Chapter 1791: Chapter 1818: The Most Lethal Imaginary Assumptions
"What spirit creature?"
Li Xiaobai and Yu Huan Shui were on guard secretly, and spoke lightly.
"Thousands of spirit creatures suppressed here personally by Senior Brother Lingtai..."
"Eh, wait, you’re... Wuhu!"
Arhat Jianglong was speaking when he realized something was amiss. He recognized the young figure in front of him. It was Wuhu, who had caused chaos in the Pure Land, released the Qilin Divine Beast, and blasted away half of the monastery!
Wasn’t he supposed to have fled hurriedly that day? How did he suddenly appear here?
"No...that’s not right. A few days ago, this poor monk was searching the mountain, clearing the overlooked spirit creatures. He couldn’t have had the chance to enter. He sneaked in during the brief oversight while the formation was being completed and then entered this large formation."
"I understand now. He broke into the formation and was possessed by a spirit creature. The one standing here is probably no longer Wuhu himself but a powerful spirit creature with a physical form!"
Subduing Tiger’s expression changed drastically, blurting out.
Jianglong’s face slightly changed upon hearing this, knowing that Subduing Tiger was right. Only possession could explain why this fellow named Wuhu would appear inside the formation and never leave.
"Two people came in, and the formation trapped nearly ten thousand spirit creatures. Did you kill the other spirit creatures and finally seize possession of these two bodies?"
Both Jianglong and Subduing Tiger subconsciously stepped back. To eliminate other contenders and successfully seize physical bodies, they could only think of spirit thought-level spirit creatures as the explanation. Spirit thought-level spirit creatures are on par with Master Lingtai, requiring intervention from the Buddha to suppress them. Now, not only have two appeared at once, but they also have bodies, which is beyond their ability to handle.
Faced with the self-questioning and answering of the two arhats, Li Xiaobai and Yu Huan Shui exchanged glances, seeing the confusion in each other’s eyes. Jianglong and Subduing Tiger seemed to have misunderstood, treating them as spirit creatures.
Li Xiaobai played along, stretching lazily and speaking in a low voice, "After so many years, finally out here. Where’s Lingtai? The first one I dealt with was him!"
Yu Huan Shui immediately got into character: "You two are quite filial, knowing I’ve escaped, specially brought so many ingredients over. Just right, I’m a bit hungry. Have your disciples and grandsons come over right away, I want a feast!"
"So it is indeed like this. Standing here are two senior beings!"
"In the thirtieth formation, I remember there are exactly two spirit thought-level spirit creatures, both former high monks of the Buddhist Sect who defected from the Pure Land, their bodies severed by the Buddha, souls suppressed within the hundred thousand mountains."
"Ancient books record these two seniors, one named Wufa, the other Wutian!"
Jianglong and Subduing Tiger were in a state of shock, for a moment unsure whether to be happy or fearful. Happy because their plan succeeded, the spirit creatures indeed could possess cultivators’ bodies. But the problem is once possession is complete, the spirit creatures will entirely regain freedom. Does the current Buddhist Sect still have the power to control them?
"Two masters, please stay calm. Upon learning that Masters Wufa and Wutian have reappeared in the world, we specially brought ten thousand disciples from the Pure Land to pay homage. Would the seniors please follow us to Lingyin Temple for a discussion with Master Lingtai?"
Arhat Jianglong folded his hands, bowed, and spoke respectfully.
"See Lingtai?"
"That’s exactly who we seek. Lead the way!"
Li Xiaobai gestured grandly and said coldly.
"Understood!"
A breath later, thousands of disciples at the foot of the cliff watched as the two arhats decisively abandoned them, swiftly departing with Li Xiaobai and Yu Huan Shui.
Among the crowd, two bald heads were dumbfounded, and one of them rubbed his eyes: "Master Liaowang, am I hallucinating? I just mentioned Master and he appeared before me?"
Liaowang succinctly: "This little monk saw him too."
Ma Niubi scratched his bald head: "Really strange, we actually saw the same hallucination."
Liaowang: "If you saw Master Li, it means Master Li is indeed here on the mountaintop, taken away by the two arhats. Benefactor Ma and this little monk should follow suit."
...
Lingyin Temple, Task Hall.
Li Xiaobai and the others descended, and the hall had been expanded, grander than before, probably since the original main base point had been lost, they retreated to the depths of the mountain, taking the existing Task Hall as the abbot’s monastery.
"Please enter and rest. This poor monk will go inform Senior Brother Lingtai."
Arhat Jianglong led Li Xiaobai and Yu Huan Shui into a side room and said.
Li Xiaobai was unrestrained: "Bring wine and meat."
"Amitabha, we monks transcend worldly concerns, abstain from meat and alcohol. This poor monk will instruct the disciples to prepare vegetarian meals for the two masters."
Subduing Tiger Arhat recited a Buddhist mantra and spoke respectfully.
"Don’t pretend, the variety of wine and meat in your monastery surpasses the dishes in taverns. Quickly bring good wine and meat, is there any monk nowadays who eats vegetarian? But would I not know this?"
Li Xiaobai glared, angrily rebuking.
Jianglong and Subduing Tiger exchanged a look, dared not say more, slowly exited the room; their hearts increasingly certain of the two spirit creatures’ identities. Indeed, now the Pure Land can’t go without meat, but outwardly, they still eat vegetarian. Knowing this inner truth shows these two are indeed from the Buddhist Sect.
The door closed slowly.
"Yu’s a bit baffled, how suddenly are we treated as honored guests?"
Yu Huan Shui took out pen and ink, recording the recent happenings; it was indeed peculiar.
"The Pure Land’s plan is to merge monks with spirit creatures, either the monks control spirit creatures, or the monks are possessed by spirit creatures. Jianglong and Subduing Tiger see us as cultivators possessed by spirit creatures, and belong to the most formidable kind."
"Just right, we need to wait for the Second Senior Sister to act, resting a few days in this temple is no issue."
Li Xiaobai said, inadvertently brainstorming, the deadliest method. But who could blame the two arhats, who’d think a young cultivator had the skills to subdue tens of thousands of spirit creatures?
"Really nice, the hundred thousand mountains are great."
"Not to mention, dismantling thirty large formations enriched us, and being treated to good wine and meat by a Buddhist monastery, it’s practically the Immortal Realm."
"Judging by their cultivation, they’re barely at the Immortal Gods Realm. Strong individuals in the Pure Land might just include the Buddha, not a real threat."
Yu Huan Shui laughed to the point his mouth wouldn’t close. He felt like heaven was feeding him, serendipity arriving unstoppable.
"Speaking of, what’s the Immortal doing, she should have arrived at the Pure Land ahead of us, why haven’t we seen her act?"
"Thankfully, the Senior Sister didn’t act immediately, giving us a chance to catch our breath. Let’s first enjoy food and wine before talking."
A tea amount of time passed, and the door was knocked upon. Then several young nuns, carrying trays of various sizes, entered, laying out a full table of banquet.
Lingtai still knows how to handle things, deliberately replacing young novice monks with young nuns, the details were met with care.
Yu Huan Shui grabbed a chicken drumstick, gobbling it while ogling the plump curves of the nuns, the scene reminding him of a phrase: beauty that whets the appetite!
"To be honest, Yu feels like becoming a monk."
