160. The Curio Shop Owner

Two more days passed, and Jiang Yongguang and his team still hadn't caught Yang Guo.

This guy was a transient criminal in Ma Mu River, taking what he wanted and running. Catching him wasn't going to be easy.

As for the Ma Mu River tomb, it had been protected by the Xiaoling Guard. Most of the cultural relics had been recovered; Yang Guo hadn't managed to steal too much.

But just as Jiang Yongguang contacted the local authorities for a rescue excavation, bad news arrived—this usurped Ming Dynasty imperial tomb had suffered a severe collapse. The Ming tomb on the second underground level and the ancient Shu tomb on the third were completely destroyed. The main tomb chamber was heavily buried, and many cultural relics were also buried beneath.

It wasn't unexpected. Ancient architectural techniques were limited. Yao Guangxiao was ambitious, building a two-story tomb on top of an ancient Shu tomb that had already been excavated for thousands of years. Coupled with the frequent seismic activity in the Sichuan and Chongqing area, and the recent disturbances caused by Yang Guo and his gang, a collapse was only logical.

Unfortunately, the Xiaoling Guard would probably never find the crystal coffin locked at the bottom of the underground river.

I wasn't concerned about the situation of the Ma Mu River ancient tomb. The only thing I cared about was Xiaomei’s whereabouts.

I didn't care if Jiang Yongguang couldn't catch Yang Guo, but he had to find the White-Clad Immortal.

These past few days, whenever I had free time, I sent text messages to Jiang Yongguang and Xiao Liang, inquiring about the White-Clad Immortal. Jiang Yongguang was probably busy; he'd reply to at most one out of seven or eight messages. Xiao Liang, on the other hand, seemed very free; she replied to every message patiently.

On Friday, Uncle Mei asked me again to text Jiang Yongguang for updates. I had just picked up my phone, drafted a message, and sent it when I suddenly heard the notification sound of a new message from the yard entrance.

A moment later, footsteps approached, and Jiang Yongguang walked in smiling, holding his phone. "Goodness, I just got to the yard entrance, and you send me a message. You're doing this on purpose, aren't you?"

As soon as I saw him, I quickly asked, "What wind blew you here? Could it be you have news about the White-Clad Immortal and Xiaomei?"

Uncle Mei also quickly put down his work and came forward to greet him, waiting for Jiang Yongguang to speak.

He didn't beat around the bush, nodding and saying, "You guessed right. We do have leads."

Then, like a magician, he pulled two delicate bronze objects from his pocket.

I lowered my head to look and my expression changed immediately!

The two bronze objects were none other than the murder weapons used to kill Aunt Mei, the bronze throwing knives the White-Clad Immortal used to seal throats!

Uncle Mei said in a deep voice, "Da Yong, why did you bring these unlucky things here? What's the point?"

Jiang Yongguang smiled, playing with the two bronze daggers in his hand. The metal daggers clinked together, making a crisp sound.

He said, "Guess where I found these little trinkets?"

I narrowed my eyes and said, "You wouldn't have pulled them off the corpses of Yang Guo's men, would you?"

Jiang Yongguang shook his head. "How could I! Those are pieces of evidence in a murder case. Do you think I can just take them out to play with?"

I asked, "Then where did you get them?"

Jiang Yongguang didn't rush to answer me, but suddenly raised his hand and tossed a bronze dagger onto my thigh.

I was startled and quickly tried to dodge, but Jiang Yongguang laughed. "Don't worry, this thing isn't sharpened. It's very dull. It won't hurt you."

I then reached out and picked it up, feeling its cold blade.

Sure enough, the blade's touch was smooth and flat, not sharp at all. It wasn't sharpened.

The White-Clad Immortal's throwing knives were much sharper.

At this moment, Jiang Yongguang said, "I won't keep you in suspense. I'll tell you. These two bronze daggers were accidentally seen by a colleague of mine on Kuanzhai Alley. They're a local souvenir, little trinkets, usually sold to tourists as souvenirs."

I asked, "Aren't these fakes used by grave robbers to unload their goods? How did they become souvenirs?"

Jiang Yongguang said, "I took these things back and asked an expert. The expert said the craftsmanship was too modern, and they hadn't been rusted. They weren't qualified as fakes, at most just handicrafts from a curio shop."

"I see," I nodded slightly.

Jiang Yongguang continued, "Later, I thought, since these things are the White-Clad Immortal's exclusive weapon, could we find her by starting with these bronze daggers? So I had my colleague follow the clues and secretly investigate. They asked around several factories that customized these bronze daggers, inquiring about customers who wholesale these crafts. Guess what happened?"

Uncle Mei and I immediately became excited and asked together, "Did you find them?"

"We found them."

Jiang Yongguang smiled faintly and pulled out a photo from his pocket, handing it to us.

I lowered my head to look and saw a pretty woman in her thirties in the photo.

This woman was tall, probably around 1.72 to 1.75 meters tall barefoot. Her long hair was tied up behind her head, making her look very charming. She had fair skin, charming peach blossom eyes, and delicate features. She was a somewhat aloof beauty.

She wasn't wearing white clothes in the photo, but rather a dark green cheongsam. But the moment I saw her, I immediately recognized her as the White-Clad Immortal.

"It's her! She's the White-Clad Immortal!" I said firmly.

"Are you sure?" Jiang Yongguang quickly confirmed with me.

I said I was sure. Her figure, her bearing, her temperament, from any angle, she looked exactly like the White-Clad Immortal.

Jiang Yongguang and Uncle Mei didn't doubt my words, because I was the one who had interacted with the White-Clad Immortal at close range.

Uncle Mei clenched his fists tightly and asked Jiang Yongguang, "Da Yong, where is she now? Have you caught her?"

Jiang Yongguang shook his head helplessly. "I definitely can't arrest someone based on just a photo and two bronze daggers. I still need Xiao Chen to help confirm her identity first. But I've already inquired in advance. This woman is called Ge Xueying. She's a self-employed individual and runs a curio shop on Kuanzhai Alley."

I said, "That makes it easier. We just need to go to her shop and catch her, right? The monk can run, but the temple can't!" (idiom: they can't escape)

Jiang Yongguang smiled wryly. "You're wrong about that. Both the monk and the temple have run away. I had my colleague go to look for her. It's said that this Ge Xueying vacated the shop a few months ago. Now the shop has been converted into a snack shop and has been taken over by another business."

"Vacated the shop a few months ago..." After hearing this news, I carefully calculated, saying, "Then I guess she ran to the Yazi River to dig a grave robber's hole? The timing is perfect! This Ge Xueying, she must be the White-Clad Immortal!"

"I think so too," Jiang Yongguang nodded, "If we find her, we can probably find Xiaomei!"

Hearing this, Uncle Mei and I both became excited.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go find her!" Uncle Mei shouted loudly.
