Chapter 151 Dispute Over the Portrait

Chapter 2 The Next Day

The next day.

I made a special trip to Pei Shiyu's company.

When I arrived, they were already at work, but I ran into Pei Shiyu in the lobby on the first floor. Obviously, she was late.

I went up and blocked her path. Pei Shiyu stared at me intently. It seemed she had seen me a long time ago. I touched my scalp before she asked in a surprised tone, "You don't have to work? Why are you here?"

"Looking for your dad to learn about the job."

"Are you really planning to come?"

"I'm still considering it."

Pei Shiyu looked around and said, "Let's go upstairs and talk."

I'd only been here once before, almost four years ago. The company had many more employees than before. There were people waiting for the elevators outside. I followed Pei Shiyu directly into her private elevator.

Inside.

It still maintained its original style, including the painting on the wall. The person in it still looked so attractive. I glanced around the office, sat down, and then asked Pei Shiyu curiously, "Who painted this for you?"

"Want to know?" Pei Shiyu put down her bag and asked back.

"Of course."

"Shen Yi."

I quickly turned my gaze to Pei Shiyu. Was she being so honest with me because she was being frank, or because she didn't care about my feelings? Of course, I preferred the former, but Pei Shiyu's tone didn't seem to be the case. It sounded a little like she was doing it on purpose.

"I don't understand art. I've disappointed you."

"It doesn't matter. I only like giving coal in snowy weather, not gilding the lily," Pei Shiyu replied indifferently.

"I wouldn't be so vulgar as to give someone the same gift either," I replied in the same tone.

"You're the one who started the argument. I was asking you very kindly." I thought for a moment and added.

"I'm also telling the truth."

"I can hear that. So truthful that you don't need to care about my feelings."

"What's the point of caring about things that are in the past?"

"Since it's in the past, why do you still hang it up so conspicuously?" Today, I was a little confrontational.

Pei Shiyu suddenly walked to the portrait, moving from side to side, admiring it before asking me, "Isn't it pretty?"

"It is."

"Then why take it down?"

"If you like it, I'll find a painter to repaint one."

"It's a pity to throw it away. Let's just hang it up," Pei Shiyu decided for herself.

"Hanging it up is fine, but if anyone asks who painted it for you in the future, say it was me."

Pei Shiyu suddenly laughed and said, "Is it that exaggerated?"

"If you don't care about my feelings, it means you don't have deep feelings for me; I care because I love you very much."

"I'm hanging it up because that relationship is already in the past, so there's no need to think so much. I only like myself in the painting and the quality of the painting. As for your feelings, I don't think they matter at all."

Today, our conversation was like a tongue twister. We both insisted on our own opinions, with no intention of backing down.

"Is your dad in the office?" I started to ask about business.

"Why don't you tell me what's going on first?"

"Your dad told me last night that we should get our two families together to discuss the wedding."

"How come I don't know about this?"

"It was said before you left the room yesterday. I went to my mom's house last night, and it's already been decided. It will be next Sunday, when Lao Wang is free."

"Who are you dating?" Pei Shiyu suddenly asked angrily.

"Your dad brought it up. I'm just doing what he said. What's there to be angry about?"

"You're going with my dad?"

"So you don't agree with your dad's opinion?" I asked, staring into her eyes.

"Is this a question of agreeing or disagreeing?"

"I'm respecting your dad's opinion, and then I discussed it with my family. I told you after it was confirmed. That order is correct, right?"

"I can't be bothered to argue with you. Go find him. Anyway, I won't attend."

"I don't want to argue with you either. Your dad has good intentions, and I'm just being cautious. Lao Wang is very busy every day. Since he's good friends with your dad, he will definitely show up. Both sides have decided. I'll pass the word one by one. I don't think I've done anything wrong."

"Then I'll tell you where you're wrong. First, you should have mentioned it to me when you left last night. That's respect. Second, I'm the person involved. The first person you should discuss it with should be me, not wait until you've decided everything before telling me."

"Pei Shiyu, although your logic is very strong, there's no need to distinguish between primary and secondary so clearly. Besides, I thought your dad would tell you last night. If you even care about this, it means you don't have me in your heart at all."

Ever since the last quarrel, or since Shen Yi appeared, I've always felt that Pei Shiyu's attitude has changed a lot. She wasn't like this before, and she wouldn't argue with me over such trivial matters.

I suddenly felt very angry too. After saying that, I walked out of the office and slammed the door shut. I was wondering whether to go see Pei Xianglong again when Lin Hai called...

"What is it?" I answered the phone and asked him in a not-so-good tone.

"Are you free now?"

"Just say what it is."

"Do I have to have something to look for you?" Lin Hai asked patiently.

"I'm very busy now. Get to the point."

"If you're free tomorrow, let's have a meal together..."

I interrupted him and said, "I'm not free. If there's anything important, you can just say it on the phone."

"The nursing home called just now. Your grandfather's health is probably failing. If you have time, go and help me find out."

I was very reluctant to do this. Although he was good to Lin Yang when he was alive, Lin Yang is gone now, and I am also a descendant of the Lin family...

That's what I thought, but I still said in a stiff tone, "Are you that busy? Isn't this something you've always been taking care of?"

"Lin Yang's mother is still in the hospital. I can't spare the time. If you're willing to go, then go. If you're not willing, I'll spare the time myself."

"Tell me the address." I didn't talk nonsense with Lin Hai.

"I'll send it over later. Ask in detail."

"What if his body fails and the hospital lets him come back?"

"That won't happen. You can take him directly to the hospital."

"I'll talk to you again if he's seriously ill."

After saying that, I hung up the phone directly.

When they were in the limelight, I probably wouldn't even be able to get such a chore. I smiled to myself with my phone in hand, and finally decided to go find Pei Xianglong. Before I left, I looked back at the door of Pei Shiyu's office. After I closed the door, it was still tightly closed, with no intention of coming out to take a look.

I deliberately stayed at the door for a while. Pei Shiyu didn't come out, but his four-eyed assistant ran into me, holding a file in her hand, looking at me strangely. She obviously hadn't forgotten about me. The situation was completely different from that time. I had no choice but to give her a smile, just to feel sorry for that quarrel four years ago.
