False Court
Chapter 1363 Touched
Before long, Su Mo arrived at Hangar 2. After some effort, he located the standard-class Star Destroyer, Light Crystal.
Frowning slightly, Su Mo gazed at it from afar.
The Light Crystal's surface armor was scorched black. A gaping hole had been blasted through its central section, exposing charred wires that sparked intermittently.
Su Mo turned to the Creator Devourer, a hint of confusion in his voice. "I don't get it. Isn't the Light Crystal supposed to be a standard-class Star Destroyer? With its energy shields at full strength, how could it not withstand a single hit from the Na Shen? Both are Star Destroyers, but the performance gap seems way too big."
"Who told you the Light Crystal was a genuine Star Destroyer?"
The Creator Devourer retorted sarcastically.
"Wait, the Light Crystal isn't a Star Destroyer? How is that possible?"
Su Mo was starting to feel bewildered.
"Alright, let me enlighten you about the original classifications and distinctions of Star Destroyers, so you're not completely ignorant. In the early days, Star Destroyers were classified as follows: initially, any ship equipped with a Meteor Cannon and an Ark Heart could be called a standard-class Star Destroyer. Moving up the scale was the Enhanced-class Star Destroyer. In essence, these were existing Star Destroyers with reinforced armor, making them more resistant to damage and greatly enhancing their survivability."
"What about the Legendary-class Star Destroyer?"
"Legendary-class Star Destroyers were a level above Enhanced-class. Ships of this class typically possessed two Ark Hearts and both main and secondary cannons. The main cannon would be more powerful than a standard Meteor Cannon, and the firing ports would generally range from 10 million to 30 million units, along with special abilities."
The Creator Devourer explained.
Intrigued, Su Mo asked, "What's the special ability of the Immortal Blade?"
"Dual-engine synergy, allowing it to activate and use two Ark Hearts simultaneously, as well as short-range warp strikes."
"Oh, what about the Ancient Legendary-class Star Destroyer?"
"The Ancient-class Star Destroyer is a different beast altogether. Usually, ships of this class would have two to three power cores, with one of them replaced by a more advanced special power core instead of an Ark Heart. Furthermore, the main cannon would be much more powerful, with stronger armor and special abilities, and the number of firing ports would exceed 30 million."
The Creator Devourer provided a rough explanation to Su Mo.
"Oh, I see. So, what about the Light Crystal?"
Su Mo inquired.
"The Light Crystal uses a pseudo Ark Heart as its power core. What do you think?"
"No way. But isn't it clearly labeled as a standard-class Star Destroyer?"
"That name was specially chosen by those treacherous merchants in the City of Star Ring. As long as it has star-killing capabilities, it can be called a standard-class Star Destroyer, all to sell it at a higher price."
"Wait, but I remember seeing this ship in the Merit Exchange Depot too."
"What's so strange about that? The guys in Logistics need to make money too. There's nothing they wouldn't dare to do."
"They even do that? That's too much, passing off inferior goods as superior ones!"
"Well, you can't completely say that. Actually, the Light Crystal isn't a bad ship. It's cheap. And those merchants reinforced the surface armor, increasing its resistance to damage. Otherwise, it would have been blasted into smithereens by a single shot from an Ancient-class Star Destroyer. Plus, the Light Crystal is equipped with a Meteor Cannon. Although it takes a while to charge, its attack power is still decent. It's a classic warship. Normally, this ship can barely live up to the title of Star Destroyer when fighting ships below it."
The Creator Devourer responded.
"I get it, not good enough compared to the best, but better than the rest. So, which is stronger, this ship or the Phantom Flower?"
Su Mo asked curiously.
"The Phantom Flower is definitely stronger. Its overall performance is superior to the Light Crystal in every aspect."
The Creator Devourer replied bluntly.
"Understood."
Su Mo nodded, saying nothing more.
Just then, Su Mo noticed a middle-aged man in a lieutenant colonel's uniform, with streaks of gray in his hair, walking alone towards the wrecked Light Crystal, gazing at it with a complex expression.
If he wasn't mistaken, this middle-aged man must be the captain of the Light Crystal.
So, Su Mo walked over.
As Su Mo approached, the middle-aged man turned to look at him and gave him a salute.
"Officer Su Mo."
"Just call me Su Mo. You're the captain of this ship? May I know your name?"
Su Mo asked politely.
"I'm Barrymon, from the First Legion of the City of Star Ring, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel."
Barrymon said in a low voice.
"Thank you very much for taking that fatal blow for my ship. I heard your people suffered heavy casualties because of it."
Su Mo sincerely expressed his gratitude.
"It's what we should do. You don't need to thank us specifically or feel guilty. Our orders were to support your ship."
Barrymon shook his head, not intending to accept Su Mo's thanks.
"Receiving orders is one thing, but how many people would go to such lengths? So..."
Su Mo was interrupted by Barrymon before he could finish.
Barrymon sighed and said to Su Mo, "Officer Su Mo, let's not talk about this anymore. You don't need to dwell on it too much. Just consider it us returning a favor to your people."
"Hmm? When did you ever owe me a favor?"
Su Mo was confused. He had never even met this lieutenant colonel before.
"I'm from the Kingdom of Maton in the Second Breeding Ground, one of the weakest countries there. When the Second Breeding Ground was attacked, our planet was near the Mist Star. It wasn't far from falling either. Does that clear things up?"
Barrymon looked Su Mo in the eye as he spoke.
Su Mo froze, unsure of what to say.
"Officer Su Mo, let's leave it at that. You don't need to feel bad. I'm leaving."
After Barrymon finished speaking, he saluted Su Mo and turned to leave.
Su Mo watched his departing figure and sighed.
At that moment, the Creator Devourer's deep voice echoed in Su Mo's mind.
"Looks like you struck gold. You met such a single-minded person."
"Don't say that. Although this world is harsh, not everyone is ungrateful. Forget it, let's not discuss this. Let's go back and rest."
Su Mo replied with a heavy heart. In fact, he wanted to offer the other party compensation. But in the end, he decided to give up. After all, Lieutenant Colonel Barrymon had already said what he needed to say.
"Whatever you say."
The Creator Devourer remained unmoved, as if nothing irrelevant could affect it.
Su Mo turned and walked towards the elevator.
