Da Si Ma Kelly
Chapter 42 Splitting Up
A few days later, construction officially began.
While I was still cutting the ribbon, I saw Lin Yang rush in, walking straight up to me. The usually refined Lin Yang was completely changed today. He came over and punched me in the face. I immediately fought back and pinned him to the ground. I was a little confused. He had just told me a few days ago that we shouldn't interfere with the affairs of adults. So, what was this performance all about today?
"Are you crazy?" I roared angrily.
Lin Yang didn't hide anything, telling me directly, "My dad said you're the one causing trouble behind the scenes. Your goal in getting close to Shi Yu is to bring down my family."
"You overestimate yourself, I told you I didn't want to get involved with you. Didn't you remember what I said last time?"
"I won't believe you anymore. Even my grandfather said you're outrageous, not knowing how to repay kindness and even targeting your family. We have no business to do now, and it's all your fault."
Lin Yang took advantage of my inattention and broke free from my grip, starting to fight again. With his strength, he was no match for me. When he got me angry enough, it was impossible not to fight back.
I pinned him to the ground again, kicking him a few times. If I really wanted to fight him, I wouldn't even give him a chance to retaliate.
I only stopped when President Li pulled us apart, coldly watching Lin Yang on the ground. If I hadn't held back, he might have been crippled by now.
Lin Yang's nature was good, but the ideas Lin Hai had instilled in him had completely blurred his understanding of the situation.
President Li pushed him directly out of the construction site. It was quite embarrassing to have a family feud play out in front of outsiders. Besides, I was dealing with Lin Hai, not him. His impulsive act today, like he had taken the wrong medicine, also came at a price, at least physically.
As I turned around, I noticed Pei Shi Yu calmly observing the whole process, her gaze still fixed on the departing Lin Yang.
I mimicked her usual expression, saying coldly, "Happy now?"
She didn't answer. Instead, Lao Liang came over to smooth things over, looking at Pei Shi Yu and saying, "Alright, the ceremony is over. Let's go eat."
President Li also returned to my side, instructing me, "Lin Che, go to the hotel first and order the dishes. We'll be there soon."
…
The cold dishes had just been served when President Li led seven or eight people in. Basically everyone who was at the ribbon-cutting ceremony today had arrived.
Lao Liang deliberately sat next to me, looking at me and saying, "Lin Che, you've got quite the temper, huh? I heard he's your younger brother?"
In front of so many people, it wasn't appropriate to answer yes or no, so I just lowered my head, keeping my hands on the table and remaining silent. Fortunately, Lin Yang didn't come, or this meal would have been impossible to eat.
"Lin Che, come pour the wine," President Li said, tactfully helping me out of the situation.
But Lao Liang didn't seem willing to let the matter drop. I had already stood up, and he continued to talk to me about what had just happened, "I like your personality, you're energetic, like a man. If Lao Li doesn't want you, come work for me. I'll take you wherever I go."
I understood Lao Liang's idea, which was the same as President Li's, that I could take the fall for them when there was trouble. In this kind of situation, I definitely had to give him face and leave myself an out.
I said jokingly, "Sure, President Liang, as long as you name a salary, I'll go with you in a heartbeat."
"That won't do. There are rules in this business. You can only come over after Lao Li doesn't want you anymore."
I looked up at President Li, who was very calm, as if he was sure I wouldn't leave him.
I poured the wine and then started toasting everyone in turn. When it was Pei Shi Yu's turn, I hesitated. Something had just happened last night, and if I asked her to drink now, I'd probably be asking for a scolding. So, as I passed her, I said in a concerned tone, "Forget about the ladies, or she'll go crazy again like last night."
The person sitting next to Pei Shi Yu, who seemed to have a good relationship with her, said in a disruptive manner, "You can't skip her. President Pei has a good alcohol tolerance. It's okay for her to have a glass at noon."
These past few days, I had just been following President Li around and drinking. And every time, I had to choose between letting her drink or not. She wasn't like the women in nightclubs who would just raise their glasses and drink. Maybe she was even more awkward than us, stuck in a group of men, with all sorts of unavoidable reasons.
