Li Rui Meets the Parents

I immediately followed them. The first day on the job was just about scoping things out. Besides, it was about time to get off work anyway. So, I might as well join them for dinner.

I had barely stepped inside when Wang Rui, without even turning her head, said, "Go get Mom to eat with us."

"What about your real dad?"

"He'll be here later too."

Looking at the two of them, I added, "So, you're meeting the parents already?"

"Yeah, hurry up and go get her."

I didn't turn around immediately, my gaze lingering on them. Li Rui had a beaming smile. Calling him rough-looking last time was a bit of an exaggeration. His square face looked quite masculine. After an afternoon of getting to know him, he seemed like a very reliable man, perhaps just right to keep Wang Rui in check.

I heard Old Wang's voice as soon as I reached the hallway. He was saying to my mom, "I don't know if he's reliable or not?"

"Here we are, don't be so loud."

"That's right, the door's open. It would be embarrassing if they heard," I said in a low voice.

Old Wang was very polite when he saw me, immediately greeting me, "Lin Che's here too?"

The second floor had private rooms, wasn't today the perfect day for that? I guessed my mom probably didn't know either.

As soon as we reached the door, I saw Li Rui stand up with a sense of occasion and call out, "Auntie, Uncle."

Old Wang glanced at him expressionlessly and walked straight inside. I immediately added, "And older brother, you have to call me that from now on."

"Lin Che is right," Old Wang said loudly, taking my side.

After sitting down, I saw Old Wang sizing up Li Rui, who looked a little nervous. Then, he asked seriously, "What do you do? Where do you work?"

Li Rui, as if prepared, took out a business card from his pocket and handed it over, saying, "I've been with this company since I graduated from college and have been working here ever since."

Old Wang looked at it very carefully, his expression particularly amusing, probably because of his presbyopia. I said, "Uncle Wang, don't bother looking. I'll just tell you, he's a sales manager at a 4S store, a top-notch salesman. I even bought a new car from him today."

"What kind of car?"

"A Porsche."

I couldn't tell if Old Wang liked Li Rui or not. I just saw him immediately change the subject and ask me directly, "Lin Che, have you ordered yet?"

"Have you ordered? If not, I'll go order," I asked Wang Rui.

"Go down and order, order a few more dishes," my mom interjected.

Downstairs, I saw Pei Shi Yu standing at the cashier, talking about something. I immediately went over to find out what was going on...

The employee there was explaining, "Someone just added this dish for you."

"Who?"

"A man, and the bill has already been paid."

I then spoke up, "It was me, today's on me."

"Reason?"

"From now on, I'll give you a 20% discount every time you eat here."

"I don't need the money!"

Pei Shi Yu said she didn't need the money, but she didn't refuse my paying for her meal. She just turned around coldly and walked back to her seat. This woman was really a bit baffling. I remembered that she was fine the last time we went to the mall, but she suddenly turned hostile, and it was impossible to figure out what I had done wrong.

I quickly turned around and ordered seven or eight dishes with swift movements, then returned to the second floor.

"Dad, are you satisfied?" I heard Wang Rui asking as I went in.

Old Wang didn't express his opinion, which immediately caused the other party to become dissatisfied. She brought up what he had said before, chasing after him and saying, "Didn't you say last time that you could accept him even if he was missing a leg? Now that I've brought him here, you're acting in a way that's hard to understand."

"Where did you meet him?"

I immediately understood what Old Wang was concerned about. Last time, Wang Rui said that she met him at a bar, and I guessed that he had been bothered by this issue all along, so he had seemed very reluctant since he came in.

"We were introduced by a friend," Li Rui answered.

"Not a bar?"

"Oh, after a friend introduced us, I invited Wang Rui to go to a bar to have fun. That kind of setting wouldn't be awkward," Li Rui explained, and Old Wang's expression finally changed slightly.

After explaining the situation, the atmosphere that day was fairly harmonious. Li Rui's personality was originally the type that elders liked, especially my mom.

In the middle of the meal, I deliberately went downstairs. Pei Shi Yu and her family had already finished eating. I went straight over, and Pei Xianglong asked me in surprise, "Why are you still here?"

I didn't know if I had been infected by Li Rui, but I naturally smiled and said, "I work here. Do you like the food today?"

"You're a chef?"

I saw the corners of Pei Shi Yu's mouth turn up slightly. Was her reaction because she didn't think I looked like a chef, or did Pei Xianglong's words make her laugh?

"Do you think I'm qualified for such a sacred profession?" I replied.

"Then whether it suits your taste or not is not your credit."

Hearing this answer, I knew that it suited his taste, because he used the word "credit."

"Do you deliver food here?"

"What do you mean?" I didn't know his intention, so I confirmed.

"I still have to recuperate at home for a week. No one cooks. If you can deliver, I'll order every day and you can deliver it to me."

I didn't know yet if this was part of the restaurant's marketing model, but I was happy to take on this task. No matter what the reason, I felt a sense of positive energy in my heart.

"I can deliver. Tell me what dishes you like to eat and I'll put them together for you."

"The fish soup here is good. I want a serving every day at noon."

"Do you want it delivered at night too?"

"What? Can't you?"

I was a little worried about this. After all, I came here to work. If I delivered one meal at noon, I could sneak out. But if I delivered two meals every day, this job wouldn't be easy.

"If you can't, then just answer decisively."

"Uncle, if you deliver it, I can see you every day," Xiao Long suddenly said, looking at me very innocently.

While I was still hesitating, Pei Xianglong asked, "Xiao Long, how do you know each other?"

"Uncle took me out to play before."

"He's a bad guy, don't go out with him again in the future."

"Then why are you still letting Uncle deliver food?"

Xiao Long's thinking was very clear. After he finished speaking, he looked at me expectantly.

"Okay, I'll deliver it to you every day."

"Okay, it has to be delivered before 11:30 at noon and 5:30 for dinner, remember that."

The time was well-chosen, it was also the busiest time for the restaurant. Since I promised, I'll try sending it for a few days first, and refuse if it really doesn't work out.

Pei Xianglong squeezed out another sentence like toothpaste, "Send two servings at noon, to eat with Xiao Long, and three servings at night."

"Understood."

Then Pei Xianglong said to his daughter, "The meal problem is solved, don't go abroad. What will happen to the company if you leave? How could you think of leaving an old man like me behind?"

"I've already said it, I'm leaving next month."

"Pei Shi Yu, I'm warning you, you're not allowed to go. I agree to you going abroad for a trip."

Watching them start discussing family matters, I touched Xiao Long's face and then left.
