147: Chapter 67: Hair-Raising Auditory Hallucinations 147: Chapter 67: Hair-Raising Auditory Hallucinations Lin Yi took a heavy step forward.
As he moved, Lin Yi’s entire world seemed to be on the verge of collapse.
He knew his vision was finally failing him.
In a shattered world of light, shadow, and warped greys, maintaining normal sight was proving to be incredibly difficult.
Without ceasing, he reminded himself, “I am a student, my name is Lin Yi, my Student ID card number is X0230506098,” focusing all his attention on the ‘Dormitory building-096’ lamppost.
With each step, it felt as though he engaged a gear.
The turning gear moved the jigsaw that made up the world, causing the lamppost in front of him to unfold like a blooming flower, along with its base and the Cobblestone beneath, until the whole world seemed to lose its X, Y, Z axes, turning into a lump of limp dough.
Moving through the world felt like trudging through a swamp, each step extraordinarily strenuous.
He could feel ‘Dormitory building-095’ disappearing behind him, while ‘Dormitory building-096’ remained frustratingly out of reach ahead.
He kept walking, one step at a time, as the ground beneath his feet subtly began to lose its inherent properties.
When his foot fell, the point where it met the ground clearly expanded outwards, spreading dense, spiderweb-like cracks.
However, though he should have felt like he was treading on thin ice, his feeling was more like stepping on a sticky rice dumpling.
Squishy, chewy, and even carrying a bizarre sense of imbalance, he almost tripped and fell.
He bit down on his teeth so hard that he nearly crushed his molars.
He exhaled deeply, his breath coming out hot from his mouth and nose, and a low growl issuing from his throat.
As if responding to the heatwave akin to a steam locomotive, Wei Liang’s grip on his shoulder involuntarily loosened slightly, as if scalded.
“Don’t let go!”
Lin Yi placed his hand over Wei Liang’s.
“I said I would take you with me, and that’s what I’m going to do!”
He stared intently at the ‘Dormitory building-096’ lamppost in front of him, issuing a rough yet determined sound from his throat.
At that moment, the ghostly white Mist started surging wildly, clawing and twisting outside the fractured domain of light.
Under the light, the layered mist chased after Lin Yi’s silhouette like dark tentacles.
They did not exist, yet Lin Yi’s heart felt as if it had induced something indescribable, presaging the emergence of something utterly unreasonable and strange behind him!
‘Rustle, rustle, rustle…’
‘Rustle, rustle, rustle…’
‘Rustle, rustle, rustle…’
Lin Yi seemed like the most tempting treat, attracting wave after wave of undisguised, greedy, malevolent gazes filled with pure Malice and desire to kill!
The extraordinary weather finally arrived, darkness fell like a storm, sweeping in from All Directions.
Suddenly, Lin Yi realized the distorted and softened ‘Cobblestone path’ under his feet had become slippery and sticky.
He guessed something, he sensed something, but his Spirit had already become much tougher than 24 hours ago after a day’s ordeal.
His first instinct was to tell himself:
“I’m almost at the Dormitory building, to hell with the extraordinary weather!”
He dared not look at what the path had turned into, nor think about anything related to it.
He was already wrapped in the icy blast, with the howling wind carrying a sound of swirling air, the almost imperceptible slapping noise seeping through the cyclones, much like waves crashing against the rocks and breaking into countless splashes.
Within these fragmented waves of sound, a wholly discontinuous and malevolent noise was faintly mixed.
Beasts had their roars, plants their rustles, and mountains, rocks, and waves their own melodies.
However, when the natural sounds tangled and twisted together, whipped into an eerie rhythm by the whining gales, a chilling sensation instantaneously enveloped Lin Yi’s heart like a tide.
The deep bellows and piercing screeches sounded like a storm of agony bursting from the abyss, singing unrestrainedly in the night’s frenzy as if emitting a strange, frenzied, and mad sense of ritual.
Steam seemed to burst from Lin Yi’s body as if he were being dragged into the tempest.
A powerful sensation of suffocation enveloped him, his limbs growing icy, a coldness gathering along his spine.
He strained to reach out for the ‘Dormitory building-096’ lamppost, the wailing wind roaring in his ears, an invisible spiral threatening to consume his soul.
In a state of mental haze, Lin Yi heard faint sounds that should not be heard, blending with the storm of pain.
As if coming from a very distant, forsaken, and broken world, they seemed composed of dry, desolate, indescribable ancient scales, shrill at times and deep at others, like a Witch doctor/priest singing a heart-erosive, spine-chilling phrase or Incantation with cries and hoarse voices:
‘I AvgruNnen av tåKe og mørke jaGer forTapte Sjeler fanTome’
These irrational and unheard sound waves threatened to tear apart his spirit.
In the nick of Time, Lin Yi’s Instinct for combat stress kicked in, taking control of his body.
A low roar began to emit from his throat.
