Chapter 204 A Little Disappointing

I chuckled, picturing Pei Xianglong's angry face. I felt a little mischievous. Just as I was gloating upstairs, a loud crash came from downstairs. I quickly got up and rushed down.

At the top of the stairs, I saw Pei Shiyu sprawled on the floor, looking disheveled...

Instinctively, I laughed and asked, "How did you fall?"

Pei Shiyu immediately looked at me, her expression a little incredulous at my attitude. I quickly composed myself and said, "I'm sorry, laughing wasn't very kind, but you just looked so… funny."

"Help me up."

As I helped her up, I asked again, "Was the floor too slippery? Are you hurt?"

"I don't think so."

Pei Shiyu got up and stretched. It looked like she was fine, except her palm was a little red. I pulled her aside, and saw a bucket on the floor, with some water spilled around it...

"My upstairs mission is complete. You rest for a bit, I'll take over here."

"You wiped the other room clean too?"

"Yup, begging for praise." I looked at her playfully.

"From now on, you're in charge of cleaning the house."

"I'll hurry and hire two maids."

"Why two?" Pei Shiyu asked, puzzled.

"One for your dad. I called him earlier and told him we're living here starting today."

"Is he moving in with us?"

"He said he likes living over there."

"He's in good health now, so it's no problem for him to live alone. If he feels lonely, he'll naturally come over."

"Your dad needs your care."

"Aren't you taking good care of him?" Pei Shiyu replied with a smile.

Ever since I stepped into this house, I'd felt a sense of belonging. It was a warm feeling, and my mood was especially cheerful, especially now, with Pei Shiyu sitting on the sofa, looking at me with a scrutinizing expression, giving off a strong feeling of home.

As I mopped the floor, I casually asked, "Pei Shiyu, how about we get our marriage license this weekend?"

"Is there such a rush… Is that your proposal?"

"I'm just testing the waters. If you agree, I'll make arrangements." I gave her a warm smile.

"We'll talk about it when we have time. This weekend we're going to see your dad, and there are a lot of transfer procedures to take care of."

"Leave those things to you. My department will take care of the rest, so you don't have to spend any energy on it."

"Once the design drawings are out, construction will start. And we also have to handle your overseas travel procedures. I originally wanted to postpone it, but I figured the sooner you leave, the sooner you can come back. If you really go, don't think about coming back..."

Before she could finish, I interjected, "Wait, does that mean I'm not allowed to come back for a few years?"

"Yeah. I'll come visit you when I have time. Since you're going, you have to persevere and work harder than others."

"I know, but if I leave, won't you be even busier? Where will you find the time to visit me?"

"I always have to go out a few times a year."

"I bet I won't be able to come back for at least five years, right?" I guessed.

"At least."

"So we won't be able to see each other. In that case, considering our ages, we definitely have to have a wedding before I go abroad."

"Why 'definitely'? We can have one later too."

"I want to go abroad as your husband. My mood will be different when I'm overseas. I'll feel like I have an extra sense of responsibility."

After I said that, Pei Shiyu's lips moved. She looked at me for a moment before replying, "Let's get a marriage license first then."

"Okay, that'll save us some trouble."

Pei Shiyu checked the time and said anxiously, "Let's leave it at that for now. We can finish cleaning after work. I have to get back to the company, a client is coming at two this afternoon, I need to go back and prepare."

"Do you have a key? Give me one, or I won't be able to get in if we don't leave work together."

"I do, but I don't know where it is. I don't have time to look for it now. We'll leave work together today. If I need to go out, I'll give you the key."

I got back to the company at one o'clock. I went into the office and made a cup of green tea. After taking a few sips, I saw Liu Nan walk in and put a piece of white paper in front of me. It was a set of rules and regulations he had drafted. I didn't read it, I just stared at him, trying to find the answer on his face...

Liu Nan awkwardly explained, "The chairman instructed me to do this, so..."

"So you were deliberately laughing so unrestrainedly this morning? Was that the chairman's intention too?" I asked curiously.

"No, it's just that after President Pei passed away, this atmosphere gradually formed. The previous vice president was transferred away by the chairman."

"Transferred?" I asked in a puzzled tone.

"I think he resigned."

I crumpled the paper he brought into a ball and said, "It's not needed. From now on, it's your responsibility. I'm leaving the management to you."

I suddenly changed my attitude, thinking that a different approach might be more effective, especially since I had already entrusted the management to Liu Nan.

"Is there anything else?" I asked, looking at him.

"Is tomorrow's meeting still on?"

"No, it's not. I believe you can lead them well."

"I'll do my best."

"Okay."

"If there's nothing else, I'll go back to work then."

"Go ahead."

Liu Nan took two steps towards the door, then suddenly stopped and said, "President Lin, I'm happy to work with you, very happy."

"Why?" I asked curiously.

"It's just that you're easygoing."

I gestured for him to leave. I had just arrived at the company and didn't have much experience. I couldn't adopt an authoritative attitude yet. I still needed Liu Nan's guidance and advice in many areas.

I was relatively free all afternoon. Pei Xianglong was personally handling things outside, while I was stationed at the company. I directly reviewed a few smaller documents, but left the projects I didn't understand for Pei Xianglong to handle when he returned.

Around three o'clock, I got up and brought the tea set from the office next door. I imitated Pei Xianglong's movements and started drinking tea. This was high-quality tea, and it smelled especially fragrant. I, who had always been used to drinking green tea, was slowly starting to like this taste.

When Pei Shiyu came in, she saw this comfortable scene and was stunned for a moment before asking, "You have nothing to do?"

"I can't help it, my abilities are limited. I can't work solo, or I would have charged to the front lines for your dad." I replied reasonably.

Pei Shiyu didn't say anything else. Seeing this, I asked, "Sit down and have a cup. It smells pretty good."

"I'm not that free, I'm leaving soon."

"You're going out now? Does that mean we can't leave work together tonight?"

"Yeah, I'll give you the house key. Have dinner by yourself."

"Will you be home late?"

"I won't be later than ten. If I'm home late, go to sleep first, don't wait for me."

"It's a little disappointing, since today is the first day we moved in."

"The client is still waiting for me."

Pei Shiyu finished speaking and left directly. I watched her back, feeling like I had nowhere to exert my strength.
