after he had composed himself. "It's good that you're back, good that you're back."
"Junjun, how's your injury?"
"Mom, it's okay. The doctor already took care of it after I got back."
"Good, good." The mother and daughter hugged and cried for a while. Jia Wenjun didn't dare waste any more time, and told them roughly what had happened on the ship, urging them to hire a criminal lawyer for her as soon as possible.
After hearing about the grievances their daughter had suffered on the ship, Jia's parents were initially furious, clenching their fists in anger. But after hearing that their daughter had become a criminal suspect, they were stunned for a long time.
Jia's mother slumped, her body going limp. "Junjun, are you saying that they're framing you for murder?"
Jia's father looked at his daughter with a grim expression. "Junjun, tell Dad the truth. Did you kill anyone? If you really made a mistake in a moment of confusion, Mom and Dad will go with you to turn yourself in. No matter how many years you're sentenced to, Mom and Dad will wait for you to come home. But if they're wronging you, Mom and Dad will spare no expense to hire the best lawyer for you and get justice!"
As soon as she heard this, Jia's mother started yelling at her husband, "What nonsense are you talking about! How could our daughter possibly kill anyone!"
Jia's father just stared at his daughter, not saying a word. He wanted his daughter to tell him herself.
Jia Wenjun took a deep breath, her face clear. "Dad, you've taught me since I was little to be wary of others, but never to harm them. I was wrong about people before, but after breaking up with Lin Yang, I never thought about having anything to do with him again, let alone killing Zhao Di because of him. I always remember my job responsibilities and don't want to cause trouble. Even though Zhao Di repeatedly provoked me on the ship, I tolerated it as long as it didn't cross my bottom line. I've already decided that I'll submit my resignation letter after this sea fishing trip. I want to go home and be with you. I wouldn't ruin my own life for someone like her who has nothing to do with me. Her disappearance has nothing to do with me. I don't know what's going on with that video. If I wasn't sure I hadn't done it, I would have thought the person in the video was me. Dad, the person who framed me knows my habits and style of dress very well. I suspect they planned this."
Jia's mother trembled as she listened. "Are you saying that they planned to frame you from the beginning? Who would do this, and why?"
Jia Wenjun frowned, shaking her head blankly. "I can't be sure if they planned it from the beginning, but everything that happened on the ship makes me feel like it wasn't a coincidence."
Jia's father clenched his fists in anger, his face grim. "Junjun, Mom and Dad won't stand by and watch you be wronged and bullied. Don't worry, Dad will do everything he can to get justice for you!"
Jia Wenjun looked at her parents, their faces pale with anger. Although she felt sorry for them, she still spoke rationally. "Mom and Dad, although the police haven't detained me yet, they have that video. I suspect that after the hospital confirms there's nothing wrong with my body, I'll be imprisoned soon. Before I find evidence to clear my name, you may not be able to see me again. Only a lawyer can meet with me during the investigation phase of the case. You have to hurry and hire a reliable criminal lawyer for me."
Jia's mother completely panicked. "Junjun, will they really lock you up?"
Jia Wenjun hugged her mother tightly. Although her future was uncertain, she still wanted to comfort her mother. "Mom, don't worry. I haven't done anything harmful. The police won't wrong any good people, nor will they let any bad people go. I will definitely be able to clear my name."
Jia's father took out his phone and opened his contacts, only to realize that the connections he knew were all in his city. He didn't really know any lawyers in Hong Kong City.
He called his friends in the public security bureau and the judiciary, asking them which law firm was the best in Hong Kong City. They recommended Jingcheng Law Firm, saying that a lawyer named Liu Ping led a criminal defense team that was very famous and the best defense team in Hong Kong City.
After hanging up the phone, Jia's father was about to dial 114 to find the phone number of Jingcheng Law Firm when Jia's mother suddenly said, "Xiao Wu, Xiao Wu said before that he works at that Jingcheng Law Firm. Hurry up and ask him."
Jia's father had been so anxious just now that he had forgotten about Wu Peng. Now that his wife reminded him, he quickly found Wu Peng's phone number and dialed it.
At this time, Wu Peng was in the hospital, feeding his grandfather fish porridge. After a comprehensive examination, the old man was fine except for some scratches and bruises.
The old man was telling his grandson in a loud voice which of his injuries were from fighting the drug dealers and which were from jumping off the boat to escape.
Afraid that the old man would get too excited, Wu Peng kept feeding him porridge, trying to shut him up with food.
"What's wrong with you, kid? Don't feed me while I'm talking."
"Eat first and then talk."
"I'll talk first and then eat."
Just as the grandfather and grandson were putting on a show of "encirclement and suppression," Wu Peng's phone rang.
Looking at the number, Wu Peng answered, "Uncle Jia."
"Xiao Wu, are you a lawyer at Jingcheng Law Firm?"
Wu Peng paused for half a second. "Yes, I am."
"Then do you know lawyer Liu Ping?"
Wu Peng: "Yes, he's my superior."
As soon as Jia's father heard this, he thought, "This is just what I needed!" He immediately said, "Xiao Wu, are you free now? Can you introduce me to lawyer Liu Ping? I want to talk to him."
Wu Peng had been with his grandfather all morning and was relieved to know that he was okay. Hearing what Uncle Jia said, he immediately said, "I'm free. Where are you now? I'll come find you." kuaishuge
Ordinary people don't look for lawyers unless something is wrong. Uncle Jia must have encountered something urgent.
Seeing that he was leaving, the old man said grumpily, "Where are you going again?"
Wu Peng picked up his bag. "Something came up at the law firm. I'll be out for a while. What do you want to eat this afternoon? I'll buy it for you."
Hearing that it was work, the old man quickly urged, "Go quickly. The hospital has food, so you don't have to worry about me. Work is important."
