Chen Rongsheng
Chapter 30 Dragon Corpse
With the excited shouts of the Xiaoling Guards, we looked up and forward, only to see two magnificent and solemn bronze doors at the end of the dark passage.
The door in front of us was a bit smaller than the one at the entrance of the tomb, only about two meters high, but even so, these two bronze doors still exuded a majestic aura!
Only when I got closer did I realize that both doors had collapsed. They had completely fallen off their hinges and were leaning against the rock walls of the tomb.
Without a doubt, behind the bronze doors was the main burial chamber of this ancient Shu tomb.
"I wonder which Shu king is buried in this tomb? Could it be the legendary Cancong? Or Yufu, or even Duyu..."
Xiao Liang said with anticipation.
Jiang Yongguang glanced at her and said approvingly, "You really are a college student. You know quite a bit about the history of the ancient Shu Kingdom. Let me test you. Do you know the most important achievements of these three emperors of the ancient Shu Kingdom?"
Xiao Liang thought for a moment and replied, "Legend has it that Cancong taught people how to raise silkworms, hence the character 'silkworm' in his name. Yufu taught people how to fish, expanding the fishery of the Shu Kingdom. Duyu led the people in agriculture, helping the ancient Shu Kingdom evolve from a hunting and fishing era to an agricultural era."
Jiang Yongguang nodded in satisfaction after hearing this and said, "Correct answer. College students are different."
Listening to their discussion, I felt like an illiterate. I'm not afraid of being laughed at, but I had never even heard of names like Cancong, Yufu, or Duyu before.
As we spoke, we arrived at the entrance to the main burial chamber. At this point, Jiang Yongguang signaled us to lower our voices and be vigilant. Because Tu Xingsun had said that there might still be surviving tomb robbers inside the main burial chamber searching for treasure.
He didn't rush in, but stood at the entrance of the tomb chamber, looking inside.
The light from his headlamp flashed, and then I saw many tall and burly figures!
This scene made me instantly gasp. Uncle Mei was also frightened and muttered, "So many people!"
Jiang Yongguang whispered, "Tomb robbers are timid. They would have been scared away by the noise long ago. They wouldn't be standing in the tomb chamber waiting for us. These figures aren't people."
Sure enough, as the beam of the headlamp shone on the figures, I realized that they were all lifelike bronze statues. They were arranged on both sides of the main burial chamber, like a welcoming honor guard, holding weapons that looked a bit like golf clubs in their hands, standing guard motionless.
Jiang Yongguang carefully observed and listened for any movement. After confirming that there were no traces of tomb robbers inside, he tiptoed in.
We didn't dare to breathe loudly and followed him cautiously into the main burial chamber.
As I walked, I vigilantly watched the bronze statues on both sides. I didn't know if it was because I had watched too many ghost movies or if my imagination was too rich, but I always felt that these bronze statues might suddenly come to life and chop us with the weapons in their hands!
But the facts proved that I was overthinking it. There weren't so many fantastical and supernatural elements in the real world. These bronze statues didn't come to life, nor did they chop us.
It's just that one of the bronze statues, due to severe corrosion, suddenly collapsed like the statue at the entrance of the tomb, giving us a scare.
Other than that, these statues didn't cause any other trouble.
Unknowingly, we reached the center of the main burial chamber. While I was still worried about the bronze statues, Jiang Yongguang in front of the group suddenly gasped.
A calm person like him rarely made such a sound, so when I heard his gasp, I knew something big must have happened.
I looked up and forward, and then I couldn't help but gasp!
In the center of the main burial chamber was an unusually large skeleton!
The skeleton was larger than any other creature's skeleton I had ever seen. The only things that could compare to it were the dinosaur fossils I had seen on TV, or the skeletons of whales in the ocean!
The skull alone was at least five meters long and more than three meters high! It looked like the fossil of a Tyrannosaurus Rex skull!
Even more shocking was that the top of the skull had two antlers that resembled those of a deer!
I recognized it at a glance!
This was probably the skeleton of a dragon!
Not an ancient dinosaur, nor a mutated giant snake!
But a dragon!
The totem of China—the dragon!
I was stunned at the time and couldn't say a word for a long time.
Xiao Liang and Uncle Mei next to me were also dumbfounded, especially Xiao Liang. Even this knowledgeable college student couldn't explain what was in front of her!
Even Jiang Yongguang was dumbfounded, and said with a wry smile:
"What's going on? Could it be that we were all wrong? The owner of this tomb is not the ancient Shu royal family at all, but a real dragon? Is this actually an ancient dragon tomb?"
A Xiaoling Guard next to him said tremblingly, "Good heavens... So dragons really exist! There really are dragons in this world! It seems that the Yingkou dragon falling incident, the Heishanzi dragon falling incident... were all true!"
I was numb at the time, staring blankly at the dragon skeleton in front of me, feeling shocked and incredible!
Although I don't believe in ghosts, I am willing to believe that there are dragons in this world.
Especially after seeing the bones of an ancient dragon with my own eyes, I am even more convinced of this.
I stared blankly at this behemoth, and involuntarily walked over, even wanting to reach out and touch the remains with my own hands.
However, just as I approached the dragon skeleton, under the cold light of the headlamp, I saw the ancient dragon's bones shimmering with a metallic luster.
This made me vaguely feel that something was wrong. I got closer and took a closer look, and immediately shouted that I had been fooled!
"No! This dragon bone is made of bronze! This isn't a real dragon skeleton, it's a fake!"
My shout instantly awakened everyone from the fantasy dream in front of them. Everyone had originally thought that they had witnessed a mythical creature with their own eyes, and they were quite excited. Being told this by me, they couldn't help but feel disappointed!
"What? This dragon bone is actually made of bronze?"
"It's fake?"
"No way? The entire skeleton is made of bronze? The craftsmanship of the ancient Shu people is too superb!"
"..."
While everyone was chattering and discussing, they walked to the dragon skeleton and carefully inspected it. They saw that the dragon skeleton was indeed made of bronze, and the joints of the bones could still faintly show traces of splicing.
Xiao Liang was especially disappointed and sighed, "What a letdown, I thought we had discovered the remains of a dragon. If we could confirm that dragons really exist in the world, it would definitely be a globally shocking discovery!"
Jiang Yongguang said with a smile, "Don't be discouraged. Although this dragon skeleton is fake, it doesn't mean that there are no dragons in this world. In fact, as far as I know, many historians and archaeologists in China believe that dragons are not fictional, but really exist."
"Really?"
Xiao Liang's eyes lit up after hearing this, and she asked expectantly.
"Of course, it's true." Jiang Yongguang nodded and said, "They have never doubted the authenticity of dragons."
Just then, Uncle Mei's hoarse voice suddenly came from not far away:
"Come and take a look, shouldn't there have been a coffin here before? Where did the coffin go? Why is it gone?"
We quickly looked in the direction of the sound, and then we all fell into thought.