I asked her softly for her opinion, "Can you drink?"
"No!" She replied without even raising her head, with emotion in her voice, but it was so soft that no one else could hear it. I could only understand because I saw her lips move.
This attitude put me in a dilemma, so I had to say directly, "Forget it, she said she doesn't want to drink."
This time I was very decisive, skipping her directly. I cautiously glanced at President Li, who secretly gave me a thumbs up, his expression showing that he agreed with my decision.
The topics at the table were still mainly about work. Unlike last time, today they were talking about safety issues. Gradually, I could also hear that the title President Li had given me was empty. Basically, it was confirmed that I would be following him around in the future, like a follower.
As the meal was coming to an end, Pei Shi Yu received a call from her father. I watched her and asked softly, "Dad, what's wrong?"
I didn't know what the other person said, but I saw her panic, nervously grabbing her bag and rushing out without even saying goodbye…
Perhaps President Li understood her better. He immediately got up from his seat and chased after her. I walked curiously to the door and heard President Li stop her, asking, "Shi Yu, what happened?"
"Xiao Long is gone," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
"Don't panic. Did he leave from home, or did he get lost?"
"I said a few words to him, and he cried and said he wanted to find his mother. He took advantage of my dad going to the bathroom and ran out on his own."
The usually calm her was now completely flustered. After saying that, she walked out again. It was no wonder, as the only root left in the family, anyone would be anxious if they couldn't find him.
"Shi Yu, wait a minute. Where are you going to look now? I'll get Lin Che to help you find him."
As President Li spoke, he turned around and shouted loudly at me, "Lin Che, come out quickly."
I had already witnessed their conversation, so I took a big step and appeared in front of him. President Li looked at me angrily and said casually, "Since you heard it, why aren't you acting quickly?"
"I don't want to get involved in her family's affairs. It's a thankless task."
"This isn't the time to worry about past issues. You and Shi Yu look together, and I'll check the surveillance…"
I interrupted impatiently, saying, "This family has too many problems."
"Don't kick them when they're down. Their family's situation is quite pitiful."
Suddenly, the rapid sound of high heels echoed on the tiles of the lobby. While I was talking to President Li, I had completely forgotten about Pei Shi Yu waiting at the door. Without guessing, I could tell from the sound of her footsteps that she was angry. When I looked at her, I saw her standing tall in her high heels, her slender figure showing only her back.
"Look at what you're saying… Hurry, let's split up."
"Then go inside and say hello, I'll catch up with her first."
"Go ahead, I'll take care of things here," President Li replied anxiously.
I jogged to catch up with Pei Shi Yu. Just as I was about to ask her something, she issued an order to leave in a cold tone, without even turning her head, "I don't need you. Don't follow me."
I didn't stop, following behind her and explaining with a forced reason, "I just remembered your dad's attitude last night. I didn't say anything wrong, it really is a thankless task."
"That's why I told you not to follow me. My family's affairs are none of your business."
From behind, I looked at her back. Her straight posture inherently revealed a sense of arrogance.
She pressed the remote control when she was about twenty meters away from the car, showing how anxious she was. I quickened my pace and arrived at the car before her, directly opening the door and sitting in the passenger seat.
Although I had seen this child once, I had completely forgotten what he looked like. How would I find him? Where would I start? I had no clue. My head was still a little muddled from the alcohol.
After Pei Shi Yu got in, she started the car and sped off. I subconsciously fastened my seat belt and grabbed the handle tightly. The car seemed to be new, with the smell of a new car.
She was skilled at controlling the car, weaving in and out of traffic on the road. At the right moment, I said, "Slow down. Safety is the fastest speed. Where are you going to look now?"
She didn't answer me, keeping her lips tightly shut, focusing intently on the road ahead. When she drove to the road leading to her house, I realized she was heading home. The speed of the car immediately slowed down, and her eyes began to pay attention to the surrounding movements.
I understood that Pei Shi Yu had entered search mode. She stopped the car at a nearby park. Treating me like a decoration, she didn't even say a word, stopping the car and getting out.
